Haha wow

Do I believe that sincere, well-meaning Christians can vote for George Bush and be right with God?  Sure!  I believe that a sincere, well-meaning Christian can vote for Howard Dean and be right with God!  Having an IQ greater than a slug is not necessary in order to be a Christian.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

* He demoralized Korean and Japanese Christians by bowing down at a pagan Shinto shrine in Japan.40
* His public profession that Muslims and Christians worship the same God, contrary to the plain teaching of Scripture.41, 42
* His endorsement of Ramadan, a Muslim fast, at a White House celebration.43

He also supports the assualt weapons ban, which is apparently goes contrary to the bible's teachings on assault weapons.

God angrily clarifies "Don't Kill" rule in particular

pete s, Sunday, 15 February 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The list of citations is bemusing but also interesting. Got some John Birch Society love here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

'As for me and my house, we will support and vote for a Presidential candidate that is pro-life without exceptions, who will not capitulate to the militant homosexuals, and who will constrain themselves to the Constitution upon which our nation was founded.'

Are there many such candidates?

pete s, Sunday, 15 February 2004 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

He's off to find one!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard F.A. Ghater is running for the Republican nomination.

Gay violence is such a problem in our world. There were those two guys who beat up Kramer in Seinfeld, and....

pete s, Sunday, 15 February 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm split half-way between i)it is good to see conservatives recognize that increasing unchecked power vested in GWB is worrying (even if their worries are unfounded) and ii) hey, Bush sorta rocks!

They really hate the National Endowment of the Arts, though.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 16 February 2004 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

the woman that set up this website:
http://www.geocities.com/corinnesinclair/christianresistance/howarddean.htm

was involved with a power struggle (including threatened lawsuits) before i got involved with the dean in london group.

her website scares me. she used to have a huge banner that said 'we are all jew,' which is a slight improvement.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 16 February 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing can stop us now
We are all made of Jew

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 16 February 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

* His proposal to increase funding of the National Endowment for the Arts by 15 percent, the highest percentage increase in two decades. That's a total of 139 million dollars in 2005 to finance art, much of which is blasphemous.

'he supported the american people, many of whom are sinners...'

It is interesting to note that the media reported the second attack as an attack on Piss Christ, while they fail even to mention the title of the other work (depicting a Ku Klux Klan member) that was kicked by the youth. Even though the youths stated that their actions were as a result of the racist and blasphemous nature of the exhibition. "I do not like racism, Putting them out in an art gallery like that creates racism and violence. The KKK could take over Australia." One of the perpetrators is reported as saying after describing how he "let loose a flying kick against a picture of the KU KLUX KLAN."

The "culture wars" in the U.S. were launched by what could be seen as a ritual counter-desecration, when Senator Alphonse D'Amato tore up a copy of Piss Christ in the chambers of the U.S. Senate on May 18, 1989. In so doing, the Senator launched Piss Christ into prominence, making it a symbol of the excesses of liberalism.

al d'amato in being completely fucking batshit shocker!!

Among the NEA’s astounding contributions to Western Civilization have been “Piss Christ,” a crucifix submerged in a vat of the artist’s urine, the self-portraits of homosexual photographer Robert Mapplethorpe with a bull whip in his rectum, and the theatrical delectations of a “performance artist” who staged sex acts while drenched in chocolate and bean sprouts.

$$, Monday, 16 February 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

you could say that the NEA's giving of money to Serrano is an act of performance art that has had more impact on society than anything Serrano himself created.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 16 February 2004 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

You can tell a non-Catholic wrote that article, because they don't get that it is really a 'civil war' between Catholics. All of that controversial art is Catholic.

Haha "controversial" art only turned boring in the last 100 years or so, seriously, mass communication has killed it. Shock = Boring.

TOMBOT, Monday, 16 February 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i didnt mean anything before the 80s really

oh for fucks sake http://bible-truth.org/AmericaUSPS.html

$$, Monday, 16 February 2004 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think a lot of that art has shock as its principal objective, though - it is very *expressive* art for people who have felt repression in their own lives.

Kerry (dymaxia), Monday, 16 February 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Not every person who professes to be a Christian is one

Nuff Said.

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Monday, 16 February 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

piss christ is holy, it is about the nature of the body, about how in catholicism the flesh is denigrated to the spirit, and then also about how christ was mocked, whipped, how His body was destroyed so that the spirit could be freed--there is respect and reflection in how serrano notes that.

anthony easton (anthony), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

First, if Bush is "incrementally" taking us anywhere, it's to the left.

Riiight. Can a kindly American poster explain this to a Brit, reared on the BBC's LIES!!??

you could say that the NEA's giving of money to Serrano is an act of performance art that has had more impact on society than anything Serrano himself created.

Hey, as long as you wash your mouth out with po-mo soap straight afterwards.
