Handy-dandy little icon generator

this thing is a neat little fun toy to use. What do you look like with it?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i did a screen grab, then dumped it into MS Paint. A friend with photoshop converted it to a LiveJournal icon for me.

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned I saw a transvestite who looked like you this morning. (s)He was riding through Beverly Hills on a bike with an American flag on it.

Please please don't ever wear orange lipstick or pearl earrings.

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, both could have their uses.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I did the screengrab thing, too

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm, how do I do screengrabs on PC?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

control + print screen key

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Usually print screen works. And then paste it into an image editing prog.

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

*tests this* I was denied -- the mouse flickered a bit, nothing more happened, no new files on my desktop. (I'm running Windows XP if that helps.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

print screen, then right click and paste it into paintshop or whatever program you have - save from there

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.idea-inc.com/~bill/tep.gif

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not like a mac. it copies it into the clipboard. you have to paste it into Paint or Photoshop or something first.

(xpost)

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

alt+printscreen captures the current window to the clipboard. ctrl+printscreen captures the whole screen to the clipboard.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I did mine before seeing the explanations for how to do it, so I ended up downloading a screen capture program I could've sworn I already had (must be something I didn't restore when the computer crashed).

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Anime Tep looks like he smokes pot.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess there's no such thing as a well-trimmed beard with this thing!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, got it into MS Paint, turned the rest of the background white, but I can't crop down to a small file size for some reason? (You can tell how often I use graphic programs.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

use the rectangle tool to surround the graphic, copy it, paste it into a new graphic, then save.

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank ya sir.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, hope this works...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I love that the popularity of this thread is due to the fact that no one knows how to participate in it!(self-included)

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I look like Luna with glasses and blue eyes.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

This thing doesn't do unshaven-but-not-really-bearded, and it doesn't do earrings at the top of the ear. Barring those two obstacles, here is my best me using the tool:

http://www.mushrush.com/randomfat/generatedmartin.gif

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

martin, it does "stubble", and you can add "ear cuffs"...

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the stubble looks better on me than the beard does. But I don't have any image software here at work, so you don't get to see me. :(

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

This is quite fun, but I can't figure out how to post it using an iMac. helpeth?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

hahahaha no i'm colorblind!

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

martin, it does "stubble", and you can add "ear cuffs"...
-- Kingfish Beatbox

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. Turns out it even does the ear cuffs on the proper side for me. I have updated my picture so now my rambling about stubble and earrings appears to make no sense in the original post.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Because it doesn't have a "nose" feature, I can't quite get this thing to look like me.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Notice how Kingfish uses glasses and facial hair to construct a nasal illusion.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex grew the beard because when a kid's on the way, shaving is a low priority. Uh, yeah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

c'mon, Jeanne, chop chop with the post post!

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't friggin figure out how to post the stupid thing and I have no desire to read over this post to learn how. Sorry. I can tell you that the cartoon has menacing eyes, scraggly brown hair and is smirking.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The beard comes and goes. I eventually get bored with it and shave the fucker off. But, once the little one arrives, it'll probably go for good (as i don't want to scrape the littlest in-NYCr's scalp with my brillo-pad like chin).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

But you've got to make the baby tough to deal with the WRONGNESS of the WORLD! Or something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

email it to me and I'll post it.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 26 February 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

the email function doesn't work for anybody. that's where the copy/paste bit comes in.

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 February 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You actually have to do a screen capture and then crop it and re-save it as a jpg or whatever. The email thing doesn't work, which is probably better anyhow, because they can't harvest yours for nefarious spam purposes.
