A question about the mathamatical impossibility of pepparami

I just looked on teh back of my Pepparami, and it says that its "108% Pork".

WTF? How can it be more than 100%? By definition, that is the most anything can be, surely? DOes anyone know why this happens?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 5 March 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I think everyone's still trying to figure out what the hell Pepparami is.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 5 March 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

well, someone on the Apprentice yesterday said they were giving one hundred and fifty thousand per cent effort, so 108% sorta seems modest.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 5 March 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i've got a new idea for a tattoo

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 5 March 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

but you can't have more than 100%, Lawrence! Coz, I mean, 100%, that's everything!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 5 March 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

108% is everything AND MORE

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 5 March 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

A product like PepparamiĀ® defies the laws of mathematics, science and reason. It's Porkramiriffic.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It could mean genetically modified pork. Super-pork if you will, y'know, flying pigs, etc.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

This was a question on Watchdog the other night so I know the answer! They have to put the percentage as meat *before* it's cured. When it's curing, it shrinks, so the original amount of meat in a Pepperami is 108% of the size of what you buy.

Pepperami is my guilty secret.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Not any more it's not.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

(Peperami)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

This is just sad though

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Cabbage to thread!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone chew the plastic wrapper it comes in after they've eaten it?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought I was the only one who did that.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

The wrappers smell yummy!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

It's tasty, if a little gross. Just like Peperami itself really.

x-post - Johnny - try it! Put it in your mouth and start sucking. Maybe chew a bit. Tease those lovely meaty juices onto your tongue.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Peperami factories are miraculous places! They're where DEAD PIGS GO TO BE CURED!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Gracious! What oiks we peasants be. I did this regularly when my mum bought Peperami for school lunches. What a supremely filthy habit.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Wrapper's in the bin now. I'm not rooting past half a dozen post-it-notes just to taste the pork juice.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

You would if you were 4 real.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark - take it to the worst joke thread, pleeeeaze!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

try licking the post-it glue too!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

The wrapper = k-num. The sossidge = s'ok.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

You've not lived until you've rooted around in the bin for something and eaten it.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 March 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Peperami factories are miraculous places! They're where DEAD PIGS GO TO BE CURED!
-- MarkH (mark_e_heste...), March 5th, 2004.

Somehow more disturbing if original (brilliant) post is slightly altered:

Peperami factories are miraculous places! They're where SICKPIGS GO TO BE CURED!

mad props to MarkH

Skottie, Friday, 5 March 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not the only one who chews the wrappers, THANK YOU GOD

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this the sekrit truth of Ilx - or is this a more common habit than we dared hope?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

This was a question on Watchdog the other night so I know the answer! They have to put the percentage as meat *before* it's cured. When it's curing, it shrinks, so the original amount of meat in a Pepperami is 108% of the size of what you buy

By this logic, a flaccid penis is 108% boner.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely flaccid penis' have no boner in at all?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the way Boyler, who refuses to eat a burger under (almost) any circumstances, has no problem with Pepperami (or for that matter the wrapper). I really don't want to know what's in one of them.

I really want one now, though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I much prefer pork juices to the peperami itself. That's just natural juices. Anyway, Pig's don't have Mad Cow disease yet do they?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely if they did it would be Mad Swine Disease?

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Swine Fever! Coming to your cinema screens soon!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

You utter fruitloops. Licking and sucking on the wrapper?! URRRGH. That's GROSS. Next thing you'll be telling me that you like Pepperami flavoured mini cheddars* so much that you bath in them, urrrgh.

*surely even MORE impossible by maths, no?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Not just licking and sucking, Starry, also CHEWING!

Joooooiiiiiiinnnnn usssssssss

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 5 March 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I suck.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

On the wrapper, I mean. And I chew.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah MAAAAAAAAAAAAN.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Its pepperoni, so it works. You are thinking about it too hard. Just let it be what it is. Math and sausage dont mix, as you are learning the hard way.

Spinktor au de toilette (El Spinktor), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The packaging is 8% pork.

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Obviously.

Spinktor! (El Spinktor), Friday, 5 March 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

eight months pass...
I guess I never clicked back on this thread because there aren't 500 posts of me ranting about the disturbing wrongness of a walking Claymation erection.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 November 2004 14:09 (twenty years ago)

i hate that ad(vert).

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 18 November 2004 14:16 (twenty years ago)

"It's a bit of an animal" is classic though.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Thursday, 18 November 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Remember the mediocre films thread? Well, if we were to have a mediocre advert hread, the Peperami advert would be my number one choice.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 18 November 2004 15:05 (twenty years ago)

Surely it's a millions times better than those "shake your Tic-Tacs" ones

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 18 November 2004 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Twas the pink room, not the stink room.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Thursday, 18 November 2004 15:49 (twenty years ago)

I just had a Spicy Peperami, and they're listed as 98% pork! Spicy ones are less porky! Boo!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:52 (twenty years ago)

I still can't believe they made a pepperami videogame.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

is this pepperami you speak of the equivalent of a Slim Jim?

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 19 November 2004 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Slim Jim? huh?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 19 November 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone chew the plastic wrapper it comes in after they've eaten it?

-- Matt DC

You are all totally fucking sick. Get out of my house!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 19 November 2004 15:43 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...
are Pepperamis still 108% pork? We don't appear to have got to the bottom of this?

Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

they most certainly did get to the bottom of this, it was posted twice even.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 18 April 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

They are soooo much better than Slim Jims. Or Big Beef Chevys or whatever.
