Clearly classic, but not as classic as talking to inanimate objects (computers, cars, transformers) when they don't do what you want them to.

do exo-suits count? i clearly remember Daniel talking to his own exo-suit. "trans....form..."

why didn't exo suits break all your bones when they transformed?

talking to yourself = classic and necessary for me so that i can vent when there's no-one else around to vent to

talking WITH yourself = big fat mentalist dud, phew what a loony, my precious etc. (i've never done this at least)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I talk to myself regularly, Mr Pumpkin pointed out that I also make faces, ie, frowning to myself while I mutter incoherently. He finds it both cute and disturbing.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Neither classic nor dud. Just normal.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

sixteen years pass...

If you had to get on with yourself

How would you do?

spruce springclean (darraghmac), Monday, 21 December 2020 21:01 (four years ago)

About as well as I do with anyone else

scampish inquisition (gyac), Monday, 21 December 2020 21:34 (four years ago)

I would get along great but we would both be terrified that we weren’t liked by the other.

brimstead, Monday, 21 December 2020 22:58 (four years ago)

Fucking classic

ffolkes (map), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 03:45 (four years ago)

Wasn’t there another, later thread about this?

Talking to myself is one of the things I miss from before Covid. One of the minor inconveniences of being locked down with four other people is that there's really no way to talk to yourself without someone hearing.

This is a very good point.

On walks when no one's around, I've been better enabled to talk to myself, and in public places too, because there's a mask covering my face and I'm just mouthing the words generally, not enunciating much above a whisper.

i talk to myself all the time and get clowned for it, but i've always had trouble thinking silently, it helps me to say things out loud to nobody.

my mother does it all the time so I definitely got it from her.

i talk to myself from time to time, like talking out bad thoughts or painful memories, i find it helps get things out of my head

also good when writing fiction dialogue -i say stuff out loud to hear how it sounds

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 05:28 (four years ago)

Yes to these last few. Also I feel can remember things better if I hear them as opposed to reading them or just thinking them silently.

Whamagideon Time (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 16:12 (four years ago)

Talking to myself usually makes me happy, unless I'm giving myself a good talking to.
