so i've a trip to sydney + taiwan coming up soon.

i'm having a hard time finding a decent souce for goings on in sydney (sydney.citysearch helped a little). there's the man ray exhibit and my aussie gal wants to take me to a "byron's bay" (sp¿) for a few days.

so.

what else is there¿

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Pssst Byron Bay is nowhere near sydney, so unless youre flying up there, prepare for a 8-10 hour drive (or more?).

Otherwise, blah! If youre coming all this way why arent you coming to Melbourne dammit! *shakes fist*

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

do colin and gaz

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

What, at the same time? That could be messy.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i myself am none too entertaining, however colin and rachael are possibly the most entertaining people on the planet.

general touristy stuff and here

what do you like? the mardi gras is coming up!

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

whatever you do - DON"T GO NORTH OF THE BRIDGE -

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

And DON'T go to Melbourne. They all wish they were European.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey! Bastids.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Just kidding.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

gotcha a bewdy!

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

if you ARE driving up to yron, drop by for a cuppa!

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

B missing there, sorry

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

If I go to Sydney I fear Mole will fill a chalice with my blood and I might expire.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a nice time eating breakfast each morning at a little cafe under the W hotel at Woolomooroo Wharf (sp?????)... it's right next to the Royal Botanical Gardens. Which is also a nice spot to bring a towel & a nice book & a picnic lunch. Hmm, and take a ferry ride out to Manly, you can take some nice photos of the Harbor.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's that Mexican restaurant I've heard good things about Ned:

http://chefmoz.org/Australia/NSW/Randwick/Azteca's_Mexican_Restaurant1008114198.html

They don't serve koala enchiladas, buit you'll notice they do serve, erm, 'mole'. Come to Australia, and maybe they can serve 'raggett' too.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I fear for my bodily integrity.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

ned's fate:

http://meterproducts.com/images/expired.jpg

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd suggest one of the other inner harbour ferries rather than the manly one. cos you don't really wanna go to manly do you? its a long ride, and then you'll only want to come back

*ducks as luna throws something*

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ned's fate

*gulp*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing yet!

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Should I be relieved?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, I only wanted to get off & turn around & come back. There are others that just do the harbor? :-)

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

When i went on the manly ferry i puked. But that was probably the lolly gobble bliss bombs.

Hang on, I'm having other thread dejavu now...

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

there really should be a thread a day like this.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i nearly had all my gear nicked by a taxi driver in sydney

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor dyson, I think we've scared him off coming to Australia at all haha :D

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I was in Australia right now. Mmm, sunshine! Yummy gelato at the ferry docks! Boy & I are convinced we should retire there when we turn 40. (He likes Melbourne, though, and I like Syndey... but I've not yet been to Melbourne.)

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

don't forget 40+ and humid, vomiting on ferries, shady taxi drivers after your gear, and cannibals.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no, there are cannibals in Sydney????

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

this is why ned has fears

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

This is why you come to melbourne instead, DO YOU SEE?!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:20 (twenty-two years ago)

so where's dyson?

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm here, relax - i leave for an hour and 35 posts¡
40+ and humid ~ better than -30 and dry, crunchy snow.
vomiting on ferries ~ i've vomited in worse places. i can add that to the list.
shady taxi drivers ~ not like those super helpful, friendly, bloke-next-door type taxi driver in... er...
and cannibals this could very well be the aussie girl i am staying with. if so, i don't care. kinda makes me all hawt actaully.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

This is why you come to melbourne instead, DO YOU SEE?!

I did come to Melbourne! And it was spiffy, and I was not devoured.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

come to sydney. i have ways of subduing colin.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

vodka and beatings

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

yes please!

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i was told of the massive drive to byron's bay but the girl really wants to go. i don't think i'll be in the mood for yet another day of traveling (i'm sure it's a lovely place, tho). also i leave just before the rjd2 show.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

melbourne takes longer than day! where are you staying?

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:45 (twenty-two years ago)

there are beaches and whatnot in southern NSW that are just as nice as byron. I'm talking Dalmeny and Moruya here. I have such fond memories of those places.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm staying in some matraville (metroville, mattresville - something like that). i was told you have to take a bus into sydney but i can walk to the beach on the days where i'll have to entertain myself.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Matraville is reasonably close to the city. Since you'll be in eastern sydney you should think about heading down to coogee too. It's quite nice down there this time of year.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

its near maroubra, south of the city.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, next to coogee.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

how about ina month¿

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

in a month we should be past the winds and rains of feb. not quite as hot as now. should be nice!

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah in a month is good too, probably better because it won't be quite as hot

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

hi kate

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah again, breaks+electro, you totally have to come to Melbourne dyson - why, our very own Andrew here could do you a fine set I'm sure.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the girl has all but admitted melbourne's superiority. (in regards to aussie cities that is). 'tis quite the drive and i've only so much time i'm afraid.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:46 (twenty-two years ago)

it's closer than byron bay :)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

er...i think not.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

She speaketh tha truth :)

But hey if you have to do Syd and time is short, it probably is too much :)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Shut up Gaz ;P

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I might be wrong but I know where I'd rather be.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

well, yes. given the choice i would rather drive to melb than byron i guess.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Melbourne's great if you can't afford to fly to Berlin *ducks*

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

too many damn germans

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Well it's been another great day for the Australians. We had some Pseudo Echo, we had some traditional Melb/Syd rivalry, we even got to threaten Ned again for no reason...

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:07 (twenty-two years ago)

one day we'll look back and recognise this as a golden age

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yum, sydney rock oysters and meat pies from that little truck by the docks or whatever.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW Trayce, Kooky's really great cos they are one of the few clubs that plays Aust electronic stuff. Actually they play about 80% Aust music, even from CD burns, whatever. Definitely one of the better clubs in Syd, although I know that isn't saying much.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah and people said hi to me (once again) and then went about their merry ways.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

hi

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck off :)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

ipsofacto, if you like vodka and beatings, you're always welcome at my house.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh i'm sure esoj is perfectly capable of dishing out, however i'll keep you in mind if he fails to meet up to my stringent standards.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Well it's been another great day for the Australians. We had some Pseudo Echo, we had some traditional Melb/Syd rivalry, we even got to threaten Ned again for no reason.

I am glad I was able to provide.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:21 (twenty-two years ago)

sustenance¿

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Sydney is the cess pool of the southern hemisphere. The only smart thing to do in Sydney is die or leave. Beware of glitzy drag queens bearing gifts of syphillis, and even more of smarmy cunts praising the nightlife.

Queen G-od I despise Sydney, Tuesday, 17 February 2004 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

and troughman

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

And the winner is.... SIDD A NEEEE.

(PS not)

(PPS I am so dead)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 08:45 (twenty-two years ago)

troughman is the only guy in sydney retail who says thankyou

queen G-angrene, Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
now that i'ver had some drink i occurs to me i never thanked you mongrels for the advice on your fantastic nation. esp mr.colin: club kooky was worth checking out (certainly not what i was expecting*.

things i liked about the place:
• toilets with 2 buttons - flush and super-flush™
the pie
• totally snow free
• money with windows
• platypuses or platipie or whatever
• how the name gary somehow becomes gaz or "gazer"
* how "ie" is attached to all sort of words, present = presie, utility vehicle = utie etc
• & all the other stuff really

i had stayed the whole time in sydney and wish i could've seen the rest of your island\
hopefully i can make it back soon to see all the other wonderful places you people have been going on about/from

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 3 June 2004 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i might know of some "people to do" in sydney. but as i'm not at all sure they want to be done, i can't name names.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 3 June 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

why didn't you FAP?

the surface noise for the sake of noise (electricsound), Thursday, 3 June 2004 06:28 (twenty-one years ago)

God god, was I drunk when I contributed to this thread!? I am very sorry I sound like such a tard.

Glad you enjoyed it here Dyson - y'all come back some time and we shall tour you about the coffeehouses, gin palaces and smack dens uhh art galleries. Yes.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 June 2004 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Dyson, as jim said, why didn't you FAP? I was probably at Club Kooky when you were there. Oh well - next time, OK?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 3 June 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i had only so much time and wanted to spend it with my southern hemisphere girlfriend. i think i mentioned on the mongrel/sheepfuxors thread that we were going to kooky but no one could make it.

no, i know i did. i challenged you fuxors to come and try to out-drink a canuk and no one took me up on it (cowards)¡

oh - just remembered one more thing i really liked
• little creatures (the beer)

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 3 June 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

yeech, that beer is the worst beer i've ever tasted in my entire life.

It tasted like someone had been using it as an ashtray!

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 3 June 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i was quite sure it was yummy.
however i had drank about 6 vb before hand - so who knows.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

VB is a sure way to kill any tastebuds you may have.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i will admit to being very desperate for something else to drink

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

considering VB is the devil's own piss anything is likely to taste like ambrosia afterwards

the surface noise for the sake of noise (electricsound), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

its a mans drink you panseys. its not supposed to taste good.

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Now it all becomes clear.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

@d@m you should come to the ett*long club with me. last time i was there barnsey AND diesel got up to jam (and this is for nicks, mate!!!). my mother-in-law couldn't tell them apart (she's 75) but pronounced them both "very good". also beer piss is cheap.

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I would love to go to Australia. I have no idea how I would ever find the time/money, though. Maybe I'll move countries again.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

we have a thriving film industry here.

its the US's.

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

you forget Lantana

the surface noise for the sake of noise (electricsound), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

All of ILX should move here. Except for those ones who shouldnt.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

don't try it!

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, I saw alexandra's project the other day and it is fucking brilliant. I have a crush on Rolf De Heer now.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm thinking about visiting Australia in (southern hemisphere) winter 2005. I haven't been for about 10 years.

But I think it's too early to plan it now.

jellybean (jellybean), Thursday, 3 June 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

your winter or our winter?

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 3 June 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

that's only a year away

the surface noise for the sake of noise (electricsound), Thursday, 3 June 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

if its UK winter its only 6 months away

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 3 June 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

your winter.
basically the 'summer' after i've finished my degree, and on the condition that I've found a job/post graduate course that starts in the Autumn..

I have relatives in Hong Kong, so the idea is to base myself there, and travel around for a couple of months, going to China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. and using up my savings.

I really want to go to Sydney again. It was my favourite city when I was 12
