Kirsten Dunst to Michel Gondry on nudity

I'm paraphrasing, cause I don't have the DVD booklet to hand, but Gondry reports how she said something like '"Sorry Michel, but the only person I'll go nude for is Almodovar". Which made Michel Gondry feel really embarrassed and seedy, because he hadn't even really asked her to.

Saying "I'll only go nude for such and such a director" - classic or dud?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

bitch needs to not step to pervy gallic genius

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Dagnabit. Almodovar is the shittiest director anyway! Maybe if I became a film director... just maybe...

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

has 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' been released yet? Anywhere, I mean. It was originally due before Christmas IIRC.

Jeff W (zebedee), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll only go nude for Harry S Morgan

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

So Kirsten's like a prude who'd potentially sell out? I don't think I fancy her no more.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

nothing prudish about not wanting to strip off! but her taste is worse than i'd have thought; i imagine she thinks stripping for pedro is not 'selling out' cos a) he's european and b) gay. but still. almodovar. jesus.

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Has Almodovar indicated that he'd like her to a) appear and b) be nude in a film of his? I mean, Kirsten love, you're kind of counting yr nudity chicks before they're really hatched.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

there must be *some* reason for her nominating pedro, i'd guess... i like actresses who don't go naked anyway, it's kind of old-world and distinguished these days. keira knightley is a slapper, she got 'em out in like her first film. no class.

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

'eternal sunshine' comes out in the states on 19 march

maura (maura), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

If Pedro doesn't want to see Kirsten Dunst in the nude he must be some kind of poof!

(most googled ILXor thread evah!)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

keira knightley is a slapper, she got 'em out in like her first film. no class

uh...are we talking about Bend It Like Beckham here? (haven't seen it)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

'The Hole' (or so I'm told, I haven't seen it).

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

This is just some not-so-subtle "cast me, Pedro!!" shenanigans, N. I wouldn't worry too much that she didn't mention you.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not really that into Kirsten Dunst.

I sense the influence of Julie Burchill on Enrique's anti-nudity stance.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, much as I like/used to like (I don't read The Times) Burchill, this is one from the heart. I don't dislike actresses who take their clothes off, but but but. Often it's naff. Jennifer Aniston never has, Gwyneth Paltrow has -- QED.

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

If I were Julie Burchill I might well be anti-nudity too.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

On Keira's breats: As the pretty-boy American in The Hole said when Keira whipped 'em out, "Two thumbs up!"
(Claim to fame: The Hole was written by my old English teacher.)

I finally watched Bend It last week and after careful deliberation I've decided I do in fact like Keira somewhat(not for her tits, I mean). What's her co-star up to?

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember when Teri Hatcher stripped off - disappointment all round.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

If I were Julie Burchill I might well be anti-nudity too.
-- suzy

meowsy!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

What's her co-star up to?

not getting the same breaks as Keira - possibly due to being typecast as ASIAN girl trying to please ASIAN parents whilst generally rebelling against supposed ASIAN ideas about what a young ASIAN woman should do with her ASIAN life, another small-budget but rather successful and well received ASIAN based dramacom coming soon..?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. I didn't think much of her in 'Love Actually'. She seems pretty vile in interviews.

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe she just said that because Gondry is a creepy hack.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently she and Adrien Brody (both in Glasgow filming The Jacket) turned up at local bar Stereo and demanded to get served even though it was past closing time. Bar staff showed admirable slebresistance and showed them the door.

(this is where RJG comes along with his suspect Dan Ackroyd Glasgow story)

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

he's not tho (x-post)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

His videos have always been k-rub.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

B-b-but I thought bars in Scotland were open like ALL NIGHT LONG. Gondry is a bit weird, if talented.

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicole I am going to kill you

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicole has been waiting for an opportunity to say this ever since her cryptic Chris Cunningham comment.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Mentalism has taken over, everyone, please use the exits located at the front and rear of the thread. Thank you.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously tho i'm interested in people's criticisms of him and his work, tho it is a little off-topic

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't realize there was such love for him. I tried to revive the 'Humang Nature' thread recently but no dice. He's not *that* bluddy good. But I am rockist and don't think music vids are like 'mazin really.

Saying he isn't all that is not mentalism!!

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It is a sign of sanity to think his videos are twee rubbish.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Kiera is the new Winona, and BOY, do I like her for it! *pervy laughter*

As for Kirsten, she seems like the worst kind of poseur. Enrique OTM. Euro-chic? HAha. Pretentious shtick is wot. My heart has been broken yet again.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

nicole otm!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

anyway, taking videos seriously as "art" is so art-school-1997 anyway

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

anyway, thank god pen & pixel/hype williams clones came along in the mid-late 90s to kill all that

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i still think kirsten dunst is hot though (my skinny girl crush of shame)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't get me wrong, Kirsten and me are still in that zone. I need Gondry's appeal explained to me. Cunningham isn't owt special neither. I like Jonze: or maybe I just like Kaufman.

Stongo otm abt videos.

ENRQ (Enrique), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet Kirsten would take her clothes off for Hype Williams.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i think he's the best music video director of all time which obviously not everyone would consider that relevant (as in music-video not that relevant an artform - but i would argue they are TO THE MOTHERFUCKING DEATH YOU CLUELESS HEATHENS) but yes i can see that the process from 3 minute short pop 'film'-maker to Hollywoodish leftstream director of longer features can be tricky and that would offer some obstacles for him. still haven't seen Human Nature despite owning the DVD for some months now - but the Gondry DVD is so worth buying even tho it does neglect some of his cool promos, i like the short film he made called 'The Letter' several years back - there's a naive charm (alongside the inspired metaphors and illusionism) in it that i wouldn't call pretentious and i think that exists to this day in his output.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem, is smoke coming out of your ears?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

it is, but in the next shot you see that my head is actually kettle shaped, and then you take my head off and pour the boiling water into a basin and there's a fish singing the next line of the song

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

SEE? I AM AS GOOD AS HIM

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

is it wrong that i am now picturing neon purple fish-eye shots of kirsten dunst naked?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I also think Gondry is the best video director of all time, though a coked-up madman making me watch the 'Star Guitar' promo five times in a row did test my affections.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

very very wrong jessbag

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

though a coked-up madman making me watch the 'Star Guitar' promo five times in a row did test my affections

This is one of those Fight Club-esque scenes where the madman is yourself, no?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, this has served as a good way to clear the cobwebs out of my head in the morning.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

How the fuck anyone could even notice Kirsten Dunst was in Spiderman when Tobey Maguire was also in it is beyond me. Jackasses.

Allyzay, Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Portman is goth-bait. I shouldn't even have to explain this.

ENRQ (Enrique), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

No one asked for you to explain it.

Allyzay, Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

'frat bait'?

ENRQ (Enrique), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Wie sagt man das, "go back to masturbating"?

Allyzay, Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Stiles all the way. Sheesh.

ENRQ (Enrique), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Tobey McGuire didn't have his cock out. Though the infamous photo has transformed in my mind to Tobey, Momus and Dang all lettin' it hang loose.

(x-post)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

KD didn't have her cock out either... what you saying?

ENRQ (Enrique), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

woah i was just gonna say Stiles is being overlooked here (hi fives Ally and ENRQ). both Dunst and Portman (and maybe Stiles too) are almost too pretty it lessens the sexiness, if you see what i mean (obv they are very attractive) tho some of those Dunst pics are affecting that view...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

'Mona Lisa Smile': worth it?

ENRQ (Enrique), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunst is really *not* that pretty. Pretty, yes, compared to the average woman, but surely her hotness derives from other things. She is one of the worst examples of a Hollywood star being 'too pretty to be sexy' that I can think of. Natalie Portman, yes.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Nipples, Nick, think nipples.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't want to have to tell you again.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm perfectly aware that I was using 'things' as a euphemism.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

we clearly have different definitions of prettiness ;)

Pretty, yes, compared to the average woman

um, this alone would make her pretty (or even SUPERpretty) in the universal sense no? but then i see pretty girls every day (only on the street or whatever mind)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

So do I. But I see a lot of women in the street. Maybe one in 200 is prettier than Kirsten Dunst.

You were talking about too pretty, which is 'pretty' damned unusual.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, nick.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
America's Sweetheart Dumps U.S. for Some Douchebag

HOLLYWOOD, CA—Americans gathered Monday to discuss their feelings of heartbreak, anger, and resentment toward America's sweetheart Kirsten Dunst, after the film star broke up with the U.S. to be with some douchebag that everyone thought was gay.
"I don't think anyone expected this," Grangeville, ID resident Troy Pilner said, to murmurs of agreement from the rest of America. "We really cared about her, and I thought she cared about us. How can this butt-munch she's seeing provide something that the 293 million of us can't?"
Many Americans have theories about why Dunst—whose film credits include the two Spider-Man blockbusters, Bring It On, and The Virgin Suicides—broke up with us. Residents of Arizona report that Dunst's new boyfriend, Portuguese shipbuilding magnate Gilberto Nunes, must have filled her head with lies. Florida residents suggest that Dunst got scared when she realized how much she cared about us.
When asked to comment on these theories, Wyoming residents said it was still difficult to understand "what could have driven [Dunst] into the arms of such a cock."
"I never would've thought she'd be fooled by some Eurotrash pretty-boy gaylord with six-pack abs and a 100-foot yacht," Nashua, NH resident James Westerly said. "If we'd known that was what she wanted, we would have dyed our hair and bought her a bunch of expensive presents. But I always assumed our relationship was deeper than that. I really thought the U.S. and Kirsten Dunst were soulmates."
Added Philadelphia resident Joyce Lister: "Did you see those pictures in the Enquirer where [Nunes] had his shirt open so you could see some stupid tattoo on his chest? God, I hate that guy."
The U.S. then began to sob uncontrollably.
For the past week, Americans have been endlessly dissecting and discussing the "Dear John" letter we received from Dunst on Aug. 11.
"The letter from Kirsten really hurt me," said Plains, GA resident Amy Treemont, who has loved Dunst ever since she saw her in Little Women. "Look at this section where she talks about needing to grow as a person and an actress. I didn't know she felt like we were keeping her down. Maybe she thought running off with that Nunes prick was easier than working out our problems."
Continued Treemont: "Kirsten, if you can hear this, we still love you and want you back."
Many dumped Americans said they were angry that Dunst broke up with them in a letter, feeling that a phone call would have been more appropriate. Those who have tried to reach her to discuss the matter report that her phone number has been changed.
"I think she owes us an explanation, but she won't agree to meet us for lunch," Prineville, OR resident Keith Starling said. "The U.S. deserves some closure. I mean, why did she leave us for him, of all people? He's such a worthless poseur."
Residents of Florida said they came close to fighting Nunes Friday at a Miami Beach bar.
"We were all just drinking and trying to forget when he strolled in like he was King Shit," Miami's Terry Masters said. "I wanted to deck him right then and there. The bar went real quiet, and he was like, 'Doy... What's going on?' Like he didn't know. If it wasn't for our friends from Puerto Rico holding us back, I swear he'd be dead. Next time, we kick his ass on sight."
This week, Congress fiercely debated a piece of legislation that would have authorized the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division to beat Nunes to within an inch of his life. Partisan bickering held up the bill, with Republicans wanting to add a rider labeling Nunes a "pussy" and Democrats wanting to call him a "first-class jerkoff."
Though reluctant to discuss the messy breakup, Dunst said she still cares about the U.S. very much and never meant to hurt anyone, but that those of us who are seeking a reconciliation "shouldn't hold [our] breath."
"I'm not denying that there were wonderful moments and a lot of deep feelings between us," Dunst said. "There were just too many problems. What happened between [human shitpile] Gilberto [Nunes] and me happened naturally. He makes me feel special. The sooner everyone realizes that my relationship with him is for real, the sooner we can all get on with our lives."
Continued Dunst: "It's not like America has never changed its mind. Do I need to mention a certain woman named Julia Roberts? Or Meg Ryan, while I'm at it? If you ask me, America doesn't know what it wants."
In response to Dunst's comments, the U.S. decided to go on a three-day bender.
