What was the last song you heard sung?

Not a recording, but a live human, amateur or professional.

Two hours ago, I was blessed with a mostly tuneless but very enthusiastic rendition of "Rebel Rebel" done by a crazy man at the 50th St. train station. He was holding two mops. He then boarded my car of the downtown E train, still singing "Rebel Rebel." Wherever he is, he's probably still singing it.

And you?

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

a dude was humming behind me as I opened this thread

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

A busker doing "Don't Look Back In Anger" outside Next.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard a cool new interpretation of an old favorite just this morning on the stairs down to the train, by an toothless lady with a can of Lipton:

"A hundred milligrams of methadone,
Doo-da! Doo-da!
Carol and Dickey sang along,
Dod-da, Doo-day Day!"

She seemed quite pleased with herself.

andy, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a dude who plays a wicked air guitar on his cane to Buddy Holly songs in his head that I see every morning waiting for the bus.

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

My son, doing his best rendition of 'I Want You to Want Me' last night in the car.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Coworkers were singing "She Bangs" at work. GUESS WHO THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. Grr.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm pretty sure that's license to kill them, Dan.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The guy who is standing in for Dermot Murnaghan on BBC Breakfast this morning singing "68 Guns" to Rob Bonnet (sports reporter bloke) in an attempt to explain who the Alarm were.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

It wasn't even intentional! They mentioned Sir Hung and next thing you know it's all "She bangs, she bangs.... ARGH WHY AM I SINGING THIS????" and I was sitting there going, "Dude, let me eat my sesame chicken in peace, I don't want to punch anyone in the crotch today."

(xpost: Ally, that song is in your head because it's one of life's perfect songs.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

however, I'm perfectly happy cockpunching people... Perhaps I should go on a cross-country tour.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

-S

Viva La Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

For some reason "Guess who they were talking about?" made me think "Jesus".

Allyzay, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

which reminded me of my sister saying to me once, when I'd broken up with my boyfriend, "you know who you haven't been talking to?" I said 'who, you?' She said "no, God".

I hung up on her.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, the tone deaf woman who sits next to me was just singing Richard Marx "Right Here Waiting"

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG IMAGINE IF JESUS AUDITIONED FOR "American Idol" AND SANG "She Bangs"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

(I realise that seeing people on the telly doesn't constitute live, but it was fairly unexpected - my real answer should be my husband going "daaaah dah dah daah-dah daaah-dah" in the car this evening which is meant to be Seven Nation Army except that he doesn't know any of the words).

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

See, that's why I don't have a sister.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

JESUS DOING THE HUNG DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Binky.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I love sisters!

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we clear this up right now? IS THAT "SHE BANGS" GUY RETARDED?? Because he LOOKS like he's retarded or mongloid or something. I know he's an engineering student and all, but he looks ... well, retarded.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha "I know he's an engineering student" is the best excuse for mental retardation I've ever heard!!

Allyzay, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed to thread innit.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

thank god I'm not the only one who thinks he looks retarded

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

When someone gave me a baked potato for lunch for some reason rather than say "thank you" or something equivalent instead I busted into the "I FELL IN LOVE WITH A BAKED POTATO" verse from Tenacious D's "Jesus Ranch".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I heart you, nick.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, I mean, I feel awful saying it, but it LOOK AT HIS FACE.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess it's the medication I'm on or something, but I couldn't stop myself from finishing the song, even once I got to the "fluhgwayoomuggagooumgwayayum" bit. Sometimes I think they're right when they call me crazy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, woah, are you saying dude ain't retarded?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought he was too, after I saw the backstage interview with him. Which totally sucks cause now I can't laugh at him.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my housemates doing his own special version of what I think was Justin Timberlake's Love Don't Love Me mixed up with the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Maps as he walked down the stairs.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Now that would be amazing.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The Mountain Goats (and most of the Rocket Bar audience) performing Furniture Huschle's "Terror Song."

mike a, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

A crazy homeless guy singing a song of his own devising:

If you give me quarters I can get a pair of Ni-ih-ih-kes
and you will have beautiful ka-ah-ah-a-ar-ma!

The Second Drummer Drowned (Atila the Honeybun), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Nicole: it was kind of Baby, I want you/ But I guess love don't love me, no/ no, they don't love you like I love you

More because I don't think he could remember all the words to either than any kind of mash-up genius.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

now I'm walking around singing Cry Me A River really loudly! The neighbors prolly think I am done crazy.

Allyzay, Thursday, 26 February 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 26 February 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I hummed a children's song myself, for some unknown reason, when my wife was cutting my hair earlier tonight - "ka-dak põõ-sa juu-re-all/ e-lu-ruum tal sü-ga-val/ka-dak põõ-sa juu-re-all... " (it's about a mole who's having a party and about all the guest who are expected there)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 26 February 2004 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay happy mole!

The Mountain Goats (and most of the Rocket Bar audience) performing Furniture Huschle's "Terror Song."

As many LA ILXors can attest, this is a perfect pleasure of life.

Last song heard sung...not sure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
Ha ha, right as I hit "random" (hey, it's slow at work today) and this thread came up, my colleague just started bellowing "Mysterious girl... I wanna get close to you! Mysterious girl!"

(We were singing competing rain songs earlier. "Hey Mr. Rain" won out over "Have You Ever Seen The Rain")

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Monday, 16 August 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Most likely Sarah singing something about the cats. It's a morning ritual to improvise songs about the cats.

na (Nick A.), Monday, 16 August 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

"Cats, they poop in a box, then cover it up..."

Is this like a couples-in-bands tradition, because Catty and Darren have a song they sing to their cat, too!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Monday, 16 August 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, we don't bust out the guitars or anything. That would just be silly.

na (Nick A.), Monday, 16 August 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

A busker doing "Don't Look Back In Anger" outside Next.

Curiously, that's also the last song I heard sung, by a busker at Caulfield train station.

Dirty Muriel (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

purple patch (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hurricane alison

it is a recording but I like to pretend it's not.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this like a couples-in-bands tradition, because Catty and Darren have a song they sing to their cat, too!

Lending credence to your theory, my boyfriend and I do this as well, and we are in a band together. Haw!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god I do this too. The other morning I was, Adam Sandler style, singing "oh kitty, you came and you did a big poopey"

yes, I'm nuts.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

My friend doing "I want my babybackbabyback"

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 05:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard myself sing "Brown Eyed Girl" this morning. I was good.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I was singing "What is Love?" this morning, because I miss Haddaway.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Same housemate as upthread singing in the shower about half an hour ago. I couldn't tell what it was because of the water running. Possibly Tom Waits 'Coney Island Girl'. He always sings around the house, which is fine because he's got a nice voice, it only creeped me out when he went through a phase of singing Jeff Buckley songs ... in the bath.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i heard someone outside the staffroom window singing the "woo-ooh" 5, 6, 7, 8s song...

...then the other person in the room started singing it about 30 seconds later...
