Have any of th US Democratic party candidates got any ideas?

Everything they do is in reaction to george Bush, no new ideas it seems. This doesn't look like a good way to win an election. I know Bush gives a lot to react against but a platform based on we won't do that and we'll repeal the other doesn't look like a vote winner to me. The centre may be on the back foot but without any policies to to attack the right with it will wither and die.

your point is basically the one I'm hearing John Edwards make in an interview on the radio right now.

But has he got any ideas?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

that remains to be seen/heard.

oh no Ed = john edwards, i'd never spotted this before, but now you mention it, i've never seen them in the same room...

the interview was a replay of one from last November, maybe Edwards' new ideas then are old now, or somthing.

Actually I think this situation has been part of the Bush plan all along. He's been co-opting the Dems on issue after issue (prescription drugs for seniors, medicare reform, education bill, campaign finance reform) for the last few years, and now they've got nothing to move forward on. Bush can just run the campaign on personality, and position himself as the brave, charismatic war leader vs. craven dullard John Kerry.

It'll probably work.

Do you need ideas to be a good president?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

(or leader of any country for that matter?)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Personally, I'd rather have a president with no ideas than bad ideas.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

brave

How?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

providing health care coverage for all. restoring relationships with allies, promoting democracy abroad, supporting human rights. protecting the environment & working to find alternative energy sources & address global warming and climate change. enforcing labor standards in trade agreements. corporate tax breaks that promote job creation at home, instead of rewards for outsourcing of jobs overseas. increasing the minimum wage. cutting the deficit. tuition assistance and tax credits for higher education. a real response to the international AIDS crisis. reducing dependence on foreign oil.

I don't know though, I guess nobody has any ideas..

Sure they have ideas! For example Kucinich will be sitting around at home and he'll be like "Oh yeah, this is a good sandwich! You know what would go really good on this? Dijon Mustard!! Fuck yeah!!!"

Dan I., Tuesday, 24 February 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Joementum"! Now that was an idea!

Do you think ideas actually help anyone get elected? People with complex healthcare plans always get labelled wonks.
