the greyhound between sf and portland seems to go along the pch through crescent city. has anyone done this? (there is a faster route inland that goes via redding, but the former looks more interesting)

The Greyhound follows Northbound Hwy 101, not Hwy 1 (the PCH)... it's a beautiful trip through the tall redwoods, but it's pretty slow. The other thing to remember is that a lot of people on the Northbound will be visitors to Pelican Bay, America's largest maximum security prison. And Southbound will often be people just released from Pelican Bay - arch enemies in the joint, now cast together on the bus. Makes for an interesting ride sometimes.

But it's a beautiful drive. Have you looked into Green Tortoise between SF and Portland? That can be fun too, they stop along the river, etc.

Well, there's Bodega Bay and Point Reyes. Or Wine Country?

drive thru tree! drive thru tree!

there is also a larger than life-sized seal statue at an aquarium store in crescent city.

and once you get to portland you can go to this really cool park just outside of the city and climb really high waterfalls.

and america's smallest municipal park is in portland.

pictures available upon request. (real ones, before my digital camera existed)

yeah you can drive through the middle of a giant sequoia. But not in a Greyhound bus.

is april too wet for oregon/washington?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

pretty much.. although it's more on and off downpours with more beautiful majestic hindsight views of the clouds, rather than just a consistent grey wet tunnel that December and January feel like. If we get any thunderstorms in the NW, April would be the month. Basically, bigger clouds, bigger storms, but less often.

(weather here is pretty much like the UK, as you've heard)
