pick two jokers out of that lot, additional bonus for goal tally match (as with several previous rounds e.g. if 30 goals are scored and your predictions equal 30 goals you get 30 points)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 1 March 2004 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

(oh and deadline for games taking place from March 13th onwards will be before kick-off on that day, so you don't have to do them all in one go - hopefully it wont get too confusing)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 1 March 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem, could you have another look at mine? I got two predictions correct, one of which is my joker - surely more than 13 points in total?

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 1 May 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we doing a penultimate weekend round?

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, like it affects you mr runaway victor...

i dunno, i forgot to post a fixture list, i'm sorry guys

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Have I been relegated then?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not 100% settled yet, is it? What if someone got a massive double bonus from the last couple of weeks?

Don't worry though, Steve. Much respect for keeping this going all season and updating the tables each week - it must be a pain in the arse sometimes.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 7 May 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh i haven't done last week's scores yet either. huge apologies. we really SHOULD a round this weekend but i fear it's too late for everyone left to respond in time now.

we'll have to make the most of it and skip to the ULTIMATE FINAL ROUND OF DEATH

Wed May 12 2004
Southampton v Newcastle

Sat May 15 2004
Man City v Everton
Portsmouth v Middlesbrough
Wolves v Tottenham
Arsenal v Leicester
Aston Villa v Man Utd
Blackburn v Birmingham
Bolton v Fulham
Charlton v Southampton
Chelsea v Leeds
Liverpool v Newcastle

bonus: pick THREE JOKERS, QUADRUPLE points for the most accurate one - DOUBLE for the other two, PLUS goal tally bonus (automatic, as before) - this time whoever is closest to the actual tally will get the points tho

again sorry for being so wacky with the bonuses at times and stuff - hope people have had fun playing. there should really be a prize of some sort for james who has surely won - i'll see if i can rustle something up (that doesn't cost me anything)

scores from last round to come

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, well you're not going to believe this but guess who was the ONLY person to score ANY points from that last round. the problem with the wild card was that a few people (myself included) scored only the SAME amount of points from it as another joker or indeed scored zero for all three of their jokers - but equal does of course not mean the same as more than (ow my head) - in hindsight this should've been 'wildcard joker must at least equal one or both of the other jokers' perhaps - huge apologies once again - it may not be any fairer to change the rule to that now i suppose. so another hare-brained scheme to liven things up (and it could've, the idea was theoretically sound - we just didn't take into account the possibility of such mentalist results from the last round, except James Ball whose joker choices smacked of the ultra-tactical) has backfired dammit. good job it didn't really affect anyone tho as the contest was pretty much already wrapped up.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ultra-tactical? Surely not. Me?

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

you're so clever!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 7 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that I would have been anywhere near James's magnificence, but tactical play has occurred to me on a few occasions. If I'd known there might be a prize I might have succumbed, but probably not - I thought it would be less fun to be calculating about it.

Southampton v Newcastle 1-2 JOKER

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 7 May 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely tactics are part of the fun?

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 7 May 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I thought I'd just stick with making my best guesses at the games.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 7 May 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry Martin, I try and do that too.

In last week's case I was just doing the equivalent of holding the ball up by the corner flag in the last couple of minutes of a match.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 7 May 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm nostalgic for the days when Zebedee ruled the roost. Well done, Steve, for keeping it going, and thanks for trying to keep our alzheimer's at bay with the complicated bonuses. For the last round I have reverted to my early ludicrous Villa optimism.

Big, big props to Stevem for organising this competition. I've really enjoyed playing...it's been one of the most fun things on ILX. And I like all the wacko quirky bonus stuff too, even tho I've rarely benefited from it!

I'd like to echo the big thanks to Stevem.

As Darren says, looking forward to Euro 2004 edition

Daniel (dancity), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

well that's all - thanks to everyone for taking part, i will publish the updated final scoreboard tomorrow morning (i keep it at work) but let us now praise James Ball for an awesome performance having pretty much sewn it up a few months back. kudos sir, i will send you a congratulatory pint in the post.

currently reluctant to do this again as i have been slack the last few months but i have some ideas on how we can make it more fun and worthwhile (COUGH! MONEY! COUGH!) but we'll see.

i am quite keen on doing a Euro 2004 special tho so look out for that in a few weeks, cheers!

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 16 May 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

http://base58.com/ilx/pp/finaltable04.jpg

note my massive century-breaker score stems from the fact that i got closest to the goal tally bonus (just two away) so that gave me an extra 35 most welcome points. once again congrats to james ball, mark c, mark h and martin skidmore who all qualify for the Champions League. Darren will have to settle for a UEFA Cup spot. Also a shout to Ken who racked up quite an impressive score having only taken part for around a third of the season.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I want a UEFA place via the fair play route.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

you'll be lucky san

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I enter the Intertoto cup?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i was so close!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 May 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Dumb question -- I know the photo behind the final score result, but I don't know the context. Quick explanation?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 May 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It was the Man Utd vs Arsenal game, where the Arsenal players went a bit mental and started picking on and pushing Ruddabout after he'd missed a penalty (which they thought was undeserved)!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 24 May 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I came top one week.
