Destroy: Angies Den (Neu-Stenders), the ubiquitous club in Aussie daytime soaps where the good girl takes druks for the first time to prove she's not a square, WITH DISASTEROUS CONSEQUENCES!!* and Bar Brookie (salsa nite on Thursday, it counts).

Have they ever been clubbing in Neighbours?

*viz that boring bint on Home and Away who wore a sequinned Union Jack top and ended up vomming on the dancefloor huzzah.

I bet Judge John Deed was a demon in the young people's dancing emporia when he was a bit younger.

I can imagine Jonathan Creek going down the indie disco.

Once in neighbours two of the girls went clubbing, I think Natalie Imbruglia was one of them then, their two boyfriends were suspicious of them and followed them, the girls started talking to two biker looking guys and dancing with them, the episode culminated in one of the boyfriends shouting "oh no mate, the girls are leaving with those two HOONS"

Hoons????

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I edited that post badly.

Search: The Bronze on Buffy. Oh no! The foxy bird that bloke thought he was about to pull has just chowed down on his jugular!

Hoons = Secretaries of State for Defence

Ah the sweet taste of alcopops and theme nights.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

That was THE LOFT from Hollyoaks there, ladies and gents!

The Bronze is somewhat confusing to my tastes, featuring as it does, coffee, tea and cakes simulatanously with an ineffective door precense and slow-dancing to live ROCK! bands. NOBODY SLOW DANCES TO LIVE BANDS!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

They used to go clubbing in Neighbours quite a bit when Tad was a DJ (ie years ago now but the last time I actually watched it). Apparently he played Mogwai one night and the kids went mad, which made me laugh because the scriptwriter clearly had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER who Mogwai were.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

There are actually lots of clubs in ANGEL, because it's more urban an' ting. Space for predators and parasites. And any excuse to watch David Boreanz making a fool out of himself by dancing is good by me.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

A scriptwrite on Neighbours was obviously a time-traveller from late 2003 and thought it was an absolute sure fire thing that Geoff Buff would carry the Dr Kelly can and becojme a term of derision. He should have waited, silly man and they would have said 'leaving with those two HUTTONS"

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

A gang from Brookie once had a conversation about going to Chester for some posh clubbing and mentioned the Loft. My soap world nearly imploded at that point but sadly we did not get to see Tinhead chatting up Izzy and being beaten up by Scott's heavies.

I don't think Emmerdale has a club, they have to go all the way to Leeds for that sort of thing.

Emma, Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Angies Den is the worst club in the world. I don't understand how it ever makes any money as there are never more than 30 people in there.

Admittedly, we never see Stenders on a Saturday night though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

The Woolpack has been known to rock though. And we all know about country pubs and late drinking.

This has got me thinking - is there a distinctlu urban soap which doesn't have a place where people go that represents all that is evil and modern and ready to disrupt the burbs?

Home and Away - The City (look what happened to nice Steven when he went there)
Neighbours - Anson's Corner (Melbourne I presume)
Weatherfield - Doesn't even admit the possibility of life beyond the street; there is the Street, and there is nothing.
Stenders - Up West
Brookside - Liverpool
Emmerdale - Hotton, or Leeds if you're heading for a major fall

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

A couple of weeks back Vicky told Sharon she was going 'to London'! eh? very confusing.

Emma, Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Hollyoaks has London, obviously, see the FALL OF RUTH (also 'arf of them are from Lahndahn anyway innit)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this was going to be a hitman and her thread :0(

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

And I suppose Buffy gets away with it by living on top of a hellmouth.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah I think Hollyoaks has Liverpool too, since that was where serial killer Toby plummeted to his death and Ellie nearly (but not quite) did too.

Coronation Street has Blackpool where some time ago there was a runaway kids in Blackpool storyline. Also poor Alan whatisface (Rita's husband who went under a tram).

Emma, Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

And it's always beautiful when the band 'guest stars' are product-placed, see also gratuitous Cibo Matto mentions on Buffy.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Quite right, I appeared to step into a vortex at some point around that plotline and missed the decent meaty stuff, only to return to Lisa wearing an unplesant velour tracksuit/baseball cap combo shouting at Elly for putting Dan in prison.

Eastenders is quite open for hemhem, location visits, they have been to not only Blackpool, but also Scotland, and Spain!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

FOOTBALLERS WIVE$ TONIGHT

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Alan Bradley. Rita! (Thwack!)

Some people are still cashing in on this I would like to organise a FAP for here.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Place bets now on the new swinging couple going to grebtly named fetish disco in Camden: Club Rub.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Aren't the holiday episodes of Hollyoaks basically an excuse for them to put it on at 10pm and for all the characters to say "bollocks" a lot and get their bits out for a fraction of a second near the end?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

this is so weird. I was going to post a question on this very topic but never quite got round to it! They do actually seem to go to clubs quite a lot in Neighbours these days it would seem, tho I only catch the odd five minutes or so here and there, and then never intentionally.

what is it specifically about clubs on TV that they always look so unrealistic? I can't remember ever seeing a club on TV that looked like a real club, yet I am not all sure why this is when TV sets seem to be able to represent other situations perfectly adequately.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Footballers Wives only really has lapdancing clubs, do they count? During the 'romantic' Valentine's weekend of Eastenders Weddings I saw Ricky's stag do in a dodgy Kent nightclub. classy location visit.

Emma, Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

They can't be arsed to shell out for extras, so clubs on TV are always underpopulated.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

you have a point there. Oh and don't they always have dry ice?

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

...and no-one drinks enough.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

what was that brief drama series set in Scotland (specific i know) revolving around an actual club?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

In clubs on television and in films people can have conversations without having to bellow down the other person's ear. Trainspotting is the only exception to this rule I can think of.

Joe Kay (feethurt), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The clubbing scene in Spaced as well, which is the most realistic on-screen club scene I've ever seen, by the way.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Bada Bing to thread.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, you are thinking of Tinsel Town. That was better than usual. Also whaddabout this Life clubbing etc?

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

All clubs on TV are non-smoking and the music is low enough so you can speak normally and be audible, they serve no brand name drinks.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Search - the clubbing episode in the first series of The Office.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Hoons?

Chasers! Along with New York New York - "The club that never sleeps - that shuts at 1..."

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 19 February 2004 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

hoons=revheads. Wheres the confusion?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 19 February 2004 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

one of my friends saw an episode of dawson's creek where they all went to warehouse rave and took pills and had a laugh
i think there were reprecussions though

robin (robin), Thursday, 19 February 2004 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you sure that wasn't Go?

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 19 February 2004 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard about that episode too - they all called it 'X' in that irrationally annoying American way.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 19 February 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahaha last night I remembered the piano (retch!) bar (retch!) with Vonda Shepherd (RETCH!) in Ally McBeal. Not that I watched that terrible car anaemic car crash of a programme, but would always shudder when catching the end of it before something else. For a bunh of supposedly achingly hip lawyers, they sure dance like champion dorks. And aaaaaargh Vonda Shepherd! Beverly Craven for the even more brain-damaged.
