Donald & Mickey

The other night I was touched to hear reminiscences about the 1970s comic featuring the furry and feathered cartoon animals.

I wonder how many posters can recall anything about it.

Those who can't, and indeed those who can: pleae post on the thread a picture of the duck and / or the mouse.

Though I am pleased at the way it turned out, I wonder how the duck's agent managed to negotiate top billing.

On closer inspection of the cover above, I see that in fact he didn't.

The punctum in this picture: the price tag of 7p.

Any chance of turning this into a T/S: Floyd Gottfredson vs Cark Barks?

I was reminiscing about this the other day as well.

I will pay actual money to anyone who posts a link of the picture that was captioned "Ho ho, no prizes for guessing who has filched some of Daisy's pie"

(it was Donald, in case you are wondering. He is a Duck)

It was something of a shock to discover that a lot of the D&M characters never actually appeared in cartoons.

I much prefer Buggs & Daffy.

I've thought of starting a Carl Barks thread for a while now - I think his stories are pretty much the best thing ever to come out of Disney.

The website from which Jerry's cover (scarily evocative...I can almost taste the pear drops from Mr Williams' newsagents on the corner of Mill Lane and Rullerton Road) is taken mentions that Donald & Mickey started in October 1972, switching to Mickey & Donald three years later to "prepare us all for Mickey's own comic Mickey Mouse". Donald Duck had an A5 spin-off of his own too from late '75, but this was discontinued after 18 issues and merged with the thriving Mickey Mouse to become... Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck! No wonder I was a confused kid. I was reading Look In by then.

All published by IPC Magazines! Jerry has lived (and is again living) the dream.

Look-In, sorry. Which ran for 23 years!

Mickey's carefree childhood, before he was corrupted by celebrity.
