The current Vanity Fair has a lengthy article on Attorney General John Ashcroft. Full-text of the article here.

I'd excerpt a couple bits, but it would end up being the whole article. Can we finally just get rid of these people in November? Please?

Something I'll be sure to remember in any argument about gay marriage:

"('A prostitute has a sex life,' [Ashcroft] writes. 'But a married person has a love life.')"

For some reason I imagine him singing that to the tune of Prince's "Pop Life."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Wearing purple panties, too?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I should hope. I want entertainment out of my withered husks.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

MY BRANE

Daddino, some things should not be invoked.

There is no difference between the Republican and Democratic parties.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

There is plenty of difference between their purple panties however.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

TS Ashcroft in purple panties vs. Ted Kennedy in purple panties.

Maybe if someone prominent starts baiting him constantly he'll come out in public with this stuff so people will pay attention?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

There is nobody in the United States with the kind of cultural authority necessary to pull it off.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, I think a sizable chunk of the American populace would just conclude that the baiter was just being "Anti-Christian." And any possible damage would be mitigated by yet another "humanizing" visit to Leno or Letterman.

Ted Kennedy doesn't wear panties. Instead, he sported the Pork Pig/Donald Duck look during his Palm Beach party days.

three months pass...
Ashcroft has just announced that an Al Qaeda-linked Somali was planning to blow up a mall in Columbus, OH. Is it a coincidence that Columbus is widely considered to be ground zero of the election? We know Ashcroft has used terror announcements for political purposes before - Tom Ridge told us so. So what to make of this?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 14 June 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll note also that Kerry is scheduled to spend Tuesday and Wednesday of this week campaigning and raising money in Columbus (followed by Cheney on Thursday). Krugman tomorrow agrees that the timing is suspicious, but thinks it has more to do with yesterday's release of the DOJ torture memo. A kossack says that Ashcroft has cried wolf one too many times.
