mysteries of your world

The other day I was waiting for a curry at a curry house, and some dude walked in and - slightly drunkenly i think - told the manager, "hi, you've always been a kind man, would you be so kind as to give me pilau rice, with madras sauce on it"

the manager agreed, and then, moments later he said "and i have some good news for you", but the manager was obviously busy, and said "just a minute" and walked into the kitchen, and then presented me with my curry afterwards. I wanted to stick around and find out what that man's good news was!

Did he get a promotion?
Was he about to pay this man extra for being so kind?
Was he being sarcastic and was actually about to rob the place?
Was he an evangelist?

What are the mysteries of your world?

Why breasts are so fascinating.

I once received a postcard from Orléans in France, from a certain Stephen, who apologised for not getting in touch with me before he left and suggested we meet up when he returned. I never heard from him again, and I have never been able to work out who "Stephen" is. Years later, it's still bothering me.

When I was in high school, I met a somewhat older girl on a train station. She said "Hi Tuomas!" and began to talk to me. She seemed to know things about me: where I went to school, about my mom etc. I had no idea who she was, but I pretended to know her so it wouldn't be too embarrassing. After a while we departed, and I never got to know who she was.

Also, when I was a kid, me and my parents were at a wedding party. I was running around with my cousin, when we come across a telephone. We tried to phone different numbers, just for fun. Then we dialed my home number. Even though my whole family was there, the line was busy! Who was talking to our phone?

A few years back I was at the Irish Open, golf raving, and I noticed I had a missed call on my mobile. Anyway this was odd cos my phone didn't ring or at least I didn't hear it. Later on I had 2 more from the same number, so I rang it when I got home and the guy said "I keep getting missed calls from you!!". I thought he was some prankster and was a bit incredulous I guess and then we agreed that it was odd and were talking about what could have happened. Fuck knows really. So he says "where do you live" and I tell him and he's like "oh do you know Ronan Fit*gerald???".

Turns out he was a guy I knew from school, but he didn't have my number in his phone, nor I his. WEIRD.

Last week I saw five elderly Chinese women playing hackey-sack in the Lake Merritt BART station. It was a homemade sack. They got a hack while I was watching.

In the local paper, there has been an ad in the small ads section for the same piano for years. I sometimes wonder if I should phone the number, but usually convince myself that some Ring type horror will befall me if I do.

Once at work, my friend neef who does the MIS/hardware stuff was adding new video cards to all our machines. As he opened my deskmate's machine we all noticed a muffin neatly perched atop the hard drive.

No one ever worked out who put it there.

A couple of summer ago once I saw a very old lady standing at a corner dressed as a kid of the 80's. Pink fluo kids cycling shorts that were supposed to be tight but not on her since she was skinny like a coat hanger: she had the perfect shape to sport her *mint* condition new kids on the block t-shirt without making a single fold in it! I looked both sides of the street as far as I could expecting to see a gang of art students with a camera, but no. Maybe it was one of those "hidden camera" shows. Or the "spirit of our times" making a point about our ephemeral pop culture.

Er, the "good news" was: Jesus died for your sins. Count on it.
