Repairing shoes yourself

My shoes are falling to pieces (the uppers are becoming detached from the soles). I've only had them for a year or so, but too long to return.

Is it worth trying to repair shoes yourself (with glue or something), or should I go to a professional? Don't they massively overcharge you for two minutes' work?

If anyone here has ever tried to fix their own shoes, what products would you recommend?

Superglue? Staples?

Man, shoe repair is one of the cheapest things in the world. I'm shocked at how little it cost sometimes. Bring them in and have it done right, it'll cost less than $10.

Shoe repair is the bomb. It's like the last thing in the world that costs what it should.
