Have any of you ever had an angiogram?

I'm having my head CT scan on Thursday (to see if I need to have brane surgery) and they're also doing an angiogram. I'm generally not too worried about them shoving a catheter into my femoral artery or whatever artery in my arm they may use but I'm a little concerned about how I'll feel afterwards. Sorry for being such a pussy.

my uncle has had several angiograms. I don't remember hearing fun things about them, but it really depends on why you are being requested one.

Yeah you're a big huge pussy, Bryan. WTF! Dude I don't know nothing about this sort of thing but I'm sure it's not so horrible, probably just uncomfortable. You'll do ok! Keep me updated...

I had something similar (but simpler) to this for a CT when I had appendicitis a few weeks ago -- the catheter was in my arm, and it had been there from the night before when they started giving me anti-cramping drugs. The contrast material went in through the catheter and through, well, the servent's entrance. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever been through -- other then the feeling that THERE'S NO WAY THEY'RE GONNA GET MORE FLUID IN ME AAH I'M GONNA POP!!!, the only other problems were an unpleasant taste in my mouth and slight visual disturbances during the procedure, and really intense but short-lived itching afterwards. My father has had a full-fledged angiogram recently, and it's a bit less pleasant than this, but not much.

Yum barium enemas. It must be nasty, but heck, it's the best way of seeing what's going on inside. The consultants I work for do these and various other radiological stuff. I guess something like ultrasound is less invasive, but wouldn't be as effective for the purpose required.

B. Sure, you'll be fine! Keep us updated please.

enema? surely the barium meal is taken orally unless your doctor is a perv?

I've had a CT scan before which was scary & a bit claustrophobic, but over in a few minutes. I can't help you with the other though. I hope all goes well. Pls let me know how you get on! *hugs*

'twas more than just barium in there, and they had a lot of intestine to look at = enema.

Woo radioactive rectal fun.

Hi Bryan,
I have never had an angiogram but know, that it is for you that these tests are being being done. This will give the specialists the info they need to help you as best they can. I hope all goes well for you.

good luck bryan! If you get nervous just comically pretend the doctor is saying 'orgasm' instead of 'angiogram.'

I hope it goes well, Bryan! Email me if you want to talk about it or anything.

Thanks everyone. I'm kinda looking forward to this now as I'm going to pretend that it's step 1 in fulfilment of my lifelong dream of being made into a cyborg.

That's a grand dream! Anyway, hope today goes very well for ya.

A good attitude, Bryan, especially considering that my first words to my wife after the procedure were "I now know what it is like to be raped by robots."

Spole to my father, by the way -- he says there was less bizarre discomfort and more good old fashioned pain in his procedure than in mine, which for a person like me would make the angiogram preferable.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Well that was kind of a bust. The CT scan machines are so good now that a full angiogram with the catheter in the leg was unnecessary. The just put in an IV, put me into the machine, pumped me full of iodine contrast dye (which actually felt kinda neat), took the scans and I was done. I feel just fine. No sedation needed. Now I'll just have to wait and see if I need the surgery. I kinda hope I do as I feel a little ripped off from this experience!

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Thursday, 11 March 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

At least it went off pretty quickly and painlessly!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 11 March 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It was actually kinda fun as I like getting needles.
