Today I have been mostly humming...

Belle and Sebastian, The Stars of Track and Field, everytime I see the Underwear thread (Especially the first time he sings "body" and uses a consonant that's somewhere on the d-t spectrum but is neither one nor the other nor imbetween. Co-linear).

And Tainted Love.

What's stuck in your head today?

Graham, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Linger', as of writing to the Cranberries thread a couple of minutes ago.

the pinefox, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yesterday I had that Sven Goran Eriksen thing. Today it's yours.

mark s, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that supermen lovers tune

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Black Sheep's "For Doz That Slept" after uploading it to tha GrokePile.

Tom, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

PARTY HARD by Andrew WK mixed in with HEY BABY by DJ OTZI after MJ pointed out they are exactly the same - but one being infintely more scary.

Sarah, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Andrew WK is rubbish.

RickyT, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Takeover by Jay-Z. Now I'm listening to St. Etienne to clear it out.

Ally, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Heeeeeeeey baby! Party hard! We like to Party!!!

Sarah, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Suddenly The Manics' Suicide Is Painless, god help me.

Graham, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Roots bloody roots' - Sepultura 'Don't stop movin' - S Club 7 Mendelsohn's (sp?) Violin Concerto California Uber Alles - Dead Kennedys (-ies?)

Related point: when humming a tune, do you find it morphing into another one? E.g. 'nothing ever lasts for ever' (E+Bunnymen) segues smoothly into 'river deep, mountain high'...

Will, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A Galactic Heroes song, Sum 41...that's it really.

james, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, now I'm thinking Suicide is Painless. Damnit. *does the air guitar thing for the rock out part*

Ally, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

NERD's "Lapdance". And "Run to the Sun". And on the way home, I rediscovered "Slanted & Enchanted" as driving music.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Young girl get out of my life. . ."\

arrggghh!

Samantha, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Now I'm humming that spoken word thing of Belle & Sebastians (the bassline), Delta 5, (the bassline) and We Like To Party by the Vengaboys! Curse you Andrew "Otzi" WK. Party hard!

Sarah, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Today I have been mostly humming the music that plays when you're in the queue for Professor Burp's Bubble Works at Chessington World Of Adventures.

jamesmichaelward, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Am I thinking of Shoot the Sexual Athlete? The one that rambles on about being a fan of the Go-Betweens and making button badges of Pere Ubu and the Sugarcubes (although it would be so much better if they'd said the Sugababes).

Sarah, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Damn you, Samantha. What is a Union Gap anyway?

This thread is really unsafe to read.

Tom, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aaah-ah-ReGINA!

RickyT, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Red Red Wi-i-i-ne"

mark s, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This is cold. I will have the Sugarcubes stuck in my head all day now. Why couldn't it have been "Birthday"?

Nicole, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry Nicole. It was Regina because I saw it a couple of days ago on some old Indie Top Video that Amos picked up for a couple of quid at the boot fair. I think the four good tracks just about made it worthwile(Eardrum Buzz, 3rd Time We Opened The Capsule, Mercy Seat, Regina), but there was a right load of old toss on there. Anyone remember Bradford or The Fuzztones?

RickyT, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I remember Bradford -- Morrissey wuved them, the loon.

Nicole, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'I'm In Love With A Girl' by Big Star, inspired by the crush thread on ILE and the Big Star thread on ILM.

Andrew L, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dear Lord, Bradford! I have a collection of early singles sitting around that I found for a buck, and by god -- they liked the Smiths, didn't they?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh yes. And judging from that video there were a hell of a lot of other third rate post-Smiths janglers clogging up the indie chart in 1989.

RickyT, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Brand-New-Life' by Young Marble Giants.
dum-de-dumm... "pain is with me everydayyyy / when you went itcametostay / n'now your lonely tooo / sit at home n' watch the toob" mmmMMMMM, dum duwwn, dum-de-duuuwn...

thanx to my hour-old stint at the "Odyssey Niteclub" in the Provincial, i have "It Wasn't Me" by Shaggy going around and around in my head and it won't stop.

di, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My history teacher unknowingly said something about a general store, so I had Momus's U.S. Knitting stuck in my head for half an hour during which I was quite furious because that is up in the five most annoying songs I've ever heard. Other than that it's been mostly Brainwashed by the Kinks because I was listening to it earlier.

Maria, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Note to self: Never EVER tape The Jam and play it during long train rides. Your friends will ask you what you are humming. It is "Aunties & Uncles".

Helen Fordsdale, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby, Kirsty MacColl version. I've got new pants on and am feeling extra adorable.

Graham, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Baby Blue/13th Floor Elevatah's version.

helenfordsdale, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tara's song = bleargggggh. There there my dear is firmly lodged in my head today, despite not having heard it for oooh at least a week.

RickyT, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Graham I am singing GOING THROUUUUGH THE MOTIONS from Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Musical!

Today a MOOMIN appeared in my flat so of course I sang "I've got a theory, that its a Moomin! A dancing Moomin! No somethings not quite right here!" and I found it VERY VERY FUNNY!!!

The song that is MOSTLY stuck in my head though is WAR! (duh duh duh dduhduh) WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? (dum dum!) etc etc etc.

Sarah, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"spread beneath my willow tree": k-blimey o'reillyXoR that's a bit um TMI (i haf still not seen this so NO MORE SPOILAZ pse)

mark s, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden

Dead Embroyonic Cells - Sepultura

j>e>l, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a curious mix of Una Paloma Blanca and Moonriver. I am hearing both at once. It's fucked up. That and occasionally an odd mix of Who Let The Dogs Out followed immediately by It Wasn't Me. Just, like the title phrases, joined together in comedy. In my head. Please, get them out soon.

alix, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the bloody sodding theme tune to Only bloody sodding fools and bloody sodding horses as someone here has it on an "amusing" trailer thing on their computer, bloody sod.

katie, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Mark, you do not want to see what they're *doing* during that line)

Graham, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Today a MOOMIN appeared in my flat

Do you live inside Mark's head?

Rick, Tara's song rocks the twelfth time you here it. There's a bit of a barrier around the third and fourth, I'll admit.

Graham, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

At work I found myself singing: "my name is mr. rock,n,roll, and i know that you want my body"

j>e>l, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just read this thread title as 'Today I have been mostly hummus'.

Sarah, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Today I have mostly been boiled in salted water.

SPROUT, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

chris, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry Cabbage :)

FRIED EGG BUTTIE, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hard to Explain". I really like it now. I liked it before for a while, then I didn't like it very much, and now I like it again.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Drive" by The Cars; since Valentine's day, I've been crooning it.

Mandee, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my flatmate was playing a record which ahd a cover of the avengers' "love-hate revenge" on it. i think it was the terminals or sumpin. since then i keep thinkin about it. also "turning brown and torn in two" by the tall dwarfs and you yesyesyes by the residents. but i don't really hum anyway i whistle...badly.

di, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to congratulate the pinefox on his October "Linger" humming. That song gets in my head too, but when I begin to hum it, I find the melody impossible and elusive.

Today it was actually that punky song where a woman shouts at the top of her lungs in a piercing shriek on every line and the chorus goes something like "something something.. I'm YOURS!" or alternately "something something.. UP YOURS!" I have no idea what this song is or who it's by.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"I want to show you a picture I made, its red and black and blue and pencil!
I want to show you a picture I made, I really think that its quite nice to look at!"

I've never actually heard the real version of this song, I've just got it in my head from Maryann singing it to me yesterday.

rainy, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hashpipe mostly, with an unfortunate smattering of that new Alanis song.

Graham, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank you Di!! (all punkZoR heave huge "jesus wept" sigh I'm sure)

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I Should Be So Lucky? I found the lyrics much too difficile! I Should Be So Lucky times one million.

helenfordsdale, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"You Love Us" by them there Manics. What a chorus!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three months pass...
We Plough The Fields And Scatter (Primary Skool Kids Mix)

Graham, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Um, that song by Fat Joe. I forget what it's called...

Nicole, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing at present. This will change. Though last night was the first night that I heard "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" that I went away from it happily humming the hook, though that could have been because of the weird-ass sound levels at where I was hearing it that meant the only thing I could hear was said hook. Lack of Gwen = a very good thing.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gwen doesn't sound terrible (for once!) on this track, the whiney quality to her voice was neutralized somewhat.

Nicole, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Procession of Popular Capitalism by McCarthy! Also The Vision Of Peregrine Worsthorne! AND fecking Young at Heart by the Bluebells. Feck feck feck. And other selections from 'Alternative 80s' which me and CWM were looking through last night. I might haf to be a sheep and buy it.

Sarah, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Italian National Anthem (superb) since 12:30.

Richard Jones, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Uh, Ned? The main hook in "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" IS Gwen.

I've been humming "Kittens" for two days now, interspersed with "Addictive", "Illuminate" and the bass line from the fugue in the Kyrie of Mozart's Requiem. PHEAR ME.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Daydream Believer now!

Sarah, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Today every song on the radio sounds like it has the exact same chords as "If I Could Turn Back Time"

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"its that same old song" - the four tops

Dave M., Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Some soccer song that has seeped its way into my subconscious, but I'm not sure if it's the Chicago Fire MLS song, the USA song, or even the Korea song. I just find myself humming it involuntarily.

felicity, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The main hook in "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" IS Gwen.

I'm talking about that synth hook or whatever the hell it is that's there right from the start. Ms. Stefani is irrelevant. ;-)

I should also note that I have yet to hear anything in Eve herself that excites me much, but there's taste for ya.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
at the risk of inciting ridicule,

Scenes From an Italian Restaurant Billy Joel, 70s phase when he thought he was Italian instead of a once nice Jewish boy from Long Island and now apparently drug-addled alcoholic so out of control he embarrasses Elton John. Nonetheless, few lines are as evocative as

riding around with the car top down and the radio on...

Skottie, Sunday, 26 October 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

For the past week, I have alternated between I Should Be So Lucky, Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side and the Pigeon Street theme tune.

Whoever said that everything on the radio has the chords to If I Could Turn Back Time is so OTM.
