Looking back to your old posts - C or D?

I've looked over my first thread from about 4 days ago and don't think I've changed much. Maybe I should have been posting a year or two ago.

The TRULY horrifying revelations come when I check out e-mails I wrote five or six years ago. Oh dear sweet Jesus. I think I could've calmed down a bit, maybe come across as a bit more thoughtful and a little less enthusiastic. Eeeyikes.

I hate looking at my old posts, since I can't write v. well.

I just searched for Yoko Ono to see various opinion and found a funny one I wrote:

(A bunch of talking about Yoko) and damn.. I never registered 'Lex' and now someone's taken it. That'll teach me.

I like it when I start reading a new thread, then get 30 or 40 posts in, then find a post from myself, then realise the thread is actually from 3 or 4 years ago and I've read it all before but have absolutely no memory of it.

Sometimes I see the title of a thread and think "oh man, I've got some opinions about that, but I don't know if I have time to talk about them at length" and then I click on it and see that it's an old thread and I've already made my opinion known, and I am satisfied.

Seriously though, most of the good work in "rock" qua rock is being done in indie, right? I think so. If you look at something like the recent Pazz & Jop critics polls, the majority of the rock music they rate highly comes from indie. Not to say that something that is critically-lauded is automatically good, but I do agree with the Pazz & Jop critics generally: for good rock music, indie is where it's at.

I used to think the music I listened to was the gayest thing about me, but then I realized that all my mastercuts dj friends are all straight, and so it seems are most of the ILM househeads. And I also realized it's wanting to fuck other men that is the gayest thing about me.

Generations don't exist. I hate Douglas Coupland. For a better representation of the truths of what a generation isn't, how about "Cheaper By the Dozen"? Or "Kiss Me in My Little Canoe"?

How about the local newspaper haaing a 14-year-old girl writing a column called "The Voice of X?" As in Generation X. This is clearly awful.

I am 18. I don't know how I feel. I've never really felt an age. I've always felt extremely deatatched from my body, I feel like I don't exist as a physical entity. I feel weird checking "female" on forms & such because I don't feel like I am a girl.

Should I just post in threads on individual records I'm into? Would focusing on music instead of music publications and over-generalized topics such as The-State-of-X make people dislike me less?

Short of quitting the board, what can I do to stop everyone from continually calling me out for what I'm guessing are hopefully just rookie mistakes naive young posters make?

I try not to. I no longer even recognise the person I was 5, 10 years ago. Like, sometimes if I see myself posting on an old thread, I get angry with the post halfway through reading it and want to shout "shut up you fucking idiot you don't know what you're talking about" before realising it's me.

(Please don't make the predictable "but we still do that!" jokes please.)

The past is like this fotting stillborn siamese twin you can never quite seem to ditch. Or maybe I've listened to Pornography by The Cure too much lately.

Actually, the reason those *really* old posts seemed like someone else was because they *were* by someone else. Forgot there was another kate posting here when I first joined. I changed user names too many times in the old days. I think this is my actual first post:

I know it was something Scottish. We had a Scottish Music Only marathon round my flat. Something about New Years belonging to the Scots, I'm still not entirely sure why, may have had more to do with the Absinthe and the Laphroiagh than the date.
