fdsdf, Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Do I need Quicktime 6 to hear sound?

dfsdfs, Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, you might have to update your software -- the sound is there.

His voice hasn't changed AT ALL!

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

That first freeze actually makes me look like Skafish with glasses.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. Ned is totally Wormser. Is Captain Kangaroo why you fear sideburns so much?

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my. Small Ned!

And happy birthday!

lyra (lyra), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, so we can assume that this footage was filmed AFTER March 2, 1982, right?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 05:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, you are so fucking cute. But you stole my haircut, you bastard.

maypang (maypang), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, so we can assume that this footage was filmed AFTER March 2, 1982, right?

Not much long after, actually -- it might even have been a couple of weeks before. It was filmed early 1982 at some time and then was broadcast in April or May, because it came out during the school year and before I moved to upstate New York, which was late June '82.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, Maypang is a pervert and Sean C a genius. I am waiting for Chris V to get a hold of all this.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Glad to be of service.

maypang (maypang), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

YOUVE SULLIED SESAME STREET!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 06:40 (twenty-one years ago)

But this is about MEEEEEEEEE and my real-life appearance! *whines*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 06:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Exactly, stop ruining Neds thread you lot!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 06:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, okay, I'm sorry.

(But don't they??)

Prude (Prude), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"This is the periscope, Ned."

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That was a cool bit though, really. That "look what's doin' with kids like you" song always gets stuck in my head. Like the damn 3-2-1 Contact theme! argh.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, that was GREAT and Grebt. Again, Happy birthday!

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 07:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Captain Kangaroo: And now it's time for a look at the kind of fun things kids like you do.
(Cue vid cart of rich kids riding horses and poor kids skipping rope.)
Sub Captain: Now kids, this is the missile tube we use to fire the missiles that kill the foreigners. Ned, do you want to try? It's this button right here.

Momus (Momus), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

why bother?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, why can't these ever-so-creative children's shows teach kids how to be homosexuals or put in contact lenses or something useful like that?

Momus (Momus), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

you bother because it's funny, I guess.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Hehehehe.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 03:36 (nineteen years ago)

You have one rating now, Ned. (Someone only gave you four out of five.)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

SO FUCKING AWESOME.

John Justen, UMSOGTH PERMAPRESS CTHULU. (johnjusten), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 05:00 (nineteen years ago)

Why thank you. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

whoa ILX: The Prequel

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

Ned really does have exactly the same voice. ALSO, NED, HOW MUCH fun was it to go on a submarine and eat a GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH?

i've dreamt of rubies! (Mandee), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

It ruled! But you gotta understand -- I'm looking blase at points because I really have heard it all before...and because a couple of years beforehand me and my dad's father went with the sub on a trip from San Diego to the Bay Area when the sub was being sent into dry dock for refitting. It was a great experience. :-)

However, this is the visual evidence we have, and I won't say no. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

God, how adorable this is, Ned!

...and thank you, it brought back memories of my own dad in the Royal Navy -- I went on his sub (I was christened on it!), but I never got an underwater grilled cheese sandwich, or to play with the periscope. Bah.

Surfer_Stone_Rosalita (Surfer_Stone_Rosalita), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

My dad was in the RAF. We never saw a plane.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

I forwarded this link to my wife and she replied "only ned would see that as a 'chance to steal a sub'."

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

HAHAHAHAHA.

Yer wife is one of the best. And I can hear her saying that too!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

OMG CUETEST
i think i laughed the whole way through
also: submarines!

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

If you think that's cute, you should see Dan Perry's video.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, I have a map to an island that no human has been known to have set foot on in thousands of years!!! The only way in is through an underwatter cavern. An underwatter cavern, man! Do you think this is coincidence? Fortuna smiles upon us! Let us commision a crew before the next high tide and make haste toward our Destiny! (We'll need a hot blonde chick and a sketchy guy with a wandering eye. Oh, and grilled cheese sandwitches. Argh!)

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

NED YR DAD IS HAWT

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

I really don't want that e to have anything to do with the a in water. You aint changin' shit, e.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

NED YR DAD IS HAWT

Well, you see, now you know where it comes from. *preens*

Fluffy Bear, I need to see a picture of this 'map' first.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

i think the cuteness factor is also high b/c ned's sister has supercute little girl hair that her mom obv spent some time on - aaaws.

i want dan perry v ned raggett video-off to the death! i mean, the cuet! whichever happens first.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

I vote for 'the cuet' myself, if it is pronounced like 'suet.'

It's like Italy got beat up and rearranged.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

I removed the "X" to disguise the location of the island.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, you clever sod.

Backtracking:

thank you, it brought back memories of my own dad in the Royal Navy

Aw, neat! So I'm not the only one who grew up with the darn things. :-) I think I was on a sub for the first time when I was...five?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

It's like Italy got beat up and rearranged.
-- Ned Raggett (ne...), June 20th, 2006 10:42 AM. (Ned) (link)

Somebody screwed up the MOSE project.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

I'm looking blase at points because I really have heard it all before

Yeah, I grew up on an air base and as much fun as it was to sit in an plane or to visit a radar tower or a missile silo, after awhile it all just became part of the background.

I'm curious about how that clip was produced. Was it shot by Navy photographers and then shipped to CBS/Captain Kangaroo, or did CBS/CK send their own crew to the sub?

Paul Ess (Paul Ess), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

They sent their own crew. Friendly guys.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

v. cool. Your sister kinda got robbed, though. She didn't get to drive the submarine!

Paul Ess (Paul Ess), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

girls cant drive submarines. duh.

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

My sis was very tired at the end of the shooting and barely could contribute any voiceovers. Leaving me, never shy of the sound of my own voice, to step up.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

I think we should do an ILX hollywood squares using the magic of webcams . My only regret is that "Ned Raggett (Age 11)" cannot be a square.

lord pooperton (ex machina), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

But you dared to dream!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

Ned would the center square, obviously.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

I am the Paul Lynde of my time.

(Actually I watched the show obsessively up until around that age, so I would be a perfect candidate.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

Could Hunter, Age 3 be a square?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

But we all want to know, Ned, if you helped Bill Cosby with his Picture Pages. And if the king and queen approved.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Oddly enough, Bill Cosby was indeed on later in that very episode. But that's as close as I got.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

Watching Ned Raggett appear on Captain
Kangaroo
Now don't tell me
I've nothing to do

A Study In Redd Scharlach (Ken L), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

I'M HAVING SO MUCH TROUBLE DECIDING WHO TO PUT ON ILX SQUARES!

lord pooperton (ex machina), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Start a thread, Jon.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

Yea, don't want to be like a Chicagoan...

lord pooperton (ex machina), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

Why are we still without an ilx squares thread? It's been almost 10 minutes.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

lord pooperton (ex machina), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

Awww, little Ned, you sound & look eerily like my little bro who is about the same age. Grown-up Ned should be proud of you.

Abbott (Abbott), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

He's pretty relaxed about it all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

God, what a cool thing to have to show your own kids someday. Thanks for posting it!

Tiki Theater Xymposium (Bent Over at the Arclight), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

My own kids? (I mean, it's entirely possible...)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

That does sound like Ned Reads The Almanac.

Ned, were you being ironic as you narrated that Captain Kangaroo bit?
