i dont know. but im willing to guess it is part of the reason for faster editing and more close-ups (the demands of the tv screen require this and so made movies seem slow in comparison)

there has always been a rivalry, hence the many developments that have sought to "improve" movies: surround sound, color, 3D, etc

the aspect ratio of a TV is based on the cinematic one from the 30's or 40's
