I wish LA were called KILLINGTOWN.

It's like when Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney thought they could just throw a musical production together out of sticks and straw.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Moving from Vermont to NH because they don't like high property taxes is like moving to Clownsylvania because you don't like face paint and seltzer. Crazy damn ski-hippies.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Not "moving" exactly, but you know, re-locating, in whatever sense.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, Point Roberts used the 49th parallel as a paltry excuse to secede from Canada and be part of Washington State! (look at circle on map)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

(granted, that's a more complex history, which may or may not have something to do with the infamous Pig Wars)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't say that website tells me much of the history of the place.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to know the gas prices, myself.

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

There really should be a nicely-written, interesting history of secessions and secession attempts, because pretty much every cool American history class I've taken has brought one or another up as anecdote at some point.

(There probably is one, I'll go check Amazon.)

Here's more history on Point Roberts and why it became the way it is.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Never mind the fact that Alaska has some minor trekking through Canada required if traveling by ground...

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

So does this mean Solvang, CA can secede and finally realise its goal become a REAL Danish city? If so, where will Michael Jackson get his Taco Bell fetish, then?

Meanwhile, 3000 miles away...

History on West Wendover, Nevada vs. Wendover, Utah. Interesting.

But what about the history of Kansas City, Missouri vs. Kansas City, Kansas?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

If this secession is successful, US state puzzlemakers will weep.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"What's this, a hole puncher sliver? oh, it's Killington, New Hampshire!"

FREE CASCADIA / BIOREGIONS OVER BORDERS&!(*@&(*!@!

(i read that on a record insert once. i think it has something to do with Oregon & Washington wanting to become part of Canada.)

Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian, I bet you got that from this link that dave had.

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck New Hampshire -- Killington should just become its own state.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

People from New England, what do you expect

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 04:56 (sixteen years ago)

New Boston was seceded from Mass to NY since it was on a mountain inaccessible to the rest of Mass. Lawlessness prevailed there until NY authorities ere able to claim it for their own.

Today, it's mostly home to a golf course.
