since when does communist = pink?

I know pinko is a slur and all, but most isn't red the communist colour?
Does anyone know the story of "pinko"? (not to be confused with the popular Price is Right game Plinko)

Pinko is really for socialism.

During the Russian revolution the sides where distinguished by red and white.

Red for the communists, the anti Bolsheviks were white.

Communism is red, extreme anti communism is white therefore Socialism is pink.

Not orignally but language is fluid, i'd say that a large portion of people using it now are implying homosexuality.

A large portion of people opposed to socialism/communism are also likely to see homosexuality as a negative quality.

Sort of like a 2 for 1 insult.
