Can any Texas ILXers shed any more light on the rumors of Gov. Perry's homosexual love affair with his Sec. of State?

There's a bunch of links in http://www.metafilter.com/ today to various sites (mostly blogs) talking about how the rumor has been building to a crescendo the past week. Supposedly his wife has left the governor quarters and has or will be filing for divorce. If this turns out to be true, this will be one of the more bizarre stories I've heard the past decade.

Even if it were true (and I trust about 1% of 'blog news' in the world)(especially left/Democratic-leaning blogs), the Democrats won't be able to field a candidate who can win, so instead we'll just get another jackass.

I would have been happy this spring, as it sets up David Dewhurst (poss. the least useless and evil Republican politician in Texas) for Governor, but after he had to be forced into caving on redistricting, I can't see him being their man.

Not that I trust right/GOP-leaning blogs, either, though. But left/Democratic blogs are especially untrustworthy on this issue.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Sunday, 22 February 2004 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Vision of a future good old boy conversation:

"See, that's what living in Austin does to you. They turn a good Aggie into a flaming homo!"

There's that classic tune from RevCo..

"Minds are empty, heads are hollow.
You might find out the truth is hard to swallow.
There´s a place down there, where heads are square.
Laws are tough and you are bare.
Where is a lawman, there is a lawman.
Who is the right, and who is the wrong man.
It doesn't take much to kill a guy.
Don´t get in my face and ask me why...
Texas is the place...
HANG´EM HIGH!
Beers, steers, and queers"

I wonder how the GOP will react to this. Seriously, I can't figure how..

daria g (daria g), Sunday, 22 February 2004 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

By covering that shit up so fast your head will spin around. And if they can't cover it up, they'll ditch him.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 22 February 2004 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

No way they'd waste political capital on gay (or at least bi) Republican.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 22 February 2004 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure, I don't expect them to rush to his defense. I wonder if they'll be able to cover it up - from what I read on the blogs (Burnt Orange Report is on the case) pretty much everyone in both parties is gossiping about it, the national media's looking for a story..
