Wot a great and highly addictive show!

me.

Chris V (Chris V), Monday, 1 March 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I really and truly hope those two guys are a couple.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 1 March 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It is pretty good, though I'm wondering if and when Snopes is going to have her show.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 1 March 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw an all day marathon of this show over Xmas. The one about eating poppy seed bagels testing positive for heroin on corporate drug tests was terrifying!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 1 March 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

that's an awesome show. I'm jealous of Adam Savage's art, for it is brilliant (http://www.adamsavage.com/)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Monday, 1 March 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I also liked the one where they painted the beret guy gold all over like Ursula Andress to see if he would die.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 1 March 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it too. They're such nerds, like HUGE GIANT NERDS, the likes of which have never been seen on the tube outside of the CBC, but it's a great show.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 1 March 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a great show. My Dad records it on his Tivo so that we can watch it when I'm visiting him. Mythbusters and Modern Marvels.

I really and truly hope those two guys are a couple.

I always get the platonic life partner vibe when I'm watching the show.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Monday, 1 March 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I love this show too. I like when they get giddy.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 1 March 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

the only two shows i go out of my way to watch are this and Curb Your Enthusiasm

my heart was beating so hard last night when they burried Jamie alive. i'm soooo claustrophobic

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 1 March 2004 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
I'm so glad there is a thread about this show. I am severely obssessed with this show.

I love the snarky narrator making fun of Adam. I love that the Adam/Jamie relationship grows more and more into a serene and invincible sensei/bumbling student relationship, though I imagine Adam does not. When Adam beat Jamie in the needle in a haystack race I was actually filled with pride for him.

I love the build team. I love that when they were checking whether talking to plants improves them, Kari called them "stupid freshman peas." I love that Scottie (who I have a crush on, I will admit this) has the ability to weld, forge and occaisionally breathe fire (the balloons floating a four year old episode).

Until I discovered Mythbusters I was getting my TV for gigantic nerds fix from Good Eats on the food network. Nothing blows up on good eats, there are no hot tattooed fire breathing welder girls on Good Eats. Mythbusters is to Good Eats what Crack is to Fruitopia.

Ash (ashbyman), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

i've seen the redhead girl (Kari?) a few times out at parties. her boyfriend is a rad artist named Paul Urich that's friends with some of my friends

here's a stoney video of him http://www.fecalface.com/johntrippe/urich.html

JaXoN Hole (JasonD), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

BEST SHOW EVERZ

ddb (ddb), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

They should get invovled with some Crowely-stylee ritual magick to see if one can really invoke enochian angels or not.

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

It is pretty good, though I'm wondering if and when Snopes is going to have her show.

Snopes is a she? Well, I'll be.

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 4 March 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

I saw the "Straight Dope" show once, but it suffered from CECIL ADAMS' AVERSION TO ACTUALLY APPEARING ON IT. Not a recipe for success.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Snopes is a she? Well, I'll be.

Snopes is a he. His myth-fighting partner Barbara is a she.

Here's a Myth Busted: both Jamie and Adam are married,,, to women. i've hung out with Kari a few times now and she's a super rad girl. she lives down the block from my brother.

Its funny everyone talks about their platonic coupley relationship because in actuality, the Mythbusters guys dislike each other immensely off the show. Seriously, I read an interview with them where they admitted they really don't get on terribly well and just tolerate each other for the show's dynamic.

Trayce, Thursday, 6 December 2007 23:52 (seventeen years ago)

Dude yeah Adam's giggly extrovert manic dudeical geek and Jamie's this dude who seems to really dig solving puzzles but keeping to himself. Plus he's clearly a total bear.

Boy, if that's as profound as the guy gets my impression of Mythbusters as science and "engineering" for people who got C's in science and work at Radio Shack is OTM.

I'd be embarrassed to come up with these:

But there are times when innovation produces aggravation, and when that happens, technology can flat out drive us nuts.

Times, eh?

Computer operating systems loaded with stuff I don't want and will never use.

Naw, surely he shits us!

Why not start with a computer loaded with basic stuff that works 100 percent of the time?

Oooooh, first time I've read that. Today.

Gorge, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:03 (seventeen years ago)

I'm embarrassed for you anyway.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:13 (seventeen years ago)

It is kind of annoying though the way he throws in the phrase "feature bloat" and then says, "Why not start with a computer loaded with basic stuff that works 100 percent of the time?" Well, because of feature bloat. There's a reason why it happens, has to do with the business of selling operating systems instead of hardware, look it up. Or just think about it for a second.

He's otm about Ubuntu, though, I love it and it has not failed me yet.

I would be so sad if that was how my genitals looked.

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:41 (seventeen years ago)

i used to like the show until:
1.they ran out of good ideas.
2.i realized they are annoying, esp. Adam, who is too nerdy-obsessive to handle, and tends to laugh hystericly , and for no reason,at anything that goes wrong or right on the experiments.

Zeno, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)

I know, can you imagine how terrible he'd be on cocaine?

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

it's a nightmare to imagine it

Zeno, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

isn't he already?

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

luv em, but they can be annoying and it's annoying when they screw one up. like, they had a candle in front of a big woofer and said it's true, the sound blew out the candle! no way. big woofers move air. the air blew out the candle.

andrew m., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:48 (seventeen years ago)

The vodka one was silly, esp. the bit where they tested to see if it helped poison oak.

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

he wouldnt do drugs - it's illegal.
xxpost

Zeno, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

as annoying as adam is, i have no time at all for the intrepid team of mr. wizard nerdling lackeys

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

andrew, you realize sound is just travelling fluctuations in fluid pressure, right?

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

so yeah, the sound blew out the candle.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

and of course they play pretty loose with the definition of myth.

no one could jump a car real far off of a dirt ramp! what a myth!

andrew m., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

hahahaha OTM

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

Would be better as a half-hour show, with just the walrus, Kari and the non-Asian nerdling lackey

milo z, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

Can you solve a myth?

On the Discovery Channel channels in Europe, this is part of the text of the advertisement for the show:
"Meet Adam and Jamie. They're on a mission to solve urban myths."

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 August 2014 02:33 (eleven years ago)

Feels logical that they would end up doing something else since their segments always were kinda separate from the Jamie/Adam bits, but they could have left ages ago. Why now?

StanM, Friday, 22 August 2014 06:38 (eleven years ago)

I can't recall offhand any segment where they ever interacted personally with Adam and Jamie. Their segments really were like a show within a show.

You're right, but why is that? Strictly a production decision, or something else?

fields of salmon, Friday, 22 August 2014 07:08 (eleven years ago)

Weird. I was watching this with the fam a couple nights ago and it struck me that it was about time these people (any of the cast, not Kari, Grant, and Tory specifically) would go off and do other things with their careers.

I know Adam does side project stuff as he goes and Jamie's still got his core business.

I can't recall offhand any segment where they ever interacted personally with Adam and Jamie. Their segments really were like a show within a show.

This happened more often earlier on but as it got more established, it went from there -- the M7 mentioned in the link is the separate studio space from M5 that was eventually set up when the show got more popular.
