ryan adams - gold (not as good as heartbreaker but what could be?); Lou Reed - Berlin; Trinkets (brisbane post-rock instrumental band); lots of puccini and callas and some tango, as well as mp3s - esp thalia zedek.

Geoff, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm on a "Teenage Riot" diet as well - just got "DdN" back from a mate who had it since April... This mate lent me "Bodily Functions" by Herbert, and I don't plan to give it back until February 2002...

I just found one of my all time favourite songs! I knew it was by Leonard Cohen but that's all so I've been downloading every song by him I can find. I finally got it! It's called "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye" and it is BEAUTIFUL! If you are not familiar with it then I urge you to acquire it. You'll find it on Morpheus.

I just discovered Berlin by Lou Reed a couple of weeks ago. It's good, isn't it.

Oh, loads and loads as always but my top 5 so far this month...

1. Various -Flux Trax 2- Techno from 91-96.
2. Nu Yorican soul, the Masters at work go latin<3>3.Since I had a track in the ILM listening chamber, I've relistened to Jeff Beck's You had it coming.
4. Bjork - Vespertine.
5. Sunhouse - Crazy on the weekend, which despite being described elsewhere as the most boring band ever, is the CD I've listened to most over the past couple of months.

Of the five I'd say only Sunshouse reflects the Autumnal feel, it would work well as a companion piece to Nick Drake's Northern Sky.

Billy Dods, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

sally tims and bran van 3000

Mr Noodles, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've been listening a great deal to Arthur by the Kinks for the last week. It's charming! Also, Therion, Helloween, and Vivaldi.

In choir we're starting to sing Mozart's Requiem. I'd love to get a recording of it because it's so beautiful.

Maria, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Lou Reed - Transformer; Kylie - Fever; I dusted off the S*M*A*S*H album after finding that article Taylor Parkes did about them just to remember how ridiculous they were; and a Herbie Hancock compilation I burned myself.

Mascara, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have been listening to Millionaire. It is the Belgian Brainiac: 'ard core funk punk grinding you right *there*. I WUVWUVWUV IT. I have also discovered that dEUS has made a new single. Am I excited? AM I FUCK! It's yummilicious.
My musickal mood changes faster than a light bulb.

I R thinking this thread belongs on ILM

critical Fatnick, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh who goes there any more, that place is strictly 4 squares.

duane, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah! Fatnick not true...Music is a part of everything! And plus I don't post much to ILM, so I asked it here. It's allowed.

james, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I R thinking that is fair enough.

less critical Fatnick, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Various things on Kompakt - all mindblowing, and ta muchly to Andy for the heads-up. Also: Bubba Sparx, Jay-Z, Cannibal Ox. Individual songs of the month are Latrelle's "Dirty Girl", Blu Cantrell's "Waste My Time", Kylie's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head", Gerling's "Dust Me Selecta" and J Lo's "I'm Real (Murder Mix)", the final choice being one I'm determined to use as the theme song for some aspect of my life, though I'm not sure which.

Tim, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Pulp album lots, the Jay-Z album a little, a fair bit of Jamaican music of various stripes, bunches of FilePile-derived MP3s, So Solid Crew, Lightning Bolt, The Strokes, Hal Wilner, old MP3s in my attempt to finish 1000, John Fahey, Les Rallizes Denudes, Acid Mothers Temple, Charlemagne Palestine's "Strumming Music". Almost no pop, for once.

Tom, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Things we lost in the fire" by Low. That's a fantastic autumn album. I have to sweep the fallen leaves out of my room after every listen. Probably my contender for album of the year so far.

Whilst driving to Norfolk last week I played David Byrne and Brian Eno's "My life in the bush of ghosts". I'd forgotten how groundbreaking that album was. I suppose it's pretty much par for the course nowadays to incorporate vocal samples and tribal rhythms, but for 1981 it was very innovative, and still manages to sound so fresh.

Live, I have mostly been listening to French Kicks, Superchunk, Beachbuggy and.... Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

Trevor, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Today, I am listening to Modest Mouse's "the moon and antartica"...and liking it for the first time, must be the rain that hasn't stop falling today.

james, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In the most recent HMV sale I bought some 'modern' classical albs on the excellent Montaigne label -

'La Legende D'eer' - Xeanakis

'La Lontananza Nostalgica Utopica Futura' - Luigi Nono

'Routine Investigations' - Morton Feldman.

Also: 1987-89 by Suzanne Langille/Loren Mazzacane Connors (esp. their version of Lonnie Johnson's 'Haunted House'), 'Days Have Gone By' by John Fahey (esp. 'The Portland Cement Factory at Monolith, California'), 'Tramps, Traitors and Little Devils' - A Drag City Supersession (esp. 'Charley's Girl'), 'Unheimlich Schon' by Luc Ferrari, 'Two Brothers' by The Boxhead Ensemble. I cheer up whenever I hear the Kylie single on the radio. And am eagerly awaiting the new Aphex and R. Quine Velvet Underground tapes.

Andrew L, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This weekend, it was Beulah, Tammi Terrell, the Motors and some Northern Soul.

Madchen, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Survivor'. Everyone here seems to think 'Writing's on the Wall' is better, let me be the first to disagree. I even like the gospel thing at the end, and "Apple Pie" as well!

dave q, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pulp - We Love Life, Jay-Z - the Blueprint, Big Star (inspired by ILM shocker!), Air, St. Etienne, Felix Da Housecat, yet even more Daft Punke, Sinatra.

We Love Life is really suggestive of autumn to me (as is the latest Air, which might have been a better release time). Most of the stuff has an air of melancholy to it without having major chord ANGST and DESPAIR. Which is kind of what I think of when I think of autumn.

Nicole, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Deadly Snakes and our jukebox.

Samantha, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I went off the Jay-Z right after I bought it, lent it to someone at work and now I can't be bothered to listen to it anymore. I've been listening to the new Le Tigre, Stereo Total, a French pop CD I got talked into buying (Get Easy) and I dug out my copy of New Order's Ceremony after someone mentioned it on another thread. Cut way back on purchases but I think it's just a black mood that will pass.

Lesley Higgins, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Something Else by The Kinks Entire Buzzcocks catalog Electric Company - Greatest Hits Scritti Politti - Songs To Remember

Dan, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I R thinking buzzcocks catalog is good, even new stuff!

Harmony in my Fatnick, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

St. Etienne's Tiger Bay, New Order's Substance, All Saints' Saints and Sinners, Jay-Z's Blueprint, Ludacris's "Area Codes".

Ally, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I also think that the new Beulah album is good. Today, I am listening to Six Finger Satellite.

james, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm rocking out to Led Zeppelin, moping around to a Sandy Denny anthology (very Autumnal), bouncing up and down to Toots and the Maytals, and staring out the window to a Steve Reich box set.

Johnathan, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
