Anyone know a good country hotel near London. Ideally a place that you could stay the weekend just eating, drinking and generally crashing out...

Nutfield Priory, near Redhill, Surrey, is lovely - a favourite weekend retreat of myself and Mr Mog. http://www.handpicked.co.uk/NutfieldPriory/NuffieldPriory.php - check the Special Offers section as they often have deals for £99 for a room at weekends.

oh crikey there's one somewhere out near Oxford with themed rooms (ie some have the jacuzzi at the end of the bed. I';ll find out the name from colleagues.

Right, colleague recommends a place called the Crazy bear near Oxford, in particular the tollhouse, which is a separate cottage which comes complete with jukebox, huge tv which follows you around the room and a bed in the loft.

in his words "you take a woman there and you're in clover for a month"

which is good, if you like clover of course

I was going to take you there for your 30th Chris, but it was too expensive! They've got a nasty website that doesn't let you leave by going back, grr.

you'd have been in Clover for a month pet.

six years pass...

Revive. Looking for a cheap...ish place to stay within two/three hours from London. Would prefer wild countryside to new towns and gastropubs
