what 'real-life' friendships are there in IL* ie people that see each other, go to the pub, know each other etc here? who knos who, in other words?
eg: i live two streets away from ed and see gareth every so often when i am down south. i know no one else (depending on what 'to know' is)

Brian Macdonald -- friend of mine since 1992 when we met at UC Irvine in Southern California; housemates from 1997 until earlier this year when he moved to Seattle
Nicole -- been in touch with each other since 1997, hung around in visits three separate times, hurrah!
Tom Ewing, Pete, Tim Hopkins, Sarah, Carsmile Steve, DG, Emma, Lixi and others -- folks I've met up with whenever I've visited the UK
Ally, Kris, Otis, Sterling -- had the chance to meet them all once directly in various locations
Fred, Dan Perry, Mike Daddino -- like many of the above, long-time net friends, but never had the chance to meet them yet face to face
...and so forth. I have to say I like the sound of the Aussie/NZ contingent as a whole and have threatened a visit there sometime next year or possibly soon after that.

Actually I really like the influx of new posters we've had lately - yay for Helen F Toraneko and the entire population of Dunedin.

I'm sure I've probably seen other people about whilst out and about, hitting the town and so forth, just without realising it. In fact I'm sure I have because sometimes people talk about places I've been.
Just think, that stranger standing next to you at the bar could be me...

Then I have met most of the London and Oxford bunch, but I missed Ned when he came over due to skintness.

I would very much love to come visit. Right now next June I am planning on going to Europe for a month -- Spain, Italy, southern France -- but should that fall through (I'm planning on going with a couple of other people and we're still working out the details), then I'm off to Australia and NZ. I know it'll be winter in your neck of the woods then, but it's the best time for me to make a jaunt, at the least. Anyway, if next summer doesn't happen, then either December next year or summer 2003 will be my visit time to the Antipodes. Hopefully Dunedin will still be cool. ;-)
