travel anxiety

i haven't packed. i haven't done any laundry. i don't have travel-sized containers of anything, nor has my ambien arrived yet. i don't know where my brit phone has gone, or the charger for that matter. i will probably forget the official copies of several contracts that i need to get signed, as well as all of the itineraries, confirmations, and such that have been sent to me. i'll also most likely forget to charge my ipod and forget to pack pajamas yet remember to take along 9 nine pairs of impractical shoes. even more worringly, what if my plane blows up? i need a tranquilizer, and i don't even leave until tomorrow night.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

may i prescribe some van morrison?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks, dr.gygax!.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

is it the album i'm thinking of?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

or another...? hrmmmm...

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm going to Spain for a few days in a month but i currently do not know where my passport is (cue Beyonce)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

you've just reminded me that I need to renew my passport.

hstencil, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The only things I worry about having with me: global access cellphone, credit card, passport. Everything else is details & can be obtained with above. ;-) (Then again, I'm the type of traveler who goes to Europe for 2 weeks with 1 carry on bag, I like feeling un-weighted-down when I'm away.)

lyra (lyra), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

is it the album i'm thinking of?

but of course!

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't worry too much about charging the iPod, if it makes you feel any better. Hardly a travel essential.

andy, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hardly a travel essential.

i dunno, personal music on a flight's pretty high on the list for me

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i have to have both the ipod (for stuff that i don't have in any other format) and my discman, which is like a security blanket especially when playing astral weeks or galaxie 500's first album. i'm a nutjob. whatever.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I am taking my son ( nearly 2 ) on a short domestic flight next week, his first time on a plane. I am already thinking I may need to hire a small entourage to help me lug all the 'essentials' on board!

donna (donna), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Packing is totally overrated! I don't think I've used a travel size of anything in my life! I just toss all of my clothes that I'm likely to wear in a big bag and sit on it till it closes. OK, coming back from NYC, my luggage was out of control. But I knew I had HSA to carry it at the other end.

Lauren, when do you get here? Sheesh, I just saw you on the other side of the world last week!

the river fleet, Thursday, 5 February 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm arriving tomorrow morning, probably with too much luggage.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

OK breath! Now write a list & go from there, easy as!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

charger has been located... it's in dalston. handy.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

:-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

beautiful flight, courtesy of xanax & ambien. i feel a bit funny now, though.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

bound to happen. This is the companion thread to the CD promo thread on ILX, like it's a bit of a pain to travel, but it's fucking awesome to travel too.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo, yay lauren!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha!

i found my passport, it was exactly where i thought it was but for some reason i didn't see it when i looked before. so now all i have to worry about is Easyjet being crap.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

easyjet was fine when i flew them...

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 12 February 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

getting drunk & packing rules. you end up with some creative wardrobe choices. have a rad trip, teeny!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 12 February 2004 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i've been on hold for like a half hour with expedia.co.uk. i booked a ticket back to the states and they charged me twice and sent me two sets of tickets. now they'll have to 'investigate' what went wrong before giving me a refund. bastards.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 February 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

when are you going?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

april bank holiday.

it's for a wedding, but hopefully with some fun mixed in.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 February 2004 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Sexxy fun?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 12 February 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

*gasps*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 February 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

well, the boy is coming over for the long weekend, but once he leaves it will be good, clean fun i'm sure.

unless you're referring to the fact that the wedding reception is being held in a strip club, and then you're right. it'll be sexxy AND dirrrty.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 February 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

what is it with you and strip clubs?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

you ain't seen nothing yet Steve, you just wait til you meet D

chris (chris), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Teeny wins the prize for Most Amusing Drunk Speller. I laugh like all hell whenever it happens.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

it was a joke! it's a catholic wedding! there will be no strip clubs.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, they're the worst kind!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
arrgh. i still hate flying.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 11:34 (twenty years ago)

That's because it is UNNATURAL!!! for human beings to fly.

Failure Isn't Falling, It's Staying Down (kate), Thursday, 16 March 2006 11:36 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, that's probably not helping, is it? ;-)

Failure Isn't Falling, It's Staying Down (kate), Thursday, 16 March 2006 11:36 (twenty years ago)

ha, no. not really!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 11:37 (twenty years ago)

in the same way that goldfish shouldn't drive?

THIEF!!

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 16 March 2006 11:48 (twenty years ago)

I have a 7 hour flight to the US next week, but to be honest I'm quite looking forward to relaxing on the plane. it's the actual airport part that i hate, especially us customs officers.

and the worry that my taxi to the airport isn't going to arrive on time

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 16 March 2006 11:52 (twenty years ago)

i love planes, and airports, and flying, and all the schtick that goes with it. although i think it is wrong to fly all over the place. i am a TERRIBLE PERSON.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:01 (twenty years ago)

it's like an adventure in itself just trying to get somewhere really.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:07 (twenty years ago)

In some psychology mag I read that people don't relax when going on a trip, they actually are more nervous about the whole thing. Maybe we should not travel, just stay home?

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:43 (twenty years ago)

makes sense, but not an option in this case.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:44 (twenty years ago)

It'll all pay off in the end!

youn, Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:52 (twenty years ago)

I hate flying, it's mainly the airports that bother me, and the planning. I don't think I've been entirely relaxed on a foreign holiday in my adult life, but there have been other benefits.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:54 (twenty years ago)

when i saw this thread in new answers, i was sure it was one of mine.

s/c johnson wax (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:54 (twenty years ago)

that's bcz you started one with the same title.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:55 (twenty years ago)

For the sake of the world's poor, we must keep the wealthy at home

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:56 (twenty years ago)

flying rules. my travel anxiety mostly has to do with where to go, what the weather will be like/what to wear, and how to carry stuff. also, how to speak.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 16 March 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

i don't need to travel to be anxious about any of this stuff, though, do i?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 16 March 2006 14:08 (twenty years ago)
