Rejection: This Time its Personal

So yeah, I just met this guy, thought we clicked (the hours spent on his bed making out, etc. gave me this impression), and it turns out that apparently I'm dumb. He hasn't returned my calls (though in im has expressed an interest more than once in getting together again) and when I said two days ago 'look, it's clear I'm bugging you,' he said 'no no, it's been a weird week, I'm sorry I made you feel that way' and then came the fateful words, 'it's not you, it's me. He followed it up with 'I still have a big crush on you.'

Okay, what the fucking hell?

You have a crush, you want to see me, but you're completely unavailable? I mean, I'm nice, I'm cute, I don't smell, I'm reasonably witty, often articulate, occasionally silly - why am I left feeling like a fool?

Why do people DO this?

Jaycee, Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Aww baby I'm sorry - I was hoping for better... Come on down and we'll get drunk. xx

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh it's ok, I'm just mad that I let myself fall for it. I have to do a few things, but get the beer on ice.

Jaycee, Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe he thinks you arn't nice, cute, witty, articulate and that you smell.

He sounds like a big pussy.

You're probably not bugging him, he's just too pussy to come out and say "hey that night(s?) was really fun, but I'm not looking for more" either because he's hoping to have an "option" should he be in the neighborhood or he's just dishonorable enough not to be honest. He sounds like he's hoping to charm his way out of it. So many guys and girls fall for it when the opposite sex gives them excuses about why they can't get together or how it's not the right time. Sorry, but if you like someone no current circumstances will make it the wrong time (excepting a few very specific exceptions). I'm not saying you're falling for it at all, you sure aren't.

He could also be gay.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometimes things are complicated. Sometimes it really is them not you. He's not handling it brilliantly but perhaps he genuinely is confused about about his feelings for you. Perhaps he's hung up on someone else, or on the way previous relationships have affected him, or perhaps he's just got an embarrassing itch at the moment. Having said all that, that's no reason to persevere with him if you don't want hassle.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not sure if hassle is the word to use for dealing with people who give the "i really like you but i'm confused but let's hang out but i'm a mess but what are you doing tomorrow" speech. gut-wrenching frustration leading into homicidal rage might be a better way to put it, although the part where you eventually get so fed up that you scream "COCK OFF!" can be fun in a liberating kind of way.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope that scream isn't a literal precursor : o

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I think AImless has been reading my mail.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

see, you just have to realise that people are genuinely stupid and lame and that you cant count on anyone. then you will never be disappointed. its a sad reality to believe in, but it works for me.

but yeah, guys are definitely worse than girls with this sort of thing, but i hope for the best for you. emotions are a tricky thing.

todd swiss (eliti), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with N, I reckon he's got herpes or something and is panicking.

Maybe I've seen too many Fanclovir Flash ads or something.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe she has herpes. Or AIDS.

feminazi (feminazi), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

ease up on feminazi, it just got dumped.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Gear, it sounds like you konw who feminazi is. Care to share?

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no clue, but that vile bitterness has to come from somewhere.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, its called "I am C*lum"

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

My thought aren't flowing together very well here, but...
Some people are just wired differently. I have spent many hours wandering around in the fucked up psyches of girls I've known and I can tell you this, some people just ain't like you. I now know couples that are so weird and twisted, and are just perfect for each other. I guess I learned that if you can't make hide nor hair out of someone's behaviour, then they probably aren't "the one".

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, the fact that he says he still has a crush on you is a little confusing.

i guess the general consensus is that boys are dumb.

big surprise there!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

*nods & points at the boys*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

If we're taking a head count you can count me (generally) as dumb.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not. Masochistic maybe. Dumb, no.

hmmm, Tuesday, 17 February 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I act dumb but I don't think that dumb.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Why hasn't anyone considered that dude might be having THE WEEK FROM HELL?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i think you should relax jaycee, what's the rush for you? maybe later this week or next week things will be clearer

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...
