If I see one more news segment on plucky "American Idol" loser William "She Bangs" Hung, and how his failure is the greatest heartstring-pulling success story of our time.....

....I promise I'll raise a bloodthirsty army of flying, robotic Great White Sharks and unleash them on this stupid, oxygen-wasting world.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, even if it was momentarily funny, those fleeting nanoseconds are now looooooooooooooooooooonng gone.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.williamhung.net/
he reminds me of my former roommate when i was in a berkeley dorm. it was like living with a barbershop quartet.
TS: rainproof parade of buoyant teddy bears vs. robotic great white sharks.

scissors (Honda), Saturday, 21 February 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

take a chill pill.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 21 February 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

dude

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 21 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder how it would feel to be on permanent "ARGH!"...

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Saturday, 21 February 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

true. someone does need to put a stop to this. it was never funny to begin with.

aeha, Saturday, 21 February 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

There ya go! See it's not just me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

This still makes no sense to me.

What the hell is so great about him.

Bring on the army of robotic sharks Alex!!!

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you heard any remix of his audition yet Alex?

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I was wondering why there was a song lyric at work as a screen saver that began 'she bangs' and now I know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I was hoping the post after the ellipses would read "I will throw a big party with ice cream and cake for all", but those hopes were dashed.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Why would he do that?

Hello, this is Alex in NYC. He like's to vent out his anger.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Please don't speak for me, Aja.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Whatever.

We all need someone to.

Besides, you took too long.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ice Cream and Cake have their place. Just not in relation to William Hung. Well, maybe at the news of his retirement from the public eye.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You spoke for me once. I didn't get all pissed off and never want you to do that agian.

You really do like to vent your rage.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing that bothers me the most about him is, he chose to sing a Ricki Martin song.

Just awful.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Look at it this way Alex, William Hung's nanoseconds are up, and imagine how much worse the media saturation will be during the last two weeks of Idol. You may find yourself longing for skinny Chinese dudes humiliating themselves for your entertainment rather than plastic face R&B Idol cutouts.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I was in a karaoke bar last night and so many azian doods were down for a rousing show of solidarity by doing She Bangs. Serious.

ModJ (ModJ), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG.

Awful.

Just awful.

So were any of them good?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, my supervisor made me watch the "She Bangs" clip off of the net and while I giggled, I didn't realize it would become a momentary THING.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I am grateful for the revival of the song "She Bangs." That was slept on back in the day.Though Frank Kogan didn't dig it.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I might just like the fact that the guy decided to make his first single on the follow-up album another "she so horny" anthem.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like the idea of laughing at someone just because he happens to be a Chinese guy trying to sing an English song. I mean yeah, it was kinda funny for the first five seconds or whatever but now that it's been built up to this, the whole thing strikes me as being a little, erm, racist. Or maybe that's too strong a word, but whatever.. it just doesn't sit well with me. I think it's the way in which the whole thing seems like a big joke done at the poor guy's expense. It just makes me feel sorry for him and hate american pop culture even more.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a lot less racist in the context of a ton of "wow they're bad singers" clips (though I still squrimed a bit at the whole Gong Show aspect). I was surprised to find out he's the ONE though.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont think its so much as 'hes chinese' as hes a total fucking geek. making fun of geeks is america's pasttime. and the internet only makes it worse. observe the forwarding of that clip of the fat kid doing that stars wars stuff through offices across america.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it could be argued that American Idol has both rewarded and mocked freaks equally.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps, but I think the fact that he's Chinese probably tipped the scales for a lot of people. Hell, maybe even me. Who knows?

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

it could be argued that American Idol has both rewarded and mocked freaks equally.

That could be true.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

BOOGER!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

(x-post)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

What do you think Simon would have said to Michale Stipe if he wasn't famous and and young enough and auditioned?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry, what?

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Read me Goddamn post!!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

(no he's making a joke about how Stipe was a mumbler)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

and Billy Corgan's the one I'd really like to see sing "She Bangs" on American Idol.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG!!

Funny!!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

No Courtney Love, sings "She Bangs", that would be funny!

Also Kurt Cobain, but he's dead.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

take chill pills, plz.

be back, later.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"You are clearly a musical god. Welcome to Hollywood." - Simon's response after a theoretical Stipe audition.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

He'd also say, "I can hear it, but I don't see it. You've got a good voice, but you've got to change your look. Any way, you're through to the next round. Welcome to Hollywood."

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Then Stipe'd say: "I don't want to be Iggy Pop, but if that's what it takes.. hey!"

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Oow.

Michale Stipe shirtless.

Oh, wait.

AHHHHHH!!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

From now on, I'm imagining everything that Alex says in the voice of Denis Leary. It works if you add "...OK?!" to the end of every sentence.

NA (Nick A.), Sunday, 22 February 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I always imagine his voice as one of those very tall, skinny guys with those extrodinarially deep voices.

Well, maybe not all the time.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 22 February 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

From now on, I'm imagining everything that Alex says in the voice of Denis Leary. It works if you add "...OK?!" to the end of every sentence.
"I think You hear me knockin' Billy Hung, and I think I'm comin' in...and I'm bringing Latoya Jackson an' Fab Morvan and we're all gonna have a little supersession...Oh-KAAY!?"

Hung's got a $25,000 record deal!
I wish him luck.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Sunday, 22 February 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck it, I still want caXe0r

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Sunday, 22 February 2004 04:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I seriously think this guy is somewhat, um, mentally challenged, which makes it impossible to laugh at him without a guilty conscience.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 22 February 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe its taken your version of American Idol three years to throw up one of these "characters". We get two a series over here. They always end up doing commercials. And then going home to cry in the corner of their bedroom over the futility of their life.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 22 February 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

And then going home to cry in the corner of their bedroom over the futility of their life.
Which means that they are essentially Stephen Patrick Morrissey, except with less ego and more talent. Right?

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Sunday, 22 February 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Welcome to Hollywood

Simon cowell says this? Good god. Like he owns it and it's his to give to people.

He didn't say that on "Pop Idol" (yeah I know, but...) more "See you in London".

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 23 February 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The kid's got something.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Im sorry, but I think the Big Girls Rock Hawaiian Girl was great lastnight. Her voice was somewhat beautiful.

Chris 'The Big Ragu' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

She was better than Matt Rosebowl. They all were.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Lonnie or whatever his name was that Simon called "Daddio" in his OG audition has one of the best voices in the competition, WAAAAAAAAAY the fuck better than some of those asshats who made it to the second round. Infrigginjustice.

In other news: I can't believe I actually care about this shit.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude's got a record deal now. Expect the first single, "Why, No. What Is the Difference between Laughing With and Laughing At?" to be the anthem of the summer.

Prude (Prude), Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"William is the perfect artist for our culturally diverse society. He is the new Elvis!"

Jesus christ...

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Not meant as a slant on Mr. Hung, more a slant on the vacuous press release-ese of KOCH records.
