B61 (calstars), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Was ROTK subtitled "Revenge of the Nerds"?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It was implicit. Thank you for noticing. Cry Milo cry! ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I'm just thankful that it was a LOTR sweep instead of Lost in Translation.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahahaha (I really wish the LOTRs hadn't been a total suckfest so I could gloat too, but really it sucked. . . and PETER JACKSON you should be ASHAMED FOR SAYING that Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles didn't deserve OSCARS. They deserve them a hell of a lot more than this badly acted CGI fantasy crap.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

What in the world are you people complaining about? I love Meet the Feebles more than almost anything and I don't mind the comment at all, you act like he's shat in your mouth. Relax.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Watching LOTR was like having him metaphorically shit in my eye sockets. Close enough anyway.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

*shrugs* If it makes ya happy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It clearly didn't, Ned. It made me very very sad.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I just woke up. I missed the damned Oscars. And nobody left any cookies for me!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 1 March 2004 06:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Good to see that ROTK won, though!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 1 March 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

god. lotr definitely did not deserve all the praise. oh boy, another epic winning best picture, i cant believe it.
(i would have prefered ANY of the other 4 to win)

todd swiss (eliti), Monday, 1 March 2004 07:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I hated RotK, but it's mainly because Peter Jackson didn't cast himself as one of the hobbits. Never has there been a more hobbit like director. The films have made approximately one brazilian dollars. Can't he afford a shirt that circumnavigates his enormous waist?

Skottie, Monday, 1 March 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think that gross would buy you much, actually, not even in Brazil.

Allyzay, Monday, 1 March 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

A google search for "littlest hobbit" turns up disturbing things.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 1 March 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

He's a brazilionaire?

winterland, Monday, 1 March 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright, I give. What's disturbing? All I found is a baby picture and some slash.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 1 March 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought LOTR was great. Read the books when I was ten, and have reread them many times. And before you start with that Speedy must be a nerd crap, Fuck Off.

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Monday, 1 March 2004 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

YER I AGREE THE BOOKS ARE AMAZING, IM READIG IT FOR THE FOURTH TIME AND IM ONLY 17!
I LOVED THE MOVIES ALSO!

gaol clichy (clichy), Monday, 1 March 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

GOOD LUCK HAVING SEX IN COLLEGE!

Allyzay, Monday, 1 March 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooooh....just got really cold in here.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 March 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It is perhaps a truer sentiment than some of us would care to admit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 March 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ROTK is just about the worst film I've ever seen at a cinema. Truly atrocious... the marriage of Ziggy and that woman was too laughable for words... awful... awful... awful. What was he thinking?

Charles Dexter (Holey), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ziggy Evenstar?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

But what if Frodo had turned to the hobbits when he sailed off on the ship and said "Not only is this the last part of the quest but it's the last quest I'll ever do," and then started singing about rock and roll suicides while Orlando played guitar a la Mick Ronson?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

'while Orlando played guitar a la Mick Ronson?'

He had the hair

pete s, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

PRECISELY my point.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

And then Elijah could go down on the guitar and...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

WELL OBVIOUSLY THAT WOULD BE GREAT WTF ARE YOU EVEN ASKING THAT FOR???

Wait, no, it wouldn't, because it'd still involve Elijah Wood and that one single face he makes.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrange for a last minute substitution.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

please please say "with Christian Bale"

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

You got it! "Now Christian played guitar..."

Anyway, there is geek and there is GEEK -- scroll down to the 'Related' section, click on 'Rings fans rejoice' and see what I could have done last night if I had paid $125 about a month ago. Even I have my limits.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Frodo could sing 'Lady Stardust' to Galadriel

pete s, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

ned, do you ren-faire or RPG?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Now that I'm thinking about this, it's not like Velvet Goldmine was a bastion of tight, controlled movie making either, this idea is shit.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Velvet Goldmine made the crucial error of subbing Eddie Izzard in for hobbits.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

ned, do you ren-faire or RPG?

Absolutely the fuck not. Horrible idea.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

medievel times?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(Actually that was a bit kneejerk because I had my happy D&D youth -- I did not, however, ever get tempted to do the medieval dress-up horribleness and after dealing with roommates at UCLA who were addicted to that and had an unhinged grasp of reality, whatever slight impulse I had towards that being a good idea died.)

xpost - no, fuck Medieval Times. And Excalibur in Vegas.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

ned, you seem uneasy. maybe i can cast a calming spell on you.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I know someone who ren faires.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus God.

http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00006FD8H.03.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

(Yes, that is Tom Hanks on the left.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I know someone who ren faires.

please tell me!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I know someone who rents fairies.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

That's Madhur Jaffrey on the right.

pete s, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

it's my sister, gygax :(

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I had friends in high school who had summer jobs at the local Renaissance Festival. And my stepbrother used to work there for years.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

it's my sister, gygax :(

Eep. My condolences.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

according to snooty BBC reporting Peter Jackson read through the phone book thanking everyone in new Zealand, so now I feel a warm glow of pride (anytime, Pete)

isadora (isadora), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

oh my god, now I have to see cold mountain:

"Ah marry you. Ah marry you. Ah marry you."

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

that was the funniest part of the night, hands down.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I know someone who ren faires.

This coincidentally came in email today:

Allyzay, Wednesday, 3 March 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread has taken a scary turn.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Only one thing to say.

HUZZAH!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

There's like 20 photograhs just like it in various positions, such as performing archery and sitting in front of faux castles :( :( :(

Allyzay, Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus H. It might be a phase...but I know people who have been in that phase for almost 20 years, so judge wisely.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)
