Why are relatives allowed to have email accounts, again?

Seriously, does your uncle REALLY need to forward you that funny photoshop of Miss Piggy in a Janet Jackson pose, or some political screed, or a warning about not using your cell phone while pumping gas?

Also, your aunt forwarding you this "HILARIOUS!!11!" email, C/D?

Kingfish Beatbox Botox Funktion (Kingfish), Thursday, 12 February 2004 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

you and I might be cousins, I've got the same aunt.

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Thursday, 12 February 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that aunt is my mom. She's been consistently forwarding me things I saw about 5 years ago since she got an email account last year.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 12 February 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Makes me glad my mum never paid attention when I tried to teach her email....um, 5 times

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 12 February 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a picture of Miss Piggy with her boob hanging out? Gimme!!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 12 February 2004 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

just wait. you'll eventually get it.

Kingfish Beatbox Botox Funktion (Kingfish), Thursday, 12 February 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

And then you will be sad.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 February 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh... my dad sent me this the other day.

Just for kicks, go to google and type in "weapons of mass destruction"
then click "I'm feeling lucky" ....... look carefully at what comes back .....
also, click on the links you find on this page.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 12 February 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Whereas my dad has real-time conversations (in which he switches back-n-forth between English and Russian) over firewire or whatever that shit is while playing some elaborate 3d role-playing game. Meanwhile, I type letters into a little box.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 12 February 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The people that are still forwarding you 'funny' emails (ala 1998) are the ones that NEVER clean up the email... you see three feet of forwarding script jibberish, followed by the un-funny picture.

Somebody just sent me that five-year-old "Bill Gates is testing out a new blah blah and he'll give you $3000 to blah..." Ahgrgh, it's so fucking annoying.

andy, Thursday, 12 February 2004 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

MY PATERNAL GRANDPA -- GOD KNOWS I LOVE HIM, DOES NOT (OR AT LEAST ORIGINALLY DID NOT) SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE CAPS LOCK CAN BE SHUT OFF

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 12 February 2004 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Andy OTM OTM OTM OTM

Everyone in this thread OTM anyway

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 12 February 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Miccio, so OTM I pass you a martini (shaken, not stirred)! If I can't clean up the email before fwding, it goes in the trash.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 12 February 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

also, sending your uncle links to Snopes.com eventually stops him from forwarding the "YOU MUST READ THIS AT ONCE!?!11" panicky emails.

Kingfish Beatbox Botox Funktion (Kingfish), Thursday, 12 February 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My mom hates forwards, thank god.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 12 February 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

My mom does this nearly every day. It used to annoy me but now I find it kind of endearing.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 12 February 2004 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Saying love with chain letters?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 12 February 2004 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no less than three aunts and a grandmother like this. I almost feel guilty for sending people to Snopes (think of how crushing it must be for them, after being so proud that they are helping you get rid of the "teddy bear virus"), but then I get over it.

Dan I., Thursday, 12 February 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurrah for parents who have no computer and don't care!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurrah for Dad who is a java programmer and understands email as well as the net, and hurrah for Mom who only forwards occasionally, and sometimes even stuff I haven't already seen.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 12 February 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't care that my parents have email, because they can barely work out how to send one. What I *don't* want to happen is for them to find out how to use search engines.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 13 February 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
okay, now we should expand this to wonder why coworkers are allowed to have email accounts, either...
