My cat is called Kuro because he's black. Sumire belongs to ME! Grrr!

You can share Toraneko though, if you want.

Chen Kenichi.

Anthony, are you referring to Banana Yoshimoto? Have you read her books? I am not too keen on (her) mystical style.

Actually....I was thinking either tanoshii (fun, funny) or Takashi, after the Superflat artist.. But these answers are all very cool...

Adam Bruneau, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Or what about KANEEEEEEEDDDDDAAAAAAHHH. But you always have to pronounce it Akira style. ;) I like Bikka Makka.

Omar, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes Helen
She is one of my favorite artists because everythign she writes seem to be a phantamsa. An excerise in finding boundries, you are not sure if it is real or not , and it is so beutiful it doesnt matter.

keiko

Ed, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maroneko. This is what I would like to name a cat -- it seemed wrong to rename the cat I adopted although I suspect his previous owner named him after a Radiohead album. Which is just wrong, obviously.

Nicole, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Isn't Sumire the name of the girl who disappears in 'Sputnik Sweetheart'? You don't want your cat to run off, but sometimes they do anyway.

Lesley Higgins, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I suspect his previous owner named him after a Radiohead album

Your cat was named "The Bends"?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Congratulations to mr. smythe for guessing this...I'd rather he be named after Pablo Escobar.

My dog is called Oeki, but I address him with different titles depending on prevailing mood, what I find funny at the time. After reading a book about North-West Native American tribes, I now refer to him as 'Raven, Who Swallowed The Sun'.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 25 August 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

If it's going to grow up to be a big Cheshire puss, how about Nekobasu (means "cat bus") from "Totoro"?

As far as other literal names in Japanese, you could call it Kawaii (cute) or Ko-neko (kitten).

Melinda Mess-injure, Monday, 25 August 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I loved that bus! Totoro would be a great name for a cat as well, but he should be fat and big-mouthed then.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 25 August 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bukkake! Come here!"

Leee (Leee), Monday, 25 August 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Domo Ari Gato (combination Japanese & Spanish)

Sc, Monday, 25 August 2003 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

You could name it Sayama, Misawa or Kanemoto, after the first three men to wrestle as Tiger Mask. (There is a "4th Generation" Tiger Mask currently wrestling today, real identity unknown.)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Maneki Neko would be a good name for a cat:

Sumire means Violet, I got that from a book. I think Sumire is a nice name.

My friend's daughter is named Sumire.

And god, Chin Chin? Man, I sucked at jokes (and still do). I also now love Banana Y despite my previous mention of hating her. Taste evolves, I guess, just like nicknames. hah

G00blar, Monday, 12 May 2008 12:36 (seventeen years ago)

three weeks pass...

I just adopted a cat from a friend. Her name is Ms. Me0wgi.

I'm thinking of changing it.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 14:06 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not a huge fan of the "joke" (teh schef lol would disagree with me completely) and it's too many goddamn syllables

her previous owner, my friend, has also had cats named "s0ggy b0x" and "ch1cks are like v0ltron -- the more you hook up the better it gets"... known more commonly as just "v0ltron"

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 14:15 (seventeen years ago)

The naming of a cat or dog only depends on one thing: are you going to yell that name out in the garden when you want it to come home to eat? If your neighbours can hear you, then it should be something funny, like, oh, a cat named "FIRE!" or a dog called "Bitch!"

StanM, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

our white cat is named shizuka, which means "quiet." she isn't.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 14:35 (seventeen years ago)

Must admit that I toyed with calling Bob "Chairman Meow" and also "Ferenc Pusscat" but Em wasn't up for it.
