OK, so AMC Gremlins and Pacers are A-list 70s icons but a picture like this calls for a thread:

Anyway folks, give it up for the pride of Kenosha, Wisconsin

My purse is made from leftover Gremlin interior seat fabric.

My friend has a '77 Hornet. It's orange, and has matching orange hubcaps.

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

Sadly, I have not photos of it. But, let us not forget the AMC Eagle:

http://www.edmunds.com/media/news/column/letterstotheediors/02.dec/83.amc.eagle.500.jpg

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

I might buy a '75 Pacer! It's red and white. Salvaged title, but the guy who currently owns it seems like he's done a lot of good work on it and apparently no problem with the manifold (cracked manifold problems with Pacers the first couple of years). Cheap! - it's been sitting out on this street with a for sale sign on it for a long time. Only 65K miles on it.

Tim Ellison, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

You must! Does it have the classic stripes? An ex of mine came this close to buying a yellow one. It was in great condition too.

http://www.desoto58.com/story/pacer75c.jpg

"Husky drum brakes" !!!

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

Aforementioned friend also had an 50s Nash Rambler. He is a short little man, so the car fit him perfectly.

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure if it has the stripes. Going to look at it again Saturday.

Tim Ellison, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

Stripes or not, it's still a completely awesome car. I've never been in a Pacer, but I can only imagine it's super-sweet interior, and exterior, for that matter. Are you in an area with harsh winters and salt on the road?

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

No - southern California!

Tim Ellison, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

He's got $2,000 on the for sale sign but sounds like he wants to get rid of it - I think I'll offer $1,200 cash.

Tim Ellison, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.breithaupts.com/amcpachw.jpg

C. Grisso/McCain, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

Yes! Perfect! $1200 cash sounds perfect, if it's been sitting on the salt-free, sunny street for a while, and if the dude wants to get rid of it. (My friend got his Hornet in Buffalo, road salt capitol of the world, but it had been sitting in an old lady's garage for 25 years -- it had some ridiculously low mileage, like 2000, or something).

You must take pictures.

I saw a Merlin w/a beautiful fastback at a car lot in Western NY a couple years ago, but it was rusted to hell. I would have considered purchasing it, if it had been okay.

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

You could be driving this!

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

Not that you would need a matching purse...

I had the idea 2 or 3 months ago to create a feature-length documentary on the rise and fall of AMC. Unfortunately I don't have the finances, connections or know-how. PLZ someone in Hollywood make my dream come true.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 July 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

I used to drive a 3/4 ton Jeep pickup. It didn't say HONCHO on it, though.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 6 July 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

I bought the Pacer. It's really sweet. Driving it home someone honked as they passed by and another guy leaned out the passenger window and yelled "YEAH, BUDDY!!!" and was pumping his fist in the air.

my brother had two gremlins. they were fun. gotta have the original gas cap if you buy a gremlin.

hornets had nice gas caps too:

Yes! It looks like it's in great shape, too.

Z S, Sunday, 8 July 2007 00:06 (eighteen years ago)

he also had two huge advent floor speakers in the back of his gremlins. so scary.

scott seward, Sunday, 8 July 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

Oops, I was referring to Tim's Pacer.

Although the gas cap looks good too, don't get me wrong!

Z S, Sunday, 8 July 2007 00:08 (eighteen years ago)

that does look like it's in nice shape. can't see any rust or anything.

scott seward, Sunday, 8 July 2007 00:09 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, i gotcha. now i want a pacer. kinda. some guy who works where i work has an old rambler and i'd really like to drive it. reminds me of my grandfather.

scott seward, Sunday, 8 July 2007 00:10 (eighteen years ago)

It has been my dream for 10 years to own an AMC Eagle.

I have an ad in an old Playboy advertising an AMC with some Dingo denim boots tie-in, wherein all the seats were upholstered in denim w/pockets that snapped and everything. Wacky!

Abbott, Sunday, 8 July 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

More pictures! Almost a third of the entire exterior of the car is glass.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h157/timellison/pacer2.jpg

I really like the black and white interior and it cleaned up super nice!
