the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah, the seller is Channelfly AKA Barfly.

It's an official charidee bid, innit?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

If I had the cash and I lived in the UK, I would totally bid on this.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

So how big is this venue? (thread derail: Where's the smallest place you've seen the Cure? I saw the 2000 promo show in Chicago...was it at the Vic? about 1500 capacity I think.)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

If I had the cash and lived in the UK, I'd just buy the venue and invite them over any ol' time. With the incentive of even more cash.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

oh ok so abt 300 ppl then if there are 150 passport winners?

teeny (teeny), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Where's the smallest place you've seen the Cure?

Irvine Meadows with 20,000 or so of my closest friends.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw them at the Brussels promo show in 2000 (Ancienne Belgique). That must also have been 1500-2000 capacity venue. I managed to sneak my way to the front row very easily. Pretty unbelievable..

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i was at the barfly last night, 300 is going to be a squeeze, it's tiny...

(NEC in birmingham is the only time i've seen the cure, wish tour end of 92)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 6 February 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Said it before, say it again -- I always thought it was pronounced 'barf-ly' for a long time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

wait, i thought the dog on Sesame Street was named "Barf-ly"...

Kingfish Funyun (Kingfish), Friday, 6 February 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

1200, Orpheum theater in Boston (8th row). FOR FREE.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 6 February 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah yeah yeah. Punk.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I have seen them twice - in 1991 ish at Wembley Arena, supported by Ride, Carter, Jesus Jones and, um, New Model Army. About 10,000 capacity?

And I saw them at an outdoor festival in July 2002 a few miles from Geneva in Switzerland. They played lots of gothy b-sides, which was nice. I got terrible asthma, couldn't do anything about it and was terrified that at some point I'd need to be carried, blue-faced, to the first aid tent. Scary. Capacity about 35,000, probably about half of whom were watching the band.

it's not impossible that i may have a recording of this off the radio, princes trust gig wasn't it?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 6 February 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

if i had the cash id record the new album!

these bar gigs must be something else. the video play starts off with a bit from one of the bar gigs( from the early wish days i think) i like how the camera follows the band in to the small bar for warm-up
