Why is it that about a third of all reviews with famous rock singers begin with "this guy is supposed to be mean and hard to interview, but he's not"?

I've never actually read anything saying that Thom Yorke or Morrissey or Sigur Ros are prickley and pretentious in interviews, I've only ever read things which say that everyone says they are, but in fact they're not.

Why is this?

Thom Yorke lives under my dining room table. Man, he's a bastard, you don't want to interview him.

Thom Yorke was prickly and pretentious when I interviewed him, but I can't remember whether I bothered mentioning that or not (I didn't have much space to go into the details). If I didn't, I'll redress the balance by mentioning it now.

I will beat him now. Bad, Thom! Wait, it's easier just to kick him.

I enjoy the interviews in which the supposedly prickly interviewees turn out to be very prickly indeed, especially when the journalist's idiocy is the cause, i.e. guy asks incredibly stupid and rude question, Lou Reed refuses to answer, guy asks essentially same question again, Lou Reed walks out, piece ends "that Lou Reed, what a moany cunt, eh?".
