i've always found it remarkably sexist that men can't wear skirts without reprisals. when Amelia Bloomer was cast out of polite society for daring to invent trousers it was bad enough - more than 100 years later we should know better. UP WITH MANSKIRTS!!! say i.

apart from david beckham in a sarong. that is beach wear.

do you wear skirts anthony?

katie, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Do kilts count? Kilts = yummy scrummy.

Madchen, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i wear skirts , mostly sarongs, sometimes kilts, sometimes others

Every time I've visited Scotland I've been asked if I'll wear a kilt. I have no desire to be mocked as yet Another Idiotic American Tourist by those who actually live there.

This said, the UCI newspaper once voted me 'best legs' two years running, so perhaps a skirt of some sort would help show them off. ;-)

I was wandering around an art gallery once, y'know, minding my own affairs, and I chanced upon this old gimmer, he had white hair, grey shirt, sandals and a tight denim skirt. I was non-plussed.

The only men I 've seen in the US wearing skirts are dodgy Depeche Mode types. dud.

Samantha, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What the estimable Mr Easton said.

Hey, thanks!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

in fiji if youre a man and you dont wear a skirt then its considered highly rude. except of course they are called skirts....ive forgotten the name. on a sunday you have to put on youre smartest blue skirt to go to church.

ambrose, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

surely the thing holding us back is pete baran-type leg-shavage?

mark s, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jas Mann from Babylon Zoo used to wear a skirt. He carried it off quite nicely I thought. Much better than (ugh) Nicky Wire at least. I suppose a long skirt wouldn't be so bad, though I'm not sure I could carry one off. I've nothing against the idea, it's just normally, in practice, they look dumb.

jamesmichaelward, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hold up Mark, I have never shaved my legs (quick, runs off to shaved leg thread to see if I lied). Nope that was someone else.

Why is everyone mixing me up with other people today. RickyT I didn't mind but....

My three year old nephew wears his sister's skirts and dresses sometimes. It's cute! I should buy him a kilt for Christmas, though my parents might not be too keen.

rosemary, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This has been covered before.

Basically only men who enjoy looking like attention-seeking morons wear skirts, kilts, or any variation thereof.

DV, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(those best able to substantiate p.baran's dubious protestations — eg his flatmate and the man he is allegedly being confused with — have mysteriously ceased to post since the issue first arose)

miss marple, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wouldn't wear a skirt...Why?

I would not want to inflict my pale, skinny legs on the general population.

james, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ie vanity combined with laziness (ie same as me)

mark s, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have no moral objection but I only think they're really classic if the man wearing one has nice legs (in which case it should be as short as possible).

Maria, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom Barman (dEUS) used to wear a skirt... or rather a dress on stage a few centuries ago. Of course I would prefer it if he were naked, but still... he was dead sexy in that dress.

nathalie, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wanna see Tom Brokaw in a skirt with toilet paper traling

Mike Hanle y, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Men should wear skirts.

toraneko, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dune, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i spelt my name wrong, it's

duane, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fine, so I'm an attention-seeking moron. Pretty accurate, well done.

Ally C, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
