(hm, not a dave q thread)
o no, don't look at me, i've never had a good argument ever

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 16 February 2004 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

1. I haven't actually seen casablanca but I think I have probably seen all the bits. I have seen die hard many times and it is obviously far superior. humphrey bogart had/has wooden teeth, though.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 16 February 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Would you rather hear Humphrey Bogart sing "Madame George" ("Shay goodbye shay goodbye shay goodbye . . . ") or Bruce Willis sing "Good Vibrations"? Either way, the whole thing doesn't add up to a hill of beans.

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Monday, 16 February 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, that is a bit.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 16 February 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Die hard is great, but not as good as under seige. Casablanca I might have seen, but can't quite recall. Pet Sounds is quite nice, but not their best, never heard Astral Weeks, don't intend to as I reckon it'll sound like Nick Drake or something like that. So, yeah Die Hard.

jel -- lennium -- (jel), Monday, 16 February 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

2. pet sounds is very considered and wonderfully layered? astral weeks is very loose and unobtrusivily produced? pet sounds has thirteen tracks? astral weeks has eight tracks? mike love is a dick? van morrison did a duet with cliff richard? pet sounds wins.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 16 February 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Humphrey Bogart didn't have wooden teeth, Walt Disney did.

Cathy (Cathy), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

george washington did

: (

RJG (RJG), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but can George Washington sing?

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

it is a bit.

but not all of it.

only bits.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Die Hard is good, but the really stupid elements of the film are SO MORONIC that it almost sinks the whole thing into hopeless mediocrity. Casablanca is perfect!

I don't like either of the albums = (

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i love die hard. casablanca is ok but a touch silly. a remake shd focus on the story of the young couple bogart helps out.

i love pet sounds, but often never listen to it. considered /= muso. whereas astral weeks is ultra-muso?

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

the first argument is better bcs i'm less sure lots of ppl have had it.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

someone should remake Astral Weeks with Peter Lorre in the Van Morrison role.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

& Die Hard starring Mike Love.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

with Janet Planet in the Bonnie Bedelia role.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Casablanca is great and Die Hard is crap. Astral Weeks is great. I've listened to Pet Sounds once or twice and just plain don't like the Beach Boys.

A quick note about Astral Weeks: Van Morrison looks exactly like Jim Morrison on the photo on the back of the LP. But I like it anyway. The album; not the photo, necessarily.

And yes, Peter Lorre would be a great Van Morrison.

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Die Hard is crap because of the characters of the smug yuppie, "Family Matters" cop, police chief, and the reporter. Everyone they touch in that film turns to shit.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ice Cube's "Who Got the Camera" vs Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat"

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

cozen, you misunderstand casablanca

joan, Monday, 16 February 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

where's the sanity in love?

who hasn't waded in the 'silliness'?

joan, Monday, 16 February 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

the silliness is in the delivery of some of the lines not the story. some sound like 'readymades' almost.

how do i understand casablanca?

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

die hard rules, it has hans gruber

but casablanca rules too

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 16 February 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

readymades...ummm

your gripes are understood

but then the words mean so much to you cozen, they're all you have.

casablanca helps in a lonely time, it deserves more than 'ok'

joan (joan), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

the first argument is better bcs i'm less sure lots of ppl have had it.

-- cozen (coze...),

Argument snob.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I pick the movies cuz I'd watch both again and I don't care if I ever hear those albums again (though that whole "am I missing something?" fear comes into play with Astral Weeks since I love the albums immediately after it so much).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh, n., i realised i don't agree w. tht sentiment at all just after posting. populist populist remember!

casablanca is good and rewards a second watching.
