ok, you've probably heard of XFM's 'bounty hunter', where people get famous people to ring in and then they win £10,000.

a (very nice and cool) girl i work with has gotten 1l0yd gr0ssm4n to phone in, and now they're doing online voting for the best phone call.

yeah, it's kind of cheating, but she's promised that if she wins she's going to throw the mother of all parties with the money, and you all can come (if you don't shout at me too much for abuse of ILX)

go to: http://www.xfm.co.uk/article.asp?id=19592 to vote, you can listen to the (apparently funny) phone call from www.xfm.co.uk/breakfast

thanks!

oooh, worth a shot, but some chick got K1efer Sutherl*nd to call in this morning, and given the morning crew's love for 24, he's a shoe in...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

okay I voted even though none of those jokes made sense to me.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't listen. i like my co-worker, and i like free drinks.

plus, i think it's kind of a crap idea for a contest. so i don't mind doing my part to rig it...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

this all reminds me of something......

chris (chris), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

who is lloyd grossman now?

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know how he became famous originally, but he has is own pasta sauce now.

she says he's really nice.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Who lives in a hause like this?

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

he looks like a character the fred armisen would play. anyways, i voted for you and your cause. enjoy the booze.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

where people get famous people to ring in and then they win £10,000.

This is regressive schmoozocracy of the worst kind!

(I have voted for Loyd, just to subvert this, as he's clearly so crap next to Kiefer Sutherland)

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 26 February 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I relieved or disappointed that this thread is not about masturbation?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 26 February 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't imagine anything being funny with Kiefer Sutherland in mind.

Lloyd Grossman on the other hand is fantastic.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, people keep voting! the results are announced on monday, so the contest must end this weekend...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 27 February 2004 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Something that never fails to boggle my noggin is the fact that Grossman used to write for Rolling Stone. He reviewed 'Dark Side of the Moon' in their pages in 1973!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 February 2004 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"Jet Bronx and the Forbidden"

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 February 2004 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

And he wrote a book in 1976 called 'A Social History of Rock: from the Greasers to the Glitter Kids'. For this alone he deserves our vote.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 February 2004 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I do believe he moved here from Bawstawrrrrrrrn to be the London correspondent for Crawdaddy.

Early '90s students plus weed plus Masterchef equals MUNCHIES.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 27 February 2004 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

so he was on masterchef?

i'm so clearly only about this free party, not about the guy. is that wrong?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Lloyd is a big hero of mine, obviously

chris (chris), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

done my bit, however:

NB: Only one vote is allowed per person, per day. Any evidence of malpractice to manipulate the competition results will mean disqualification. The judges decision is final.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

They have a clickable envelope to Send This Page To A Friend, so I don't think posting a link here can count as malpractice.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

There's got to be an easier way to win a free party. Quick! Someone release an album!

Let's do it! Why not? Me and Cis will quickly whip up an album, Colette can be the outrageous frontwoman, and Suzy will engineer our Machiavellan rise to success, and we'll sign to a major for the scam, and then we'll have ALL THE FREE DRINKS WE CAN HANDLE!!! WOOOOOOO!!!

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

hehehe, see all the old arguments come flooding out now ;)

"well if they didn't want us to fix it, they shouldn't have made it so easy to fix"

"it's not our fault steps fans don't all have PCs"

i do think that one moment changed all interweb-related voting for ever though (in the UK, anyway), hence disclaimers like the one above...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

what does being an 'outrageous frontwoman' involve? does that mean cool outfits? if so, i'm in.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Hoho! Too right! (Haha Steve sorry for running out in a grump last night, I blame the BUDVAR)

Sarah (starry), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool outfits and BAD BAD (good bad, but not evil) shoes, Colette. I can so see this. EMI will be footing the bill (heh) for our parties this time next year! ;-)

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 27 February 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

rock on.

so is that like publicity? what's my job? besides badass shoes...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 27 February 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

should have gotten momus to phone.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 February 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I've just done the right thing and voted for Lloyd, tho I'm going with the "lets get free drinks by signing our souls to EMI" plan meself. Can I add the do the hot guitar licks?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 27 February 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Done!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 February 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

(haha, it's OK petal :))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 February 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

:-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 February 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

HANG ON !! *! !

I pop out for lunch, get back and find you've all signed to EMI records? Where's me share?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Lloyd's pasta sauces are great.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Peter Andre phoned in TWICE! Milking it or what?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

IT'S 'LOYD'

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

IT'S 'DASTOR'

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Well no, it isn't.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

It is "it's", isn't it.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

What is?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

"It's", rather than "Its"

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not Loyd is it?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it's "Loyd"

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

But where did you see 'its' without the apostrophe, Mark??

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

through the keyhole?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't, was just confirming how correct it all was.

Or, just trying to get pos:50 in the user tables...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)
