How can one not look like an idiot American in Europe?

Don't walk around in a t-shirt that says: I USED UP ALL MY SICK TIME SO I CALLED IN DEAD.

So you want to know how to look like an idiot European?

Certian tennis shoes are very cool. Aren't Pumas cool?

CindyCowell, Friday, 13 February 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha! No, I just wonder how Europeans can spot dumb Americans so easily.

Marge: Am I cool, kids?
Bart+Lisa: No.
Marge: Good. I'm glad. And that's what makes me cool, not caring, right?
Bart+Lisa: No.
Marge: Well, how the hell do you be cool? I feel like we've tried everything here.
Homer: Wait, Marge. Maybe if you're truly cool, you don't need to be told you're cool.
Bart: Well, sure you do.
Lisa: How else would you know?

So what makes Americans stand out in Europe, and why is what makes them stand out so disdainful? (Other than the fact that they're American, of course.) But I'm talking about those superficial little things that make someone go, "American!" For example, this thread:
What do you hate the most about America?

FritterStool, Friday, 13 February 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

dress-wise, if you want to pass for a European make sure your pants aren't loose, that your shirt's tucked in and wear a scarf at all times.

it's more of the stereotypically suburban americans that europeans seem to disdain--but then again, so do city folks....and it's probably for similar reasons, too.

Wear an American-flag T-shirt and a "Re-Elect Bush" button. Then you can say you were being "ironic." Europeans LOVE that shit.

Fortunately for american tourists though, fanny-packs are just as popular in some European countries, too.
