@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll go first:

I like it.

There.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it, too.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it toooo....

andy, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't say no to a piece.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

it's excellent. needs just the right frosting, though.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't really like it.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

*spits out coffee*

jazz odysseus, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't kick it out of bed.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, lemon poppyseed is all right in my book. Although I've had lemon poppyseed muffins that were subpar.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Aja's just being contrarian. Everyone likes lemon poppyseed cake.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

No.

I'm serious!

Aja (aja), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Again, a contrarian.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

What exactly is it?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Cake with lemon and poppy seeds

Aja (aja), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It has too many nitrates.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a lemon cake with poppyseeds in it.

xpost

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Then don't eat it

(x post)

Aja (aja), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I was wondering if you were going to eat that cake or take it home for your wife as a birthday surprise.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no, it's all mine.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Fat.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop calling people fat!

Aja (aja), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't say no to a piece.

Yes, but what about the lemon poppyseed cake?

Herr Easy Joke (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Jawohl.

LPcake = goodness.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Mm MMmm. No icing, but with lemon syrup poured over.

isadora (isadora), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I dont mind it but I hate poppyseeds being stuck in my teeth, so that makes it lose cool points.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

it screwed me for a drug test once. fuckin' singapore....

chris d (Chris DeWolf), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It's great, but orange poppyseed cake is better. Really!

But then there's:

Hunter (Hunter), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Those are much better!

Aja (aja), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

lemon poppyseed is nice, almond poppyseed can go eat a bag of dicks.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Tasty, though I like mine really lemony. The stuff they try to pass off at the coffee joints in New Haven as "lemon poppy muffins" is short on both ingredients, and woefully dry, too.

the krza (krza), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never had lemon poppyseed cake. There is a hole in my life where it should be.

...anyone got any recipes?

cis (cis), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

almond poppyseed I've never had but it sounds entirely too busy to really enjoy.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

it's that fakey almond flavor I hate.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

nice, i like Pret A Manger's (no frosting).

You have a poppyseed in your teeth @d@m.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's OK but maybe a bit overrated.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I've been asked my opinion before.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Lemon poppyseed muffins are delicious.

Allyzay, Friday, 20 February 2004 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Lemon poppyseed bundt cake with lemon syrup poured on top = mmmm.

Mellow Dee (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 20 February 2004 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

lemon mini muffins from stop n shop is the crack

kephm, Friday, 20 February 2004 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

It's one of the best cakes there is. Matt's homemade L&P muffins are even better.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 20 February 2004 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never had Lemon Poppyseed cake. This now makes me extremely sad.

I do however have a recipe for a really delicious Orange Sunflower cake, if anyone's interested.

C J (C J), Friday, 20 February 2004 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

That sounds yummy and summery CJ! I wd love the recipe if you could send it to my webmail address :)

I will reciprocate with Matt's muffin recipe if I can find it at home later.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i am opposed to the fusing of lemons with cake

stevem (blueski), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Lemon Poppyseed cake is great. I wonder if I can get some anywhere near here.

Sticking syrup on lovely light things = the enormous american mistake.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem so far off the money he's in fact bankrupt. WTF?

Archel (Archel), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Where can one buy poppy seeds in the UK? I would guess 'ethnic' emporia, but would like confirmation. I really like the popping crunchiness you get when biting into cakes with them in.

I am a fan of lemon in cake. Lemon curd used instead of part of the fat and sugar in a recipe keeps cakes lovely and moist. Yum.

Stevem is crazy in the coconuts. He was wearing brown yesterday, so it's no surprise.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

U should def. make a lemong and poppy seed cake when yr boyfriend's around, Liz. :)

not robster (robster), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmmmm I sense subterfuge.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't like lemon in cake

i like brown

stevem (blueski), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

In cake?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

BROWN IS FOR GRAVY!
LEMON IS FOR CAKE!

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone make stevem a shitcake STAT (that'll learn 'im!).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a useful post but... must... stop... laughing... first.

OK.

Liz, you can get poppy seeds in some large supermarkets, and most decent 'health food' shoppes. As well as being tasty, they look v. pretty stored in a glass jar - all the tiny variations in blue-black shades, like one of those sand things from the Isle of Wight. < /Delia Smith >

Archel (Archel), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I just eat a lemon and smoke some opium?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

No. SUGAR is the magic ingredient here. Sugar and FAT.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmmmm lard. I promised Madchen years ago that I'd learn how to make proper lardy cakes, but never did. I am ashamed of myself.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Shitcake is a beautiful new addition to my vocabulary.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

how about SHOE CAKE

http://www.celebrationcakes.biz/Images/Cake_Shoe.jpg

"you're a fakey cake maker and i aint got time for yoooooou"

stevem (blueski), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

When done right, it's a vibrant thang.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Friday, 20 February 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I just eat a lemon and smoke some opium?

ADDICT.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

K's Choice to thread.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 February 2004 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometimes it hits the spot, but sometimes it has an icky aftertaste. Poppy seeds are fun to bite - a good teeth sensation - but lemon cake can sometimes leave your teeth feeling filmy. It would be better if it actually had opium in it.

maria d, Friday, 20 February 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

My kind of lemon-poppyseed-cake-ish recipe. Lemon-soaked poppyseeds, blueberries, cranberries.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 20 February 2004 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought poppy seeds at the weekend from Robster's lovely local ethnic emporium. So I will be making cake this week! If the heated London FAP scene allows me any time to do so, that is.

Tep's recipe looks great. MMmmm tart(y) fruity bready stuff.
