Attacking Someone: Classic or Dud?

Full title: throwing away any longterm opportunities you had for advancement and the respect of your peers for the short term thrill of landing one on the face of someone who so thoroughly deserved it for all the crap they've inflicted on you in the previous fortnight, and will inflict upon the rest of the world over the coming years.

It was classic last night, but upon waking up to find seventeen text messages basically saying "What have you done?", I'm tempted to switch over to dud.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell the story!

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Usually classic, I'd say.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

you lumped your boss?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently I nearly caused a lighting rig to explode as well.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds kinda classic from here

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, it's better/worse than that Mark- I lumped by future boss.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

*my, not by.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to bury my fist in the face of the large clown who sits opposite me, but being a soft-ass I tend to simmer silently instead, sometimes with tears in my eyes.

Perhaps one day I'll explode in a spitting scratching rage, but I doubt it.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave Stelfox to thread!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, so Dom tried it.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Dud. Pathetically dud, obv.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Hitting old boss = classic.
Hitting new boss = again classic, but incredibly stupid at the same time.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

N. isn't it possible the victim deserved it? They usually don't, obv.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

other than self defence I don't really think hitting anyone is justified

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd kind of imagined all Dom's nights out ending like this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

the shit'll blow over, and you'll still have a good anecdote to tell people, dom. it may still be worth it.

i'm against attacking people, but some people deserve it.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh there are plenty of people who deserve a good smack in the face, selfdefencewise or not

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not as violent as I come across on ILX, seriously! I've been in, like, three fights my entire life! It's just... hmmm.

Anyway, 25 text messages and seven e-mails so far. This one is going to run and run.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, a couple of years ago a good friend of mine drunkenly tried to deck the female Junior Dean of his Oxford college when she, quite reasonably, tried to shut down their MCR party at 1am or so.

She was an ex-Marine, a trained killing machine. He was on crutches with a broken leg, an incoherant cripple. She would've snapped him like a twig.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I was sworn to secrecy, and consequently went and told all my friends.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 March 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

YAY! - yet another post Lancaster University Sabbatical elections drunken tale of woe? I only resigned at the count after winning the election. I fought the urge to hit people. I got shitfaced on 20/20 instead. Yours sounds legendary.

Everyone else - the count at lancaster takes place next too a bar and has the atmosphere of a bearpit; there are always troubles and strife. We should not judge poor Dom until he has told us the facts.

Dom, you must fess up NOW NOW NOW

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 March 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I lost unsurprisingly. Let me explain the 411 when I can actually remember everything that happened.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Telling boss shitty Xmas present does not make up for all the crap you got from him the past year- CLASSIC. Unfortunately, also leads to unemployment :(

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, wait, this thread was about DOM. Sorry! Congratulations on the decking (unless you lose your job, but at least you got your licks in).

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Dom, did you yell "I'M TERRY FUNK, BITCH!"?

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I should have been like "What you're saying Ric... what you're saying, is that I'm just not good enough. Isn't it?..." and then I should have unleashed the fucking fury.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

That could've lead to a trash bag over the head, though, so it might've been best that you didn't.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

No, you should've said "What did the five fingers say to the face?"

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't remember this AT ALL, but apparently on the night I lost my student election by 8 votes I ended up sitting in the corner of the student disco, absolutely shitfaced and buried in conversation with a girl I'd just met who was telling me of her impending nuptials. There are three or four witnesses to me asking "I'm really depressed. I don't suppose you'd consider dumping your fiancee for me? It would make me feel better."

A year or so later she invited me to the wedding reception. I didn't go.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

don't you work w/ nick southall, dom? if he deserved it; he deserved it.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Sabbatical election candidates REPRAZENT!

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX- home of losing election candidates. There's a thread in that I'm sure...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I was social secretary of the Italian Society and president of Offbeat, the indie disco society. Does that count, Dave?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

attacking someone is not only lame, it is an admission of defeat.

gareth (gareth), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the defeat hjad been less admitted than broadcast to the world before the hitting, Gareth.

Mark - It is a fine thing you did, but you need to have been prepared to put your life on hold for a year and place your future in the hands of your peers...

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Not so much an admission, Gareth, as a... you know how they write Dilbert strips? Set up, joke, follow-up to the joke? I was the third panel.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 March 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

the punchline, in so many words.

hstencil, Friday, 5 March 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

did you get any laughs¿

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 6 March 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

or did you meet the same fate as so many dilbert strips before you¿

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 6 March 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still in shock that so many IlXor's think it's okay to solve problems with GBH ???????????????????????

Ste (Fuzzy), Saturday, 6 March 2004 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I much prefer the Exploited, personally.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 6 March 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, dumb joke. Dom...I hope the fallout from your moment of rage isn't irreparable (sp?).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 6 March 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay I'm a little drunk. LFO might sort me out.

Dom, please tell us the full story. It's been a lucky night that I walked all the way from the clubs to home and I never got any hassle from drunken idiots.

Ste (Fuzzy), Saturday, 6 March 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

wasnt referring to your situation in particular Dom, not even saying the guy didn't deserve it. just as a good general rule its a dud, and its a weird compliment to the person being attacked that you consider them worthy of such attention, if you see what i mean. i dont want to be involved in the validation of such a persons life. an impassive face is the most i would want to give to such a person

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 6 March 2004 07:18 (twenty-one years ago)

wrestling is more classic, but a good old punch is good too, asuming both the wrestlee/punchee and wrestler/puncher are both the same gender, and preferably male (or female depending on the way your looking at it)

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 6 March 2004 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

and preferably not just acquaintances or strangers

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 6 March 2004 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I am still alive.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 6 March 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

This old guy was in the shop to-day, and he told us what had happened to him the other day. He had been withdrawing money from the ca$h machine when 2 chavs attempted to rob him. He has had a stroke in the past, and appears to be drunk all the time as a result of this (he is a regular customer) presumably the piece of shit scumbag chavs figured geriatric drunk=easy mark. He is an ex-soldier though, and put the head on one of them, and beat the other one down with his walking stick. the police turned up in minutes, and arrested the chavs, and asked the old guy if he wanted to press charges against them (he didn't) Classic in this case, though this really is "defending yourself" not "attacking someone". I find it difficult to imagine any other instance where it would be anything other than DUD. If you work for a scumbag, look for another job (I did).

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 6 March 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Dom, I thought about hitting my boss yesterday, as I do most days. Thanks for letting me live this possibility through you.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 6 March 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

We solve our problems with GHB

Sym (shmuel), Saturday, 6 March 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
surely enough time has passed that the truth behind this canbe told?

jeff k,, Monday, 26 December 2005 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

do you have a collection of bookmarks to threads where ilxors refused to tell the whole story?

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Monday, 26 December 2005 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

he's working his way back to the jfk thread
