an ugly person (unfortunately, generally used in reference to women).

also the verb "to ming" ie to be ugly

or indeed the adjective "minging" ie disgusting/horrid

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 February 2004 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

'To ming like a badger' - pejorative, of someone who is nasty, smelly, probably covered in fleas, vicious, lives underground.

minge-Brit. vulgar slang - a woman's pubic hair or genitals
minging-Brit vulgar slang - foul smelling, very bad or unpleasant

I looked this up while watching Coronation Street. I know, I'm the biggest loser ever.

cybele (cybele), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh! I wish I could remember the dirty latin website... it actually comes from the Latin Mingo, Mingere, Minxi, Minctus, which ... IIRC (I could be wrong) means to piss, or something like that.

The River Kate (kate), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oxford says it's of unknown origin...perhaps from 20th C Scottish dialect: ming meaning excrement.

cybele (cybele), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

clarty just means dirty, covered in muck, my mother says it so it can't be rude...

usage:

"eeee, our stephen, how've yer got so clarty, have yer been playing in a fee-yuld or summat like?"

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, there are quite enough really nasty female-specific epithets, without taking away our non-gendered ones. Gah.
