Asterisks for the polite.

No debate, surely it is beyond argument, but please use this space to vent yr ire. They're on the work CD and its driving me nuts. Bonus pts for descriptions of extreme physical unpleasantness.

Will, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the venom in the last freaky-trigger focus group pretty much summed it all up for me.

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was displeased that my evil comments about Toploader got cut from the focus group, something about wanting to see their severed heads dancing in the moonlight. They're awful, worse than Moldplay even.

Nicole, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, this is a problem actually with having the Nicest Man In The World editing the focus group - his reasonableness and charity extends even to Toploader!

Tom, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe we should ask that all comments run. Then vileness will be unconstrained.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Speaking of which, have the new focus group ballots got sent out yet? Do I get one?

Sterling Clover, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry, this time is around is the Anti-Sterling Focus Group. We're going to find out your favorite songs and then laugh at them.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The interesting thing about Coldplay is that pretty much every single song they've got that isn't "Yellow" is either adequate or very good. It's only "Yellow" which reeks of navel-gazing smugness. God, I hate that song.

Toploader: shit sandwich or seeping cold sore?

Dan Perry, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

New ballots will go out start of November but I've not sent the final songs list to Mike yet, even. Nobody will be excluded except for rockists as per.

Tom, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dan, you obviously haven't lived in a country where *every* time something vaguely emotional happens on TV...BADAHBA BADA BAAAAH, BADAHBA BADA BAAAH... IIIIIOOOOAAAAAAAAARGGGGH NEVER MEANT TO CAUSE YOU TRUUUUUUUUBUUULLL....

Graham, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I seem to remember the Focus Group III had some words about how if you thought you'd know most of the songs, you shouldn't have any problems getting on the next one (I meant to, and then arsedness- related issues stopped me). The website for Focus Group IV seems to suggest a serious publishing record is required. Story?

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nobody will be excluded except for rockists as per

And me, don't forget.

Nick, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm UK based, and sadly i find myself agreeing with Dan and not Graham, and that is causing me trouble on this issue.

gareth, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i have just noticed that Dan didn't just put 'adequate', but 'very good' too. this i cannot agree with. adequate will suffice

gareth, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am now afeared that high altitude exposure to the witchy rays of the cosmos have addled Gareth's brain on his trips to and from America.

RickyT, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah Nick has a life ban. But as an emo kid he's rockist anyway.

Andrew - sorry, the maintenance of the f.group franchisee list changed hands between III and IV!

Tom, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, I think "trouble" is the bad one and everything else (including Yellow) is either adequate or very good.

Graham, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It would be fantastic to be banned, I would probably be banned for having the temerity to dislike Eminem.

Nicole, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Just for that Nicole will never be banned ever.

Tom, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Go sniff up some mucous and leave me be.

Nicole, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nonono, it's not mucous that Tom sniffs, it's pre-mucous. The distinction is important.

RickyT, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It smells sort of like the opposite of Vaporub.

Tom, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

five years pass...

This really is the most indefensible shit ever.

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 14 October 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

dan perry going to bat for coldplay?!

Just got offed, Sunday, 14 October 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

God! Toploader are over! The naysayers won! They got laffed out of town!

Leave them alone now. They have too many problems.

Mark G, Monday, 15 October 2007 09:28 (eighteen years ago)

Dom revives the thread that had to be revived

Wasn't one of'em on Neverminds the Buzzcocks? Y'know the round of "guess the hasbeens" ?

nathalie, Monday, 15 October 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

one of them (D4n Hipgr4ve, G4il Port3r's ex) is now a travel journalist for, er, one of the London freesheets. why he's an authority on Turkish spa holidays is anyone's guess.

CharlieNo4, Monday, 15 October 2007 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

Wasn't one of'em on Neverminds the Buzzcocks? Y'know the round of "guess the hasbeens" ?

Yes - the bass player Matt Knight. First programme of series 19.

snoball, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

series 19

!

onimo, Monday, 15 October 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

Toploader actually aren't/weren't as bad as "never mind the buzzcocks". Admittedly that's like saying "here, eat this plate of steaming shit" vs "here, eat this plate of steaming shit with broken glass in it", but still. "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" is the worst thing I have ever seen on TV (incl bid-up TV and QVC)
