The other day here in Ghana 3 schoolboys aged between 8-13 were arrested. One of them had stolen 6 million cedis (roughly 600 bucks) from his dad and they went on spending tour between Kumasi and Accra, our two main cities, buying Valentines merchandise...for themselves. Not girls or female relatives or anything. Themselves. I mean, WTF? They were buying themselves Valentine-themed t-shirts and shit and I ended up arguing with a co-worker, saying that the idea of Valentine's Day here is really wacked out - how else could these kids act like such morons?

I dislike Val's Day in general but this one was a beaut - I went to a shitty party last night and ate something that messed me up bad for the whole day. Next year I'm definitely staying in bed.

I went to a bar to meet some online-type friends, and the one guy I knew from real life (actually he's a real pal) didn't show up. Tried hard to avoid the traditional Valentines Day and all the pressure to be romantic that comes along with it, wound up feeling pressured and unhappy anyway. New Museum show sucked, dim sum was admittedly good, desert place we wanted to go was booked, cafe we went to instead that is normally nice was empty save one very old couple and had a bad roof leak.
