roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Out the door with them.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic if I'm one of them! sounds like a boss deal to me!

(kidding. Kill them.)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic because if you kill them, no one will miss them at work and you'll have a good head start

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Shall do. That's two extra bedrooms, who's moving in?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

look if you kill my roommate I'll kill yours, whaddya say?

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Deal. Maybe I'll poison their food. That is to say *my* food.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

why do you have to ask? JUST KILL THEM THE JUDGE WILL BE LENIENT.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

roxy, your roomies can't blackmail you for any reason, right? do they have guns?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Just to be absolutely clear, my vote is an emphatic "dud." But with a kind of "classic" aftertaste.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

do they listen to bad music?

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

But with a kind of "classic" aftertaste.

Like saccharine?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

uuuuuur, so are they great sex partner?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

partners, even?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

One listens to DeeLite, Ween, Tori Amos, the Bananas, and Slint in heavy rotation. The other is more of a Joy Division/New Order/Wire/Le Shok/Mountain Goats.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Roxy lives with Nickalicious and John D? Who knew they could be such layabouts!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

And re: sex partners, I've only slept with one of them (Slint one), and it was positive.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Positive? That's dangerous, you know.

So, you'll have (mostly) great music after you kill them. that settles it.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

And the crap stuff you can sell on eBay.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, the Slint one bears more than a passing resemblance to John D! It's been passed about in hushed tones at parties. Well, not really, but a few people have pointed it out.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Now to complicate matters: what if one is your husband, and he's the one that listens to DeeeLite? This obv. brings about a whole new set of problems.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the story being painted here slowly but surely.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait til Joy Division/Wire wakes up and looks at ILM -- then the story might fill in a bit quicker.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:50 (twenty-one years ago)

"hmmm, 'conor oberst beaten to death with his own shoes'... again.... *back to bed*"

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Does this person lurk or post?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! Oops...ILE. Eh. Got confused from all the music talk.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Lurk.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, time will tell.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Eh, perhaps I subconsciously made the thread for the purpose of them seeing it and getting of their lazy, boney asses and getting gainfully employed, or at least sweeping the kitchen.

Or *not* so sunconsciously.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Beat them both awake with a broom as a reminder. Should they in fact be in bed together, beat them harder.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

donut bitch: interesting you should bring up guns. The DeeeLite one owns approximately 19 of them, including four really creepy civil war-era rifles and some grenades and things. The Joy Division/Wire is meek as a kitten and only owns a couple of things, none of them weapons.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Does this answer the "busy" question for them, then?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I can chalk that up to marathon Taco Bell runs and Metroid. The Joy Division/Wire is a musician, too.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

husband
sex partner (at least at one time)
owns several guns
listens to Deee-lite and Slint
eats lots of Taco Bell
plays Metroid.

This sounds like one really fucked up personal ad. I apologize in advance for saying that, roxy.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:02 (twenty-one years ago)

That's an insanely accurate and poignant image of the man I love.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, but love is nice, so hey.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Love is all fine and dandy, but he needs a job nonetheless.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

may we ask how you support two full grown human beings, roxy? (as in job? or will that be giving too much away?)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

but he needs a job nonetheless

A wise sentiment.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Roxy lives with Nickalicious and John D? Who knew they could be such layabouts!

*raises hand*

(j/k etc)

This thread was my life in 2001, except replace "Deee-Lite" with "Aphex Twin" and "Joy Division" with "Ricky Martin".

Allyzay, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, it's not giving too much away. I work at a women's clinic and get paid pretty well there. One of the guys gets help from his mom now and then (he's just a young thing), but I still pay the mortgage payment/bills, buy groceries, &c.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Four little letters for you my man..P..I...M...P..

winterland, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 08:09 (twenty-one years ago)

50 hrs a week? i wish! i work 63 hours a week. but no roommates to slay. i need some. send'em over. ;-)

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Note the +!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry! I suddenly realized the plus (which is of course negative :-) )

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

But with a kind of "classic" aftertaste.

I'm forgainst it.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps Mr Slint could pay you with sex?

mei (mei), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Precisely, Ned. I am forgainst it. I love them both dearly and don't want either of them to move out, but they both need a kick in trouser seat.

xpost mei - he's run up a tab.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

omg, kick him out and I'm moving in, on the real.

ryebot, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

so, roxy, was the linear divulging of the story all along this thread intentional, or would you have preferred to type the full story all in one big long essay at the top of the thread?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

(not asking to be bitchy, just honestly curious)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to place an ad for my roommate:

Waitress/"actress"
wears short skirts, sans underwear
expert on all MTV shows
favorite artists: Ryan Adams and the Postal Service
never drinks, but is always drunk (somewhat curious)
currently "dating" five guys

anyone want to take her off my hands? = [

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd say classic. Are they actually busy? Obviously you're agreeing to letting them be layabouts, since you're willing to work hard and pay their bills, but better they should actaully be busy than just, you know, stoned. Otherwise why would you bother?

Posting to a message board to whine about your roommates rather than talking to them directly? Gonna go with "Dud" on that one.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

haha Kate's "Question about couch etiquette" to thread!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

1. They're not busy. That's kind of the whole point.
2. I have talked to them about it. Oh, and sorry I didn't notice that whining about things that bug you is subject matter non grata here. Can't imagine why that would be. COME ON! That's what you DO with a msg. board for chrissakes!
3. I have agreed to take care of them temporarily, and god, it's just respect for the person who's working her ass off so that you can eat not to act all woe is me when you're basically a freeloader.

re: the slow divulgence of the storyline -- I didn't tell the story at first cause I figured the thread would just slip down the line mostly unnoticed like all my other threads have so far. then when everyone posted questions/comments, i filled in the blanks.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

re: the slow divulgence of the storyline -- I didn't tell the story at first cause I figured the thread would just slip down the line mostly unnoticed like all my other threads have so far. then when everyone posted questions/comments, i filled in the blanks.

Well, it worked. (and probably just this once, and never again)

Now what?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Been there - and it irritated the hell out of me after awhile. Yeah, okay, so you said sure, I can handle it for a little while, but after not that long of awhile, I felt more than a little taken advantage of - especially since said roommate did jack shit during the day that didn't involve eating, sleeping, playing video games and scratching his ass.

I feel your pain, chica.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you know, it takes two people to freeload.

Unless I missed something, you haven't told us what they claim they're busy with.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

bill stevens / dean! to thread like fucking lightning.

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I know exactly how you feel except in my situation it is with someone who chooses to have sporadic employment and then thinks that it is ok to sleep in our living room for a few months.

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, they're busy with their fucking dreams and friends and shit.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

They aren't "artists" are they?

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

One is a potter, the other a musician. And they're both, shock horror, actually talented.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Talent means nothing if it doesn't pay the bills. Talent and 75p will get you a cup of coffee. Throw the bastards out, married to you or not. Or and not as the case may be.

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, mine is a "screenwriter" / "filmmaker".

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Hang on, are they actually working a lot on their pottery/music though, at least *trying* to make some money? That counts as busy if you ask me.

I say this as someone who has a partner living with me who is barely able to pay me rent, because he isnt "working" technically, but in actual fact he's working a longer week than me, just unpaid (the job will eventually pay off big time, just not yet - so I'm prepared to support him). You makes yr decisions, in such cases. If you dont support what they're trying to do, turf 'em. Love needs to be tuff sometimes!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost: Made any good films lately?

the musician does nothing, the potter actually does work on his craft some, and he's my bedmate as well, so i'm obviously partial to him, more accepting, and more supportive. mainly it's the musician fellow who gets under my skin, and they're both less than grateful at times.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

He always says that he's writing, but you know ... He actually convinced a producer friend of ours to go way out of her way to help him make his film for nothing ... but he panicked and bowed out towards the end of preproduction.

And still, in my living room ...

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 11 March 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah it certainly sucks balls if they dont at least compensate by helping 'round the house. I make my other half do housework *evil grin*.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 March 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

He compensates by leaving Del Taco everywhere.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 11 March 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

[aside] d'you know, I've absolutely no idea wtf "the elephant in the room" even means. I feel stupid.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 March 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Usually it means the big issue that no one is talking about. There's an elephant in the room, but you can't talk about that, so you talk about other stuff.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 11 March 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

But yeah, nice guy, talent ... etc.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought this thread was going to be about someone's wiener.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread is about whiners, not wieners.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

I am v. temporarily living with one of these guys again, haw.

This is my first ILE thread!
