My purse is made from leftover Gremlin interior seat fabric.
My friend has a '77 Hornet. It's orange, and has matching orange hubcaps.
― molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)
Sadly, I have not photos of it. But, let us not forget the AMC Eagle:

― molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)
I might buy a '75 Pacer! It's red and white. Salvaged title, but the guy who currently owns it seems like he's done a lot of good work on it and apparently no problem with the manifold (cracked manifold problems with Pacers the first couple of years). Cheap! - it's been sitting out on this street with a for sale sign on it for a long time. Only 65K miles on it.
― Tim Ellison, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)
You must! Does it have the classic stripes? An ex of mine came this close to buying a yellow one. It was in great condition too.

Aforementioned friend also had an 50s Nash Rambler. He is a short little man, so the car fit him perfectly.
― molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)
I'm not sure if it has the stripes. Going to look at it again Saturday.
― Tim Ellison, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)
Stripes or not, it's still a completely awesome car. I've never been in a Pacer, but I can only imagine it's super-sweet interior, and exterior, for that matter. Are you in an area with harsh winters and salt on the road?
― molly mummenschanz, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)
No - southern California!
― Tim Ellison, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)
He's got $2,000 on the for sale sign but sounds like he wants to get rid of it - I think I'll offer $1,200 cash.

http://www.breithaupts.com/amcpachw.jpg
― C. Grisso/McCain, Friday, 6 July 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)
Yes! Perfect! $1200 cash sounds perfect, if it's been sitting on the salt-free, sunny street for a while, and if the dude wants to get rid of it. (My friend got his Hornet in Buffalo, road salt capitol of the world, but it had been sitting in an old lady's garage for 25 years -- it had some ridiculously low mileage, like 2000, or something).
You must take pictures.
I saw a Merlin w/a beautiful fastback at a car lot in Western NY a couple years ago, but it was rusted to hell. I would have considered purchasing it, if it had been okay.

I bought the Pacer. It's really sweet. Driving it home someone honked as they passed by and another guy leaned out the passenger window and yelled "YEAH, BUDDY!!!" and was pumping his fist in the air.

he also had two huge advent floor speakers in the back of his gremlins. so scary.

Oops, I was referring to Tim's Pacer.
Although the gas cap looks good too, don't get me wrong!

yeah, i gotcha. now i want a pacer. kinda. some guy who works where i work has an old rambler and i'd really like to drive it. reminds me of my grandfather.

It has been my dream for 10 years to own an AMC Eagle.
I have an ad in an old Playboy advertising an AMC with some Dingo denim boots tie-in, wherein all the seats were upholstered in denim w/pockets that snapped and everything. Wacky!
