I know many of them...

(and god bless 'em)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I would hate it...but I'm not allowed to.

So - dud, sorry.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding... !!! Point made in one post!

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah yeah i know

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the iron knee is firmly in my gonads

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't hate it per se, but I don't celebrate it.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Ditto. I really think flowers are a waste of money for starters. Having said that, on Saturday me and the boy are going to have a pinic. But thats as much cos we were going to have one anyway last weekend but it got too hot. So its an excuse as much as anything.

I dont need a "day" to tell him I wub him tho.

*sounds of puking erupt round the board*

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

My Girl (who, from now on I will refer to in capitals) forbids me to give her anything on Valentines. I kinda I agree with her sentiment. But best of all I never feel like I didn't do enough. Killa!

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I always thought Valentine's Day wasn't really for couples, but was about sending anonymous cards through the post. Then stalking took off and diluted the whole concept.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be doing something special, this valentine's day.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

well, pin a rose on your nose.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Stalking-wise?;)(to RJR)

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

That sounds kind of ominous, RJG. Are you planning some kind of mass murder?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

you'll see.

; )

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, no, not really.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

But kind of?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

*runs, looking over shoulder*

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be doing someone special.

< /beavis>

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'll try to enjoy myself, in friendly company and with alcohol and cigarettes, but I am learning that there is value to improvisation so who the fuck knows?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't hate it, but I am kind of indifferent to it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:24 (twenty-two years ago)

enjoy myself, in friendly company and with alcohol and cigarettes
Does this translate to mastrubation in a bar.
*apologies in advance RJR. I'm a bit drunk*

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Nicole, you're so gen X.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Holidays = big push for flower & card peddlers.
That is sad.
Not a lot to do with anything but the friggin' bottom line.
"Rembering" ought to carry a little dignity with it.
It could be any day of the week, month, yr.

jim wentworth (wench), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

me and my girl are gonna see some films about the break-down of eastern Europe, and car thieves.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

you old romantic enrique! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml otm w/ first post *sigh*

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Cor what is this bizarre tyranny of ladeez? If both partners aren't equally keen on annual mushiness then wot is the point? Fight the power!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

My lady is down with seeing an old BBC doc called 'Serbian Epics' on V-Day for real.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Good for her. I am working :/

(I bought Matt a book on how to play Go which I was going to give him on V-day but he found it in my rather crap hiding place of my underwear drawer.)

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

'Go'? How terrible is it that, for me, that would work as a hiding place. That said the missus does seem to have acquired an entire room for clothes, etc.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, admittedly Matt had no real need to be in my underwear drawer...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Archel, I have tried making a stand. There were strops and much hurt behaviour. This is a situation I would rather avoid. But I draw the line at cards.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Fair enough. One of my coworkers is currently spending all day in complex and heated phone negotiations with his loved one, because he wants to take her away for V-day and she fears that he's going to propose, or something. So it cuts both ways.

Go is a fiendish board game of the 'minute to learn lifetime to mater' variety btw.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I've heard Go is fascinating, actually, must get round to trying it sometime.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh fuck, it's a leap year, so according to some old bullshit 'ladies are aloud to propose'. Cue a gazillion local newspaper stories and PH34R all round.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I've done that already, more fool me :/

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

*On* Valentine's Day?

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I find Go horribly stressful actually, so my gift is more romantic and thoughtful than it might first appear.

xpost: no on Xmas Eve.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Go is alright when people aren't standing over you shouting about strategy when it's your first sodding game and OH JUST FCUK OFF **** ALRIGHT???

Ahem.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It'd totally interrupt my shit if I got proposed to during these films...

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Grrrrrr. We haven't even broached the topic yet. Yes, I know, and it's less than a week away. I don't quite know how to bring up "By the way, I freaking HATE Valentine's Day, so don't even THINK about forcing me to celebrate it or anything, but yeah, I'll be insulted if you HAVEN'T thought about it thought" which is a bit of a contradiction, I suppose but my whole life is a contradiction.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

you get propoesed to on the 29th, not on the Valentines day

x-post

chris (chris), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The proposal thing on the 29th? Sheesh, I had forgotten about that. Once every four years, I might as well use it. Cause he will never, ever ask. Except I'm quite scared of being turned down. Oh, that's really scary.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris -- cheers, that's a load off. Is that a Sunday?

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I have written 'Sarah is NOT proposing' on the 29th feb, He has already told me he'd turn me down, not cos he doesnt wanna get married, but because he wants to propose to me!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice! I'll try that.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

:-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Kidding!

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Rener and I hate Valentines Day. Well I do, and she thinks like I do or she gets it. We wuv each other very much, but the regimented & commercialised mushiness of V-Day is a bit sad, especially if going to the cinema or restaurants is a relatively unnovel experience.

one of the main things that irritates me about V-Day is that if I want to go out for a meal that night I won't be able to get into any restaurant because they'll be full of saps, and the cinema will be full of munters who like to babble little wuvvy duvvy stuff to each other all through the film. Fuckers.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it kind of touching in a tragic way - all the blokes out on the town looking very uncomfortable, their girlfriends clutching single red roses in a plastic tube. It's not the kind of thing to make a singleton envious.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

DV, not in 'Dogville' I wouldn't have thunk.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, that's who that guy, in the laundrette, was, yesterday.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that's the most horrible thing anyone has ever said to me.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I often hear long diatribes about the uselessness of valentine's day as a holiday and how we should be unafraid to show our affection on any day instead of waiting for a prescribed 'holiday' to do so.

Then she coos and bats her eyes affectionately when I produce the flowers, gifts and such.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

the most annoying thing about valentine's day for single people is when couples moan about it all day. it's like, oh for fuck's sake. get over it already. an excuse to spend a little extra effort with your s.o. surely is a good thing? don't make it sound like such a torture!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ken, bless him, is of course OTM. All we need now is Jon Williams to turn up and shout SMUG CUNTS. And serve us right too.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Maria & I got married on Valentines Day, so, um, i'm for it. it actually is a good thing cuz otherwise i would never remember when our anniversary was. christmas would have been better though. you really can't forget christmas. any holiday that can be used as an excuse to eat chocolate is a-ok with me. I never really paid much attention to it before though. i can remember some less then thrilling dinners with ex-girlfriends. but our wedding was great and perfect and public and my one and only happy valentine's day moment.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ken c. OTM. How much effort does it take to ignore Valentine's Day? People don't put up lights or trees or anything, just a few paper hearts. There aren't any carols. Just stay in, watch some shitty TV, you'll be ok. Or maybe your mom will be your valentine.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

You'll be hard-pressed to watch shitty TV without being reminded it's Valentine's Day.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

My GF and I will probably use it as an excuse to go out to dinner since we're both poor, but don't generally do a whole lot on V day. I never have, really.

webcrack (music=crack), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

We're not that big on VD, but I usually do something. Erm, this year I'm playing a gig in Chicago so I'll be gone, but I did get her some nice flowers last week at least (psssst....when they're still cheap!).

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it kind of touching in a tragic way - all the blokes out on the town looking very uncomfortable, their girlfriends clutching single red roses in a plastic tube.

that is always funny, and I know - I was once that sad bloke.

maybe couples who like V-Day could explain its appeal?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe couples who like VD could also explain its appeal?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Its also a certain ILXors birthday on this fine day of days, hem hem not saying ;)

(no not me you mentalists)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I've already watched "you've got mail" four times.

Spoony, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

And, I mean, this was all in one day. It was just the other day, too.

Spoony, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)
