and 4 more ... and 3... and 2 ... and don't forget to breathe.

Dearest ILE,

I have decided to try to make myself do my own punk rock aerobics to avoid paying for a gym. I am talking me, by myself, in my living room, listening to music and dancing along to old Cindi Crawford workouts or something.

So, if you think it might be fun, perhaps you could throw together a workout mix (20-30 minutes) for me - up to 4 could fit on one 80min cd if you were feeling particularly inspired. You could mix different songs together to be fancy, or just put full tracks on there that you think would be fun.

Just email me for my addy if you don't already have it.

Thanks ever so kindly,
Sarah McLusky

Let TAD be your inspiration!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Betty Boo is indeed u&k.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

TAD = heliot (peel session version) (sorry steve albini!)

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all about the Bad Brains - the faster the beat, the more hearty the workout. Omit the reggae songs (but who doesn't?)

Also, "The Immigrant Song" on a loop. "Eye of the Tiger" is good too.

andy, Monday, 1 March 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i cannot imagine WORSE workout music than TAD ... except maybe CROWBAR.

I most certainly could not resist :)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Monday, 1 March 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

but seriously, it works. go Mcluskies!

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Monday, 1 March 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course, Donna. :-) Thus, my name. I wish they'd come to Chicago. I'd let them sleep at my apartment! (Nick wouldn't mind, right? ha ha)

My anti-fat revolution starts tonight.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

they're playing Seattle in June, so Chicagoland can't be far off. Good luck w/the workout!

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
Remember back when I was so young and naive and thought I would be working out all the time? Well, it makes the floors creak too much in my apartment, so I've just been walking alot. But now I have a mini ipod and still need good walking down the sidewalk looking tough music, so send it my way, pretty please.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Back in Black would be prefect, I think.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:33 (twenty years ago)

WE HAVE BACK IN BLACK OMG SARAH YOU SHOULD PUT IT ON YR IPOD!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:34 (twenty years ago)

I really like Boston's first album for working out. "Appetite for Destruction" is also essential.

Gold Teeth II (kenan), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, do you like The Jesus Lizard?

My Dinner With Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Hee hee. Yes. Jesus Lizard makes you feel hard every time.

Gold Teeth II (kenan), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:36 (twenty years ago)

We also have a Jesus Lizard album, I think Goat or Liar, whichever one has Mouthbreather on it.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Thunderbirds Are Go makes you go at a fair whack for a good CARDIO WORKOUT, I haf found. (So does IgnitiongRemix)

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Basement Jaxx or speed garage, that's what you need.

My Dinner With Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:39 (twenty years ago)

Annihilator - Never, Neverland

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Nick, that would be "Goat." Everyone's favorite.

Gold Teeth II (kenan), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Also, if you don't have Boston's first album, you can't be my friend anymore.

Gold Teeth II (kenan), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:41 (twenty years ago)

(or... um... I guess you could just turn on any classic rock station. that will also suffice.)

Gold Teeth II (kenan), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Here are songs I've been putting on my mp3 player when I go running:

DJ Shadow "The Number Song"
Lightning Bolt "The Two Towers"
Beastie Boys "Gratitude"
Fela Kuti w/ Ginger Baker "Ye Ye De Smell"
Soul Coughing "Super Bon Bon" (the part "move aside and let the man come through" U&K for semi-crowded sidewalks)
Amon Tobin "Get Yr Snack On" (usually during the closing stretch)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 16:38 (twenty years ago)

Although it's still more of a running -> walking -> running -> walking thing, as I still am only like 1/8 of the way into becoming once again not a fatass.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 16:38 (twenty years ago)

I remember "Super Bon Bon" also came with Gran Turismo 2. It was the track of choice.

Gold Teeth II (kenan), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 16:39 (twenty years ago)

ha ha we had a theory that I could only win races against people when that song came on

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 16:57 (twenty years ago)

"harder, better, faster, stronger"

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 17:24 (twenty years ago)

Good suggestions! I think we have a lot of those. I really need to put the Basement Jaxx stuff on there because I listened to it on Nick's and was jealous.
