More folly from McClellan too!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Stratergy.

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

What I found offensive was that during McClellan's defense of the ads, never once did he say "with all due respect to the victim's families.." or anything else to that effect. It's as though he felt their complaints were groundless.

maypang (maypang), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"Among the images shown in two of the advertisements are images of firefighters carrying a body, draped in a US flag, from the rubble at Ground Zero, where the World Trade Center once stood."

That alone should be grounds for impeachment.

Doobie Keebler (Charles McCain), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck that cocksucker. Motherfucker. I wouldn't cross the street to take a piss on George Bush.

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Bush in being a total asshole shoxor.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'm President Bush and I approve of this message."

I love it when they say stuff like this at the end of ads.

maypang (maypang), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

My God, I would TOTALLY cross the street to piss on the man! If crotch-kicking was thrown in, I'd RUN across the street!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot fathom why the Bush camp thought it was a good idea to even allude to September 11th, 2001. I mean, to have the single greatest American catastrophe happen ON YOUR WATCH isn't something you really want to highlight, no?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he meant "babies" actually

among other things, it means that someone in the bush re-election campaign has pretty much written off the entire northeastern portion of the country.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Pai Gow Politics.. I think Bush is just striving for another push, rather than a win or loss.

maypang (maypang), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking that Thatcher got re-elected on the strength of the Falklands War and how similar it was, except that that was a victory. What did Bush do before, during or after 9/11 that he wants to be associated with?

get used to seeing this:

hstencil, Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

which is funny, because a general today just announced in the news "Expect more Iraq violence in the future", which oddly juxtaposes (in most Americans' minds) with the fact that Saddam is no longer there.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless Saddam is Bush's new running mate, you mean...

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

will someone ask Bush where OBL is during this election campaign?

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 4 March 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i just hope that the victims and the firefighters and whoever else wants to join in keep at it for the next 8 months. they should never let him forget what a fucking slimeball he is.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 4 March 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

will someone ask Bush where OBL is during this election campaign?

given the new pressure from the White House on finding him, that might be a bad idea.

hstencil, Thursday, 4 March 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

db - we all know Hussein's already got Republican party credentials:

hstencil, Thursday, 4 March 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"Because of that day, we are at war against terror," Karen Hughes, a campaign adviser for President Bush, contended on the ABC program "Good Morning America." "The race for president is now on, and it's important that we look at how the two candidates would approach that war against terror."

...
"..For instance, Bush would exploit it as a reason to employ Halliburton in Iraq. And just would that liberal fuck John Kerry do?"

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 4 March 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

it's almost as if the bush campaign is deliberately sabotaging itself, by pissing off everyone and getting no votes at all ... they're the gangsta "we don't give a shit" administration.

really, what kind of moron would find any of this shit appealing?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 4 March 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

How about this little tidbit...

Oklahoma congressman denies comparing vote against Bush to support for Hitler

Thursday, March 4, 2004
©2004 Associated Press
(03-04) 14:48 PST WASHINGTON (AP) --

Oklahoma Republican Rep. Tom Cole said Thursday he did not intend to equate a vote against President Bush to a vote for Adolf Hitler, but stuck by recent comments that a
Bush loss would be a win for Osama bin Laden.

During a speech to Republicans in Yukon, Okla., last Saturday, the first-term congressman said that "if George Bush loses the election, Osama bin Laden wins the election"
since enemies of the United States would interpret it as a sign of weakness.

Bin Laden is the alleged mastermind of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, that killed nearly 3,000 people.

"What do you think Hitler would have thought if Roosevelt would've lost the election in 1944? He would have thought American resolve was" (weakening), Cole said,
according to a spokeswoman.

After local news reports paraphrased Cole as claiming a vote against Bush is a vote for Hitler, some Democrats demanded he apologize.

"What I am saying is that in a time of war, if our commander in chief is defeated in an election, our adversary will regard that as a triumph," Cole told CNN in an interview
Thursday.

California Rep. Robert Matsui, chairman of the Democrats' House campaign committee, compared Cole's comments to Bush's new campaign commercials that use images
from the terrorist attacks.

"The Republican Party's continuing attempt to politicize the 9/11 tragedy is an insult to the victims' families and our entire nation," Matsui said in a statement.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

maypang McClellan didn't say "with all due respect" because everyone knows that "with all due respect" means "your argument is utter rubbish." Point taken though.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'm President Bush and I approve of this message."
I love it when they say stuff like this at the end of ads.

I think the campaign finance law requires candiate's approval of ads. But Im sure Bush loves the shit out if it irregardless.

I'm just waiting for them to announce that they caught OBL this summer and for his subsequent public execution on election night. Maybe the night before.. gotta have people voting instead of sitting in front of the tv.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Friday, 5 March 2004 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I like that they used "Here comes the bride" as the theme music.

Whether or not the GOP thinks their ad is defensible, the fact that it offended people who were victims of the attack should be reason enough to pull it. "Sorry, we didn't intend for the message to offend anyone, least of all those whose lives were affected by the tragedy." seems like a better response than "Hey, it's relevant. Get over it."
