Which is good cos my manager has excused me from dealing with phone queries. Any tips on getting it back?

Where did you last see it?
(sorry!)

relax and embrace your newfound ability to impersonate Joan Rivers so accurately

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you sure you want it back? Not talking at all is the best thing.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

not being able to scream/shout for help is, eh, mark?

practice makes prefect (only joking)

I'd better get it back before i see Duran Duran. I'm planning on doing lots of screaming.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

cigarettes will help

communicate via a harmonica or kazoo

I actually enjoy laryngitis, not in its full glory, but in the transition period OUT of it, because then my voice is all deep and sexy sounding for an entire day. If only I could force myself into laryngitis then time my dates really well shortly after.

Sadly, I am cursed with a very young sounding voice that breaks easily if I talk for more than half an hour (i.e. think Drive Thru Teen Worker in Simpsons), especially at a loud bar where I have to raise my voice.

(But no, I will not start smoking cigarettes to break into a sexy voice... Rather have a weeny voice but with better breath, clothes that don't smell like shit, and an extra 20 years of life, thank you.)

You could always gargle with peroxide or something like that.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Diluted peroxide, I hope.

DB, I've been there, and the deep and sexy vox only works for the first 5 minutes, before your voice totally disappears. Soft whispering doesn't quite have the same effect.

Throat coat tea works wonders. Also lemon tea with some honey in it. Or whisky.

ten months pass...
I haven't been able to speak for 3 days now! Fuck fuck fuck. I must be ok by Thursday, or I will have big problems. Have never lost my voice for more than a day, at most, before - how long can this last? If I went to see a doctor, would they be able to do something, or would they just say "shut up and wait and hope for the best"?

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

They may be able to help you, depending on what's caused your voice to go; if you've got strep or bronchitis they can give you antibiotics which will seem to work like MAGIC.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, thanks, I'll have to go se one tomorrow if it's not any better! But I don't have any fever or cough or anything, doesn't that make it unlikely that it'd be something that antibiotics would help for?

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. I think you're right about that; have you been over-exerting your voice recently? Drinking warm beverages can be very helpful, especially herbal tea.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(In general, avoid caffeine as that will dehydrate you and likeley exacerbate the condition.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a cold, and then I went out and got drunk and smoked a lot of cigarettes, and woke up like this the next morning, so, well, it's my own damn fault anyway I guess... :-(

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

You're probably dehydrated. Drink a ton of water and herbal tea. (Also, since you do have a cold, it wouldn't hurt to see a doctor as you might be able to shorten its lifespan.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I've gone deafish in my left ear since Friday. Makes phone work a problem.

alix (alix), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

nine years pass...

3 days now after coming back from a festival. Starting to get worried it'll never come back. Meanwhile I sound like I'm stuck between being a middle-aged lady who smokes 40 a day and a rather gruff builder due to the fact i can't use my normal middle range.
